Our Supegior Court Clerk.
The hardest worked official
around the cpurt houseis Mr.
AJ. ,Herriq‘gton, our popular,
obliging and ' éfficient Clerk of
the Superior, Court- You can
always find, him in his office
during office hours—as busy as.
a bee, Judge Parker made the
assertien some.time avo, that he
kept the best, and the neatest set
of books of any ether clerk on his
gircuit. :
! And, agnin,” Mr. Herrington
knows law about as well as most
of the lawyers who.practice at
this bar. He keeps up with all
the latest laws, consequently he
18 a well posted man. |
He was born and reared in this
section, and taught school for
twelve years, pryor to being elec- ‘
ted clerk of the Superior Court..
He has been clerk ever sinc2 the
Formation of the county.
. He started as a country school
teacher, and within five years
afterwards he received a Teach
ers Life Certificate, This is as
high as a teacher can go. There
are many teachers in the state
to'day, who are holding high and
lucrative positions in the school
room, who cannot produce. a
teachers life certificate. 3
Mr. Herrington was ambitious
and wanted to clime, and did
clime to the pinnacle in this pro
fession.
There are now many teachers
in this county who made their
grades under him, He was a
most excellent instructor and
was very zealous in his school
work.
Every spare moment he now
has he devotes it to reading law.
He loves law, and no doubt, if he
had begun the study of law
three years ago, instead of en
tering into politics, he would
have ranked to-day with the best
attorneys of the state. Lawyers
frequently go to him and ask
about eertain points of law. And
he is always prepared, and will
ing, to give the desired infor
mation. :
_+ Mr. Herrington is a very pop
ular gentleman throughout Jeff
Davis county, and we dare say
there is not another man in the
- county who could beat him for
_-any office that he might wish ta
run for.
i He is a big=hearted, christain
gentleman, always jn a happy
‘'mood, carryipg sunshine with
* him instead of shadow. Heg al
ways has a pleasant word for all
whom he comes in contact with.
May he live long and serve our
people many years to comey 1S
-the. wish' of the writer.
- We receive all the big * daily
papers of the state at this office,
and every one of them are just
as good as they can be made, it
geems. But, somehow, the At
‘lanta Georgian is always the first
daily we select from the pile;
after getting them from the
post-office. ~ They have such a
catchy style in getting up heads
in that office. And. they use
brevity. 'They condense their
matter in the Georgian office.
You don’t have to wade through
4 column before you getto the
point. And this is one reason
-the Georgian is so popuiar.

Narshall Lewis is the name of the

Isn’t it awful? Just as the
blackberries had began to ripen,
flour took a jump and went high

Mr. T. B. Hartig is now pub
lishing TheGlennville Advertiser,
and from the very libeéral adver
tising patronage he is receiving
right on the jump, it looks like
the paper is there to stay. Mr.
Hartig is one of the best writers
in the state, and if those busi

they will continue to patronise it
libierally, and keep him there.

' Costly Law Robes.
An English judge's outfit in the way
of robes imposes a heayy tax upon the
newly appointed judge, although the
cost is not nearly so great as it was
in the early days of Queen Victoria.
Then it was the custom for the law
luminaries to attend court function
in figured damask silk gowns, with
costly lace bands and ruffles. Thesi
ger, a celebrated legal dignitary of
that day, is said on one occasion te
have spent £IOO on bapds alone. The
lord chancellor’s robes cost something
like £l5O, and even a judge's stockings
are an expensive item. The wardrobe
of a judge costs anything from £3500
to £6OO, and if the newly fledged “my
lord” is attached to the king's bench
division he will require five gowns, a
girdle, a scarf, a casting hood, a black
cap, a three cornered cap, a beaver
hat, a cocked hat, a silk bhat, lace
bandsand two full court suits, swords,
etc., to keep up the majesty of the
law.—London Globe. :
