SUICIDE,
Young William Crawford, Grandson of
old Uncle Reuben Crawford Found
Dead in the Woods.
On Tuesday afternoon ol last week,
young William Crowtord, son of Mr.
R. M. Crawlord. borrowed the gun
of Mr. 0. W. Walker and went off
hunting. He did not return at night
fall uml it was supposed he had run
away, and nothing further was
thought of it. At the time young
Crawford, who was about 20 years
old, was working with Mr. D. J.
Walker, who lives ten mdes north of
Blackshear. Alter several days had
passed and nothing was heard of the
young man, considerable uneasiness
was felt for his salcty. Sunday
morning, about ten o’clock, his body
was found by Mr. O. W. Walker,
about a half mile from Mr. D. J.
Walker’s home. He was lying on
bis back, near a branch, and his
shoes were lying about 40 leet from
the body. The sock had l>ccn re
moved irom one foot, and it is sup
posed that he removed it iu order
that he might pull the trigger of the
gun with his toes, as the gun was
lound laying across the body. The
load entered under the chin and
and came out at the top of the head.
Dickson, An inquest was held by Mr. A, J.
J. P., and the verdict of
the jury was that the deceased had
ffl et death at his own hands.
The young man was not considered
of sound mind, and it is supposed
that he was suffering from a tempo
rary fit of insanity when he killed
himself. No other cause for the
deed has been giveD. He was al
ways treated kindly and considerate
ly by those around him.
ANOTHER SAPS SOBBSSY.
John A. Strickland's Store Entered
His Safa Drilled Open and Bobbed.
Last Wednesday night buigl.trs
entered the store of Mr. John A.
Strickland, drilled open his sale and
robbed it ol all its contents. The
burglars secured about sixty live dol
lats in cash ami a number ol papers,
including lat.d deeds and notes.
trance was effected through a front
wiudow, and an exit was recured
through the rear door ol the store.
Both the window and the door were
found carefully closed Thursday morn
ing. The wot kef drilling the
was so cleverly done its to lead to
the theory that, it was the work of an
expert. Alter going through Mr.
Strickland’s store, Hie burglars went
to the store of Messrs. T. L. Aosta
& Co., and made an unsuccessful at
tempt to enter it. The attempt was
made at a rear window, and was
only frustrated by the fact that the
window Imd been ceiletl
over on the inside and shelving built
across it, the shutter having been
lorced open.
There is reason to believe that the
work was done by the same parties
who entered Mr. I>. II. Burney’s
store, a lew weeks ago.
Mr. Strickland recovered his land
deeds and other papers Friday morn
ing. They were lound on the vacant
square, in the rear of Mr. M. M.
Cohen’s store, and had no doubt
been left there the night before.
There has been too much of this
kind of work in Blackshear, within
the past lew months, and we hope
an effort will be made to put an end
to it.
Remarkable Rescue.
Mrs. Michael Curtain, Plainfield,
III., makes the statement that she

A Suggestion.
The city cemetery ought to bo in
elnsed, and the city council should
take the matter in hand ami have the
needed work done at once. It would
require but a small expenditure to do
it. Protection must he Imd from the
cows and hogs that are permitted to
run at. large upon our streets. A
substantial fence should lie erected,
with n gate at the head of Court
street so arranged that it, would shut
itself. Then to prevent idlers from
leaving the gate ajar, the council
might impose a fine upon such per
sons jt“ were guilty ol the malicious
conduct.
The fence is needed, and we hope
it will he built without delay.
