we notice that the people are im
proving their property. Newly

Last Saturday while some young
men were passing by the home of
Roman Parker, near Ice, they shot
at his dog but hit an orphan boy
in both thighs causing very pain

The son of Mr. J. L. Avant died
Monday at Offerman with typhoid
fever. The young man was 14 or
15 years old and had been healthy
j all his life.
The city fathers are making the

Mr. Wm. F. Sweat, Ex-Repre
sentative of our county, after
lingering illness of seven years
died Sunday night Dec. 22. He
was buried Tuesday at Youmans
cemetery, in the presence of a
large number of his friends and
citizens. lie was buried with
Masonic honors; the impressive
ceremony ot Blackshear Lodge,
No. 270, F. & A. M.

A Cutting Scrap.
