of the Comus Club were entertained
by: the young ladies to a Valentine
party at the oid school-house audi
terium, it being beautifully decora
ted for the occasicn. Mrs, Ernie
Gill acted as chaprone. Gamesand
music were enjoyed, and refresh
ments were served later in the eve
ning. :
The Comus Clubisa newly organ
ized club in Hazlehurst and is still
in it’s infancy, but with Mr. lenry
Pyidgen as their President, and Miss
Kate Gheesling, Secretary and
Treasury there is no doubt that they
will come to success, e

We have heard i¢ rumered a
round that our Hon. John A. Crom:
artie is thinking over the idea of
becoming a candidate for Railroad
Commissioner. Now we hope this
is true, for no man in Georgin "has
got more friends than: he has,
Y7e venture to say that he will
sweep South and Middle Georgia
and poll a heavy vote -throughout
North Georgia. He is now our
present Senator and stands’ high
being cne of the mosé prominent
men 10 the Senate. Now lets wake
up and have Sonth Georgin remem
bered in the next election. ‘

Wedding At Church Servige
_ Sunday afternoon at vßowlands‘
School House six miles east of
town occurred the marriage of Miss
Mollie Rowland and Mr. Acy
Rooks. |
The.wedding occured iax mediate
lv after the benediction had been
pronounced at the religious services
which was held in that neighbor
hood. - |
The ceremony was performed by
Eov. Austin. |
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. J. T. R. Rowland, the
groom is one of the most energertie
young farmers in _that section of

J. M, McDonald, a barber, was“
ordered arristed by Sheriff Ell's
here last week and was carried qo{
Hazlehurst, in Jeff Davis County
to answer to the charge of Lignmy
MeDonald eame to Ashburn about
a menth ago and was a barber by
trade, working in a local shop here.
He bronght a wife and two
children. with him, made fi'iends‘
rapidly and was well thought of up
until the charge was brought a
gainst him, ~ The. warrant was.
gworn out by his former wife fr'om,J
whom he had been sepérated onlv

wag not divoreed. He was carried
to Hazlchurst last Friday, dand Sat

The plan now is to raise $1,759.
00 and complete the New Metho
dist Church in ten weeks. - The
Building committee estimates that
this amount of money and ten
‘weeks of work will put the roof on
and get the building ready for furn
ishings.
So last Sunday morning, Rev.
Geo. F. Austin placed the matter
before the congrezagion and took a
collection, one tenth of each sub
scription payable each week. At
the morning and eveninng service
over $400., or S4O. per month was
secured, The subscription isbeing
pushed this week, and as we go
to press about SI,OOO, or SIOO. per
week has been subscribed. It is
expected that by next Sunday
night the entire $1,750.00 will be
subscribed to be paid in ten weeks
The first payment of subscription
is due NEXT MONDAY, altho sev
aral subscribers have paid one, two
and three weeks in advance,
_The subscriptions range from 10
cents to ¢IB.OO per week. There
is not a person in town but that
can give something on' this plan,
even tho it be a small amount.
