EDUCATION.
To the People of Pierqe
County.
Mr. Editor:
I have been thinking for some
time of writing something for
your paper on the subject of edu
cation. My love for children and
especially the country children,
prompts me to write.
l* 10 destiny of our nation is
ssrs^s
man can doubt this who is ac
quainted with past and present
history.
There is a great future before us
if we will act wisely. The greatest
future is for the South, not the
North. While it may smack a
little of egotism for our own sec
tion to say so, I verily believe the
United States must look to the
South for its preservation. An
archy, communism and nihilism
is regnant in the North in a way
that is sapping the moral man
hood out of the young. Another
thing, the Jews and Roman Cath
olics have thrown the Bible out of
the is public schools, and the result
being felt in a greatly increas
ed criminal population. While
the North Atlantic States (includ
ing New England) are way ahead
of the South Atlantic States in
the way of education in mere
school books, they have about
three times as many criminals for
every one thousand inhabitants as
the South Atlantic among the
whites.

out of the schools. The Bible is

the grammars, all the arithmetics
the reading books and all the
geographies ideas and doctrines put together. of The
any one
church should not be taught, but
the pure word <>f god should be
taught to all the children.
As to what the children of
Pierce county make of themselves
and what part they take in the up

as the use of tools, and how to

But this he will learn better and
easier if he knows how. to think

will make.
Now learning how to think,

almost entirely. Now no man acts
well who does not know how to
think well. It might be well to
give a definition right here of ed
ucation. The dictionary says:
“To educate is to exercise the
mental faculties * « m
such a way ns to render efficient
the natural powers, and train
them for the duties of life,” In
other words education is
but the training of the faculties
which God has given so as to be
able to do the work God has given
us to do. That is not all; all the
truth taught in any of the text
hooks is but the truth of God.
Man can’t make a truth. Three

of God. and no man makes an
