The Georgia and Florida Rail
way will operate a special train
into Hazlehurst, Wednesday,
December sth, and will givea
demonstration of Poultry and
Stock Raising, using motion
pictures and giving lectures by
leading men. The farmers and
people generally of Razlehurst
and Jeff Davis county are not
only invited to visit this special
train but are urged to attend
and learn the right way to raise
and care for poultry and live
stock and how to market same.
Below is a schedule and pro
gram of what you will see and
learn:
Daily Sessions 2:30 to 5:00
P. M., and 7:30 to 10:00 P. M.
PROGRAM
1. Points to be considered in
selecting @ profitable dairy cow.
(At least three local cows will
be used in demonstration by
the speaker.)
2 How to get the best re
sults at milking time.

milk te calves, chickens and
pigs to best advantage.
6 Making 8 balanced ration
from home grown feeds for

crop in connection with pastures
for live stock. (There will be
an exhibit of native pasture
grasses.)

Kills Two Large Deer
Mr. Raleigh Weod and his
brother, Jerome Wood, went
out humting ome day last week
and both killed a large buek
deer. Hunting has been extra
good for the sportsmen this
season and hundreds of quail,
squirrel, and ether small game
kave beex bagged and brought
in. ?

Death Sentence
Is Commuted
Atlanta, Nov. 21.~Governor
L. G. Hardman today ecommuted
the death sentence of Mrs. Eula
Thompson, convicted of murder
at Chatsworth in 1927, to life
imprisonment.
The woman’s husband, Clif
ford Thompson, and a negro,
Jim Moss, were executed for
the same crime some weeks ago.
Mrs. Thompson’s case at the
time her husband was executed
was on appeal to the state su
preme court, where it was af
firmed and she was again
sentenced to death.
A day before the woman was
to be electrocuted, Governor
Hardman granted her a respite
which would have expired Fri
day, Nov. 28, so-that he could
study her case. - :

Atlanta, Nov. 23.—Hardly 48
hours after Governor L. G.
Hardman had commuted the
death sentence of Eula Elrod
Thompson, to life, her engage
ment to a railroad news agent,
who saw her while in custody
on a train, was announced.
The young woman, who was
convicted with her husband,
Clifford Thompsen, and & negro,
Jim Hugh Moss, of murdering
a Chatsworsh, Ga., storekeeser
in 1957, is in jail at Chatsworth.

Two Fires In Hazlehurst .
Last. Wednesday morning at
daylight the house known as
the old Doctor Barber house on
Tallahassee street was burned
down. The fire had made great
headway before it was dis
covered and only quick work
by the fireman saved the ad
joining buildings. The house
was owned by Mr. H. C. Bur
dette.
Early Monday morning the
howe of Mr. Lanier, in the
‘porthern part of the eity was
discovered on fire. The fire
was extinguished before any
damage was done.
Methodist Pastor Arrives
Rev. F. J. Snell and family
arrived in Hazlehurst last Wed
nesday, and will make their
home here for the next twelve
months.
Rev. Snell was sent to Hazle
hurst by the South Georgia
conference at its recent session
held in Columbus., He has
been a member of the con
ferene for a long number of
years and ranks as ome of the
leading preachers of the com
ferenee. |
Mr. Bnell and family were
met upen their arrivrl here by
a delegation of the members of
the Methodist ehurch and es
eorted to the parsonage where

ing them, prepared by&the ladics
of the chureh.

An enjoyable affair eof last
week was the P. T. A. social,
which was held at the home of
Mrs. 88. B. McDonald on Wed
nesday afternoon.
The hostesses on this ocassion
were Mesdames McDonald, M.
Jarman, Jack Wileox, Otto Mid
dleton, L. J. King, W. E. Kemp
and Misses - Agnes Fleming and
Mary Nash. ~
The house was artistically
decorsted with a profusion of
‘autumn leaves, marigolds and
chrysanthemums.
A poem, ‘‘Thanksgiving,”
was read by Miss Nash and the
“Story of the Pilgrims’’ was
read by Miss Fleimng. A number
of unique _contests were en
joyed.
A variety of fruits, nutsand
candy were enjoyed after the
games. The favors were dolls
dressed like Pilgrims.
