New York Medical Gazette,
we have no semi-monthly Journal of Health
anJ Medicine in the South, permit me to call the
attention of Georgia physicians to the above. It
is conducted with marked ability by David M.
jjeese. M. D., L. L. D., of New York, a gentle
man well known to the profession as an able
and distinguished writer. The Journal is pure
ly conservative —the organ of the profession,
not of a clique —and while it attacks quacke
iy and error with an unparalleled and suc
cessful boldness, it scorns injustice , and strikes
for equality to all honorable men in the pro
fession. The price of one dollar per aunum,
places it within the reach of every member of
the profession. It is an invaluable appendage
to every medical man, and it will be peculiarly
valuable to Georgia and Southern physicians from
a new feature which is endeavoring to be intro
duced into it. We need such a paper, even
in Augusta, but we have not it, and let us rally
to this. A Physician.
Later from Havana.
Schr. Wm. & John. Capt. Parker, arrived
here yesterday from Havana, which place she
left on the 7th inst. Capt. P. reports that on
the day he left, the prisoners taken in the Lopez
expedition, 160 in number, had sailed for Spain
in a Spanish transpoit, accompanied by a Span
ish man-of-war. Americans were treated with
as much politeness as usual.
Capt. Parker reports that on his arrival at Key
West going out, that a Spanish smack had arri
ved there with, a Spanishofficer on board, sent
there as a spy. The citizens of Key West find
ing this out endeavered to take the sloop, with j
the intention of destroying her, but she escajied,
and they then went to all the Spanish shops in
the town and destroyed their contents.— Savannah

(IT” Augusta Canal.—At a meeting of tho Board
of Managers of tho Augusta Canal, hold at their
office on the 16th of Soptcmbor, inst., tho following
Resolution was passed:
Whereas, the Board of Managers, acting on tho
information boforo them, and then deomed correct,
that by ihe use of the Augusta Canal, owners of
boats navigating tho same saved from twelve to
fourteen dollars a trip on each boat, and that such
owners had made no reduction wliatovor in the
freight, did, at their last meeting, imposo a toll of
four dollars on each boat entering tho Canal,
(equivalent to four coots per baloon cotton brought
down, and two dollars on tho return cargo, as some
small compensation for tbo use of a work construct
ed and maintained at very heavy oxpenso: And
whereas, tho Board havo sineo been informed that
tho toll so imposed is deemed exorbitant, and do
siro timo to confer with those interested in tho
question, with tho view of adjusting it on fair and
liberal terui3:
Therefore, it is Resolved, That tho collection of
all tolls on boats bo suspended until the furthor or
dcr of the Board, and that a committee of two bo
raised, to confer, with as little delay as possible,
with planters, boat owners, and others interested,
as to what would be a reasonable rato of tolls; !
and that notice of the tolls finally imposed be given
by publication in tho city papers, at least twenty
days before they are demanded.

I havo been visiting Angusta regularly every
year for tho last twenty, and a considerable por- j
tion of the timo, from four to six times a year. On
my last visit, I stopped at the Fit AN KLIN HOUSE,
kept by Mr. Ramsay, and although the other Ho
tels in tho city are very well kept, yet I cannot re
frain from giving expression to (he fact, that I have
never visited any Hotel in Augusta half so well cal
tulntcd to make tho traveller feel perfectly at home.
Without anything gorgeous, or for mere display, j
you find all the necessaries, and necessary luxuries
of the table, cooked and served up in the very best ,
country style, undor tho cyo of Mrs. Ramsay,
whose attention to her guests, and manifold solici
tude for their comfort and convenience is unsur
passed by any lady in Georgia: while Mr. Ram
say's exertions, early and late, are indefatigable
to the same end. Added to this, their servants
seem to partake of the same feeling and spirit, all
which renders tho “ Franklin House” emphatical
ly tho traveller's rest. And last, though not least,
the charges aro not only moderate, but very low.

THE*Rov. James Perryman, a Baptist Clergy
man, who is extensively known in Georgia,
states thus:
Talbot County, June, 1848.
Dr. Little, Dear Sir: Having been so much ben
efited by your medicines, I will cheerfully state tho
ease. For years past l have been badly dyspeptic,
sueh as tightness and oppression after meals, acidi
ty of tho stomach, debility, want of digestion, Ac.
In this state many articles of food were obliged to
bo avoided, to say nothing of the languor and
wrotehodness often experienced any way. It was
about under theso circumstances, I began using
your Antacid Vegetable Pills and Tonic Bitters;
very soon I found much rolief, with quite an im
provomont of health. Tho modicines I continued
with tho greatest advantage, particularly the Anta
cid, finding it always to give quick relief, and to
promote digestion I had not takon thetji long, be
fore I could use any kind of food I chose with im
punity, evon cabbago, and other things horetoforo
inadmissible. For many months past (sinco taking
tho medicine) I have enjoyed goo 1 health, which
has not been tho caso for yoars boforo. Those of
my friends and acquaintance similarly afflicted, I
would advise to try theso Dyspoptic medicines.
Yours truly,
