Macon Police Think They Have One of a
Brace of IIJghtrayrnen.
The police of Macon, Os., think
they have definite clues that will en
able them to find the men who robbed
the local express safe between Macon
and Gordon Thursday night. One
man is now in enstody. He has given
two different names.
The authorities say the chain of cir
enmstances against him is very strong.
The other men is being searched for.

The executive committee was re

At Peru, Ind., Thursday Ileury
Huffman, animal trainer with the
Wallace circus, was killed by the
elephant, “Big Charley.” Tbe elo
phant, while bathing in the Mississin
ewa river, east of Peru, wound his
trunk about Keeper Huffman and
hurled him far into the stream. The
keeper, uninjured, spoke lo tho great
beast, saying, “Why. Charley, I didn’t
think that of you. Aren’t you ashamed
of yourself?” The next instant he was
grabbed, thrown again iDto the river
and held down until drowned by the
forefeet of “Big Charley.”

Hill, Ala., was found dead Monday
morning, her body hanging to a rope.
The young woman was subject to
epileptic fits, and it is supposed that
this made her despondent and caused
the rash act. She left no letter of ex
rdanation.

the Weillhauser syndicate has acquir
ed 70,000 acres of yellow pine land in
Sabine and Vernon counties, Louis
iana. Tho consideration was about
8650,000. Isaac Stephenson and the
estate of A. O. Brown, of Marinette,
were the principal owners, This deal
also includes a section of pine land
owned by Mr. Stephenson individu
ally.

Indications are that the Cherokee
treaty has been beaten by a large ma
jority. Chief Bnffinglon’a home gave
300 majority against the treaty. Buf
fington led the fight against the treaty.
Defeat means the enforcement of the
Curtis law.
