Owing to the fact that we are
scarce of body-type in this ot
fice, wecannot—in the future—
give our correspondents more
than' 4 half colamn space at any
one time. We have been forced
to leave out local, and other im

account of the lenght of the
article headed, “‘Citizen’s; reply

When we arrived at our office
on °‘Monday morning last we
fourd a cucumber lying on the
piazza 17 idches long: A note
was attached to it, sayingz, that
if “we cared to say anything
about it, that the grower’s name
would be found out later.” The
grower need not be ashame to
clain’ the honor of growing this
extremely large cncumber, and
should have put his or her name
to the note, s 0 that we could
have iven them credit of grow
ing the largest cucumber eyer
seen:before in Jeff Davis coanty.
Rev. W. J. Googe, our popular

However its a good ways off yet,
and he seems tobe undecided

he decide to run, no doubt he
would make a good race, far he

unti! our public school will epen
up again, and while wea think
about it, will make nlittle sug
gestion, and that is, for goodness
sake stop this way of sending
out of the county to hire teachers
when you can find just ds com
petent instructors in Jeff Davis
county as you can get elsewhere.
No doubt there are many well
qualiied and deserving , young
ladies and young men in
this county who would be' glad
of the opportunity to teach in
our school. Itis really a reflec~
tion upon our county, to seud
away lor teachers. -
Of course, if the ftequisite
pumber. of teachers cau’c be
secured in the county to teach
every g;fie, then send off and
imports@me here. But, we. be
licve that the entire faculty can
be securedin the county to teach
the schenl, We honestly believe
that the patrons of the school
would be muach bet‘er p eased
with “‘hhome teachers.”
As for us, we would ba deligh
ted to see every department of
our pubiic school pregiced over
during next term by people who
call J{f Davis county their home.

Bible commands.
Bro. 8. G. Tayglor did the
preaching, and the Lord cil
give him great power. The
church was certainly revived,
while there was not but one* ad
dition te the church we feel ‘that
we have been greately blessed by
having the meeting, We did have
‘the bast, quietest t'me, nothing
to hinder Gods:ehilaren from en

two of dur lovely girls whispered
to each other whike the preacher
was praaching, ard tha preacher
had to call them to order. Girls
we trust this will not be the case
any more, for its very ug'y to
whisper during preaching.

“are professionals. The good old fash
foned amateur weather prophets that
could teli you what the next day would

and looking at the' sky are ro more.
People are growing up to depend on
the weather reports in thé newspapers,
and they don’t develop any Intuition
