TTJE insert with pleasure, tho following letter; W from tho Conway Tool Company. It shows clearly that the faith of the publio in Rich’s Sala mander Safes has not been misplaced:— Son way, Mass. July 14, 1851. Messrs. Roff, Stearns So Co., successors to C. Rich So Co., 146 Water street, New York:—Gentlemen— To your inquiries respecting tho fate of the Sala mander Safe, No. 3,381, purchased of you through Messrs. Wm. Bryco So Co., it is perhaps sufficient to say, that I am at present writing on paper which was in tho Safe at the time of tho destruction of our manufactory by firo, on the morning of tho 27th inst. Tho Safe was on tho lower floor of a three story building, containing considerable quantities of soasoned beach timber, and it was at a red heat when it fell into a bed of live hard wood ooals, ifi which it remained imbedded abont three hours, when it was drawn out, and, as soon as practicable, opened. Tho leather bindings of tho-books frorc heated by the steam, and some of the looso papers were somewhat stained; but not a single partile of paper in any book was injured, and not a single mark on any looso paper, whether igadc by a pen or perfcil, is defaced. We consider the Safe in qncstion as having passed through one of the se verest test to which it could have boon put, and we need not assure you teat wo rejoice at its success. We will forward you the burnt Safe, and in the mcantimo, send us another of tho same size and pattern, for immediate use. Yours, respoctfhlly. Conway Tool Company—A. PARKER; Agent.
