OBITUARY.
Dioil in Blaek-h.vir, on the 9 th
November, 1889. in her thirty-sixth
Mrs. Ansa Virginia Byrd,
consort of E Z. Byrd. When the
velh'W fever visited Savannah, in
IS54. the parent< of Mr- - . Byrd fled
to Effingham county, where she was
born, on the 29th September of that
year. On the 16th October, 1879,
she was married to Mr. Byrd, since
which time, until her decease, she
was a resident of Blackshear.
She became a member ol the M. E.
Church South in 1887. She \va< a
model wife, an affectionate mother,
and a good neighbor; in her life she
displayed all those traits which adorn
and beautd'y the character ol the true
woman; quiet, gentle, unostentatious
her manner, loving, amiable iri
her social intercourse, faithful and
true in her friendships, she was one
of those women .to whom her home
was her kingdom, and the hearth
stone, the family fireside, her
throne; and in leaving, she, indeed,
leaves a vacant chair in the family
circle, and a void for her many
friends; her children will rise up
and call her blessed. Be not, over
sad, dear children, in ilher has hut
exchanged this home for a brighter
land, a larger sphere of joy and
happiness. ’Twas but the Voice ol
Jesus calling her to llis arms, and.
though no more on earth will you
meet her, or hear her loving voice, or
see her gentle smile, there is a place
where you may see her again, in that
sweet by and by. and where no
parting shall ever be known.

Card of Thanks.
Mr. E. Z. Byrd desires to render
the columns ol the Timks the medium
for expressing, to the ladies of Black
shear, his sincere appreciation ol
their kindness and active sympathy
during the fatal illness of his wife.
Their tender ministrations in the
sick chamber will never lie forgotten,
nor the kindly sentiments of neigh
borly regard on the part ol his
lellow townsmen, In the hour
affliction wo know our friend.-.
Black-hear has hitherto either
taken a very one-sided view ot He
opportunities that, has have t.rca'ed presented
themselves, or she them
with a very unwise carelessness.
The interests of the town and
cunty are really identical, and it c
quite possible that it the town hud
proved herself more active in the
lead she would have received more
practical support trout lho County,
