The Modern Horse Show.
1
Thu up to tittto horse show Is tho most
iutensely lntvrostiuv oxhibitlou of mod
ern times. Tho reasons for this nre uot
altogether plain, though it is evident
ti nt tho dual character of tho show is
largely responsible for its popularity.
Custom makes tho modern horse show !
quite as much a show of people ns of
horses. The ball was set rolling by the
f. great show which Is held annually in
uw y ork city , For n n . epk> daring
tho month of November every year,
New York society holds high carnival
In Madison Square Garden on the oo
casiou of the horse show. Those who
have a professional interest iu horses,
a. well as the aateurs, are there iu
but all society, regardless of iu
t.tvu in horses, comes to see and be
M eu, and the great building is a vents
ble hive of fashion for tho full period of
the show.
1 he other horse shows throughout the
country have been patterned closely after the
New York show as ns possible,
and everywhere the annual events have
proven p^pulsr bevoud file greatest ex
pcctatiohs of their promoters. Atlanta
held her first horse show last fall, under
tho auspices of the Fair Association. It
project until after tho first utght, and
thou it was simply n question of supply
ing enough seats, and this tho manage
ment was never able to do.
But tho groat Coliseum on tho Fair
grounds is being completely remodelled
for tho horse show this fall, and there
will bo ample seating capacity. added A num
ber of l>0X08 will be as well; in
deed, the interior of the building will
bo arranged on modern lines in every
way, and those who attend the Fair aud
horse show this fall will witness a
veritable transformation. The groat
arena, the elaborate decorations, bril
liant lights, and more than all else, the
beautiful aud richly gowned ladiet
everywhere to bo seen, will make the
picture worth going a long way to seo.
