¥ threé little orphans and
onrs%:pent last Sunday over
in Coffee county, at the lovel
and hospiiable home of Mr. J."M.
Peterson’s, and to say that weall
enjoyed the day, but mildly ex
presses it. It does an editor
good to get away from the
‘print shop'* occasionally, and
spend a day out in the country.
Mr, Peterson is one of Coffee
county’s solid and well-to-do
citizens, and" is surrounded with
the greatest abundance ol
everything that is conducive to
make a man happy, if possible.
He is blessed with a most ex
cellent wife-a help-meet in every
sense of the word-and siX beau
tiful, healthy childven, which is
enough to make any man happy,
whether he owns a foot of land or
not. ' !
' He is a manufacturer of navel
stores and a very ext\ensive far
mer., Yes, he is a very success*
ful farmer. He has about forty
hands on his place, and he raises
enough <orn, meat, “syrup and
sweet-potatoes on his farm to
supply his household with and te
feed his hands on, "~ And this is
what we call model farmiong.
Talk about your living, but they
live at his house. When we sat
down to the table Sunday for the
noon meal we found sitting beiore
‘us on the table, big, fat butter
‘milk biscuit, goiden butter, syrup
tiice boiled home raised hain, new
Irish potatoes, snap-beans, cab
bage, hall dozen different kinds
‘},o‘tfldescert, light bread, good old
‘pone corn-bread, ete. .
. Now, nearly everything that
4vas on that table he had raised
on his farm. 'Of course, he 'buys
his flour, sugar and coifee, and
this is about all. The other eat
ables he raised.
And, he has a fish pond within
three hundred yards of his house
and whenever he wants a mess
of fish-its like going to the smoke
house for a piece of meat-he
goes to the pond and gets them.
Yes, J. M. Peterson, of Seme
nole, is a well-fixed man, and ap
pearantly a very happy man.
...We enjuyed every momens we
spent there, and we know that
our three little boys never spent
a happier day in their lives, than
they did Sunday. It was one
protracted frolic with them from
the moment we landed there un
til'they left. Then Leo and Bob
were wishing the train would
leave us, so they could get to
spend another day there.
Dr. Hail and his wife attended
the great Musical Festival ab
Valdosta last Saturday night,
retarning to Hazlehurst Sunday
night. The Doctor says that he
has been in many large cities,
and have heard many different
fine bands play, but he had never
before heard anything that would
in any way compare with the
music he heard Saturday night.
There were sixty-five violins
playing at the same time. This
was one of the largest musical
organizations ever trayeled in the
South, and was frow Dresden,
Germany. ‘
On the first of May the G.& F.
R. R, will put on anather pas
senger traifr,” which® will run
from this., pla¢e through to
Madison, Fla. This will make
two passenger trains on this new
road daily, which demonstrates
that there is a great deal of travel
over this road. When this road
is completed to Augusta it will
be one of the best paying roads
in the south. In fact, it is pay
ing handsomely already. |
The entire office force wentout
to the river fishing last T'hurs
day. You want to know what we
caught, don’t you? Nothing but
a bad cold from wading in that
river mud up to our knees.
There may be plenty of fish in
that river, and we suppcse are,
but we could never have any luck
fishing in a river, We like still
water, where you can see the
cork bob up and down. Yes, and
we have found an ideal fishing
plac of this kind, too, and ere
long the office doers will be closed
again for another day.

“‘Nobody does use them,’ said the
