A light rain last Tuesday.

Miss Xena Goethe is visiting
friends in Jesup this week.
Mrs. H. Agathen spent a few days
in Way cross last week.
Little Flossie Adams has been here
visiting her aunt, Mrs. Lonnie Strick
land.
Little Maud Grady who has been
visiting her aunt, Mrs. T. W. Ellis,
at Hawkinsville, lias returned home.
Sheriff Davis is on his round with
jury subpoenas for the May term of
tho superior court.
Last Tuesday was Sheriff’s sale day
and several lots of land changed
bands.
T. J, Darling came down Irom the
Magic City Monday evening to put
up a windsmill at the jail.

Guess who the young lady is that
says she has been away several times
and has never seen her name in the
paper yet.
We said in last week's paper that
we would publish the game law this
week, but it is unavoidably crowded
out again.
Mrs. J. L. Grady left Monday for
Savannah to visit relatives, and will
probably extend her visit to llawk
insville before returning home.
Mrs. E. L. Darling is visiting her
aunt, Mrs. M. F. Reals, in Wayeross
this week.
Mr, James White raised “cain"
last Saturday with some auction
goods. He sold ati old Singer sew
ing machine for 95 cents, and a pis
tol for 30 cents.
Mr. Lazarus Dowling, of the 590th
district passed through town last
Saturday cn route to the northern
portion of the county.
Maxie Cohen passed through town
last Friday enroute to Newnansville
to take temporary control of the bus-,
iness of his Uncle, R. II.Kaul, who
was murdered last week.
Mr. Walter Lambert had occasion
to enter into a flst-’o-cuff with, a
colored man, General Spicy, last
Monday eveaing.

were delegates to the Sunday School
Convention of the Piedmont Associa
tion which was held in Jesup last
week.

Miss Nellie Peck, who has been
here Tisiting her brother, Rev. T. J.
Peck, pastor ol the Methodist church
left this morning lor her home at
Covington, Va. Miss Peck says she
is well pleased with the Southland,
all except the sand.
The Board of Education met last
Tuesday and among other business
transacted was the susfiension, for
the present year, of the Strickland
School District, and the children are
at liberty to go to school wherever
! they please.
A proinineBt citizen remarked the
other day while in this office that if
a freeze didn’t come ami kill his fruit
| trees there would be no more hard
times with him. The three first let
ters of his name are J. A. H.
Rumor has it that Miss Annie
Mitchell, music teacher at the High
School has gone home to get marri

j Mrs Rose Ann Warwick has been
adjudged a lunatic and is now ir. the
county jail. Our conception of the
> law is that a jail is lor criminals, ami
| it is a shame to have to confine un
: fortunate lunatics inside of prison
J walls, lor that over which they have
no control. However, such is un
avoidable in most places, but it is
none the less a shame.
Charlie Benton, a hearty, haie
young man of this county died a lew
days ago at the home of bis bro., Ed
Benton, from paralyiis. There was
not a more robust man in the county
than Mr. Beaton which shows that
death does not always com* first for
the weak ones.
Resolutions of Respect.
Whereas, death has again invalid
ed our community, and this time tak
en from our Sunday school one of its
brightest and most lovable jewels, in
the person oi Miss Lou Riggins, who
breathed her last on February ‘25th
at about 10:30 o'clock in the morn
ing, from consumption. She was
fully conscious up to the moment of
her death, and realizing that her life
was fast ebbing out she bade them nil
good-by and passed away. She was

church, and intimated before she left
that all was well.
Resolved, That we tender our
heartfelt sympathy to the heartbroken
parents and other members of the

Ordinary’s Court.
Last Monday was Ordinary’s court
and but very little business was up
for trial. The case of W. A. Martin
for letters ot guardianship of person
and property was continued until the
May term.
The petition for a new road, com
menciug at Tanner's and running
the old tramroad to Jos. Dickson’s,
was granted and the road will be
opened.
