Miller) We are getting behind with our work in this department now try ing tw get the oats and rye threshed. Carl .Self our second blacksmith, has been sick this week and hasn’t been able to help tis, but we will (By Clias. A. Stallings) We have just received a new supply of paper and printers ink which will last about a month or more. We have had several new sub scriptions this week, also several (By Spencer Henderson) The boys in the sewing hall have been going some this week for we have got enough shirts to supplly all the boys with new shirts. We have been doing about in the clothes room this week too, moving when he gets nve 1'. We had a real nice rain Monday night and Tuesday evening. We wouldn’t have to sharpen the plows so often it' it would rain enough to get the ground soft. We are still digging on our well, we haven’t got through the rocks yet. We are proud of the new sifter made for us by the boys of the workshop. It certainly is a great help. It takes about forty three pans of bread a dav for all the boys in both buildings. The bovs are getting cabbage often now. and seem to like them vers much. We received to bushels of meal from the mill yesterday. This will hi'i about three da>s. We also re ceived S^o lbs. of meat and 25 sacks of flour Saturday^ which will last us for this week. Wo are glad the workshop boys have put screens in the pantry win* dov\ s as it keeps t he t lies out. We were glad to see the rain as it will increase the blackbeerry crop All of the boys like black* berry pie. I pers of the state. We received a new broom in the office this week and it does clean sweeping. The blade of our paper cutter needs sharpening very bad. VVe miss our Boy Scout editor very much in getting out this week’s issue of the Future Citizen. He is away attending the boy scout’s encampment ana Bear Fight at Lord’s Lake in Wilkinson county. The carpenter squad have just 1 finished screening our windows and the flies are not so bad now. The Future Citizen received The 1 Specimen Book of Type Styles ' from the Southern Printers Supply Co. of Atlanta this month. I We have plenty of space on our ( mailing list for your name. May we have your subscription? J Scraps from the Sewing Hall | ( By James R. Scott.) i Wc are very glad to say that we have supplied the clothes room with enough shirts for all the boys. There is about 60 large boys and 40 small boys When we make the shirts they go to the clothes room, where they are numbered and givep to the boys. Arnold Butler, our new boy is a good worker and is learning fast. We made some paper sacks for for the newsboys who sell the Fu ture Citizen, to carry the papers in. We havejnude enough bed ticks to supply the senior and junior dor mitories. and straightening the old overalls so as to supply all of the boys with new overalls and number them up. It. is some job to number the clothes as we have 100 boys. We have supplied all the squads, both white and colored, with new water buckets as the clothes room is used for a storage room also. Greens from the Garden (By Dan Vess.) The school boys have been very busy for the past week preparing a , piece of ground for an addition to the garden. Our watermelons and cantaloupes are doing fine since the rain. Our squash vines are bearing very weli now. v We have gathered a few of them lately. The boys are all glad to see the snapbeans doing so well. They are looking forward to a mess of th m soon. The boys expected a thess of Irish potatoes, but the bugs-beat them to it. We are glad to see our tomatoes coming up. We hope they will do well for we all like tomatoes. Our. cabbages are doing fine. ! The boys get a mess of them every |day or so. We have some mules working in the garden this week and have about caught up with the work. | We have planted a nice patch of j okra and hope to see it growing | soon. j We have also planted a big patch of peas in the garden.
