The nights are rarely unpleasant.
The winters are mild and extremely
pleasant, the thermometer ranging
from 45 degrees minimum, to 70 de
greet maximum. Sometimes, though
rarely, the thermometer will register
very much lower, the lowest point on
record being 13 degrees above,
Blackshear is the homo o! the
Pierce county High School, an insti
tutionoflearning which ranks high
in the educational world. The nor
mal system is nsed with great sac
cess. The sehool draws its patron
age from a wide and increasing ter
ritory. All useful brunches ol leant'
ing are taught, including music,
stenography, pedagogy and commer
cial usage, as socials. The young
man or maiden graduate*! from this
school is well Equipped for the battle
of life.
There are four churches, Methodist
Presbyterian, Baptist, anil Kpiscopnl
euch having representative congre
gations. The moral status ot the
town is high.
The negroes have their separate
schools and churches.
In the cotton season all roads lead
to Blackshear. the farmers of Pierce
and all of the adjoining counties

here. It is no uncommon occurrence
lor a farmer to haul his cotton 25 and

market. In this respect Blackshear
ranks ahead of ar.v town in Southeast
Georgia. Over $200,000 is annually
paid out over the counters of Bluck
shear's cotton merchants.

The Blackshear Bank lias sub'
scribed capital ol $56,000 and a paid
in capitul ol $25,000, and is well
patronized locally aad abroad.
In the residential portion of Black
shear are to be found some very
handsome and comfortable homes,
which, with its wide, beautifully
shaded street?, add to its natural at
tractiveness. Its business houses, of
brick and wood, are substantial and
modern in appearance. Its public
edifices are creditable and in keeping
with the progress of the town.
Blackshear'? public officers are al
ways chosen from its conservative
business men, o( public spirit, a lact
which guarantee? that the adminis
tration of municipal affairs is both
wise and economical. These officers
are a Mayor and a Board of Council
men. The rate of taxation is kept
low, the combined State, county nnd
municipal tax rarely exceeding 1 per
cent, per annum.

a permanent, established value, the
purchaser having no occasion to fear
a decline,
Blackshear is a prohibition town,
made so by a prohibitive license. It
