Lear Editor:--
As a tax payer and voter of the
|Cil}' of Hazlehurst, I desire to com
m-nd you and yonr paper forthe
l article about the driinagesystem of
this little city, every word uttered
l\\'ns true and I tLink that you
could have said more »nd not de
viated from that path Lnown as
truthfuli e s.
1 have heard some say that it is
impossible to keep the streets in
sny kind of condition on account
of the bad weather, thatis not
true, for had our streets been ina
well graded condition =all of this
water would have been carried off
very nearly as fast as it fe', but
’Ed tor there are ther things that
have helpad to put Tallahassee St.
!i-x the deolerable eondition she in
‘t) wit: filling the streets with briek,
!s.m(l, and mud out of the building,
!this should rave Dbeen moved
at once, in first place it should not
have been allowed in tde street, the
‘contracter or who cver is the prop
er paryy sh uld have carried this
stuff off as fast as his wagons could
‘move it, now Editor, facts are facts
and what we want to knowis why
‘the ditches are in such condition,
‘whose fault is 1t? Isit the fault
of the Street Committee? Or the
Mayor and Allerman? Who is to
Dblame Editot we want to know?
%'l he present condition of our streels
)is not only a disgrace to. onr com
munity but itisa _____well Editor
\ I can’s say what itis for Uncle
‘Sam might not let your paper go
thra the mails,
\’ I trust that no one will donstrue
this of 4 [id% at the present Mayor
:angl board of Alderman for such is
not my desire, for 1 consider that
‘the present Mayor isa man with
the right kind of stuff and I for one
hope to vote for him for another
term, and this letter is mearly for
the purpose of getting them to look
at the thing in the proper light and
say who is to blame, and muke the
proper one fix the streets ap once.
and Mr. Editor another thing I‘
desire to know is where is the Civie
League, O where, O where, Editor
is our much heard of Civie Lengue.‘
1f 1 uaderstood the thing right they
were to beautify our little eity, do
vou call the present condition of
the streets beausiful? Then Editor
all of the members need glasses very
badly, but they :nay say that the
drainage system of the City is some
thing that is not up to them and
by keeping up the drainange system
they would not be making the city
Leautiful, they can’t say this, for
to keep the drainage in good repair
willba to keep our streats in good
condition and hence clean.
Now Editor I think that between
the Mayor and Aldermen and the
Civic League something ought to be |
done at onde and if not, they should
come out and say '‘we have been at
weighed in the ballance and .found
wanting.”
