THE GREAT FINANCIAL CRISIS.
Tkc Silver Act of 1ST* Mast be Eopcali.
New York. June 30th, 1893.—
Our country i* threatened wiill one
of the jrreatost disasters since the
Civil War. Its institutions ore Ik*—
jug shaken to their very foundations.
The Demon Distrust is stalking about
the land, from the Atlantic to the
Pacific, leaving in his trail the
countless wrecks of the work ol thous
ands of his honorable citizens.
The standurd of value by which
the money ol the poor man and the
rich man i.- measured, is trodden in
the dust. Instead of twelve inches
to the foot, we ore forced to accept
six or a little over. The actual in
trinsic valve of our present silver dol
lor is about 53 cents, and growing
less cadi day. Still this great Amer
ican nation is obliged to calmly face
inevitable rum—the sweeping away
oflar more wealth than was involved
in the grout war between the North
and South, simply because its Repre
sentatives are not called together in
accordance with the authority vested
in its Cltiel Executive, and forced u>
remove front the Statute B>*oka the
law which is eating away the vitals
of Atuericua honesty, of American
credit, and costing into a great abyss
a century of financial honor.
REPEAL THE SILVER ACT OF 1890.
Every day ’s delay means untold ruin
and heart rending distre-s Our great
United States is fast becoming a fi
nancial outcast among the nations ol
the world. The people of the United
Status aro honest, yet our honesty rs
impugned.
We have made a mistake. We
know it. It is the will of the people
that this grave mistake shall be im
mediately corrected. Is-t the Pres -
dent convene Congress at once and
then let the people in all parts of the
land ri*e up ami with righteous in -
dignution demand that this luw be
immediately repealed.
This is ”a Government of the peo
