myself, in your Compound, callgd “ Magical Pain

TO PREVENT BALD HEADS.
THE human qair has, in all ages, been admitted
to be the most beautiful ornament belonging to
the human frame. Tho loss of it changes the coun
tenance and, prematurely, brings on tho appear
ance of old age. As a complete remedy for these
defects. Oldrtdge's Balm of Columbia is offered to
the public, which will prevent the hair from falling,
in forty-eight hours after tho first application. It
also prevents the hair from turning gray—makes it
look bright and glossy, and frees it from scurf.

_ THE FIRE IN CON WAY MASS.
WE insert with pleasure, the following letter
from tho Conway Tool Company. It shows
clearly that tho faith of the public in Rich's Sala
mander Safes has not been misplaced:—
Conway, Mass. July 14, 1851.
Messrs. Roff, Stearns A Co., successors to C. Rich
A Co., 146 Water street, Now York:—Gentlemen—
To your inquiries respecting tho fate of tho Sala
mander Safe, No. 3,381, purchased of you through
Messrs. Wm. Bryce A Co., it is perhaps sufficient to
say, that I am at present writing on paper which
was in the Safe at the time of tho destruction of our
manufactory by fire, on the morning of the 27th
inst. The Safe was on the lower floor of a three
story building, containing considerable quantities of
seasonod beach timber, and it was at a red heat
when it fell into a bed of live hard wood coals, in
which it remained imbedded about three hours,
when it was drawn out, and, as soon as practicable,
opened. Tho leather bindings of the books were
heated by the steam, and some of the loose papers
were somewhat stained; but not a single partilo of
paper in any book was injured, and not a single
mark on any loose paper, whether mado by a pen
or pencil, is defaced. We consider the Safe in
question as having passed through ono of tho se
verest test to which it could have been put, and wo
need not assuro you teat we rejoice at its success.
We will forward you the burnt Safe, and in tho
meantime, send us another of the same size and
pattern, for immediate use.
Yours, respectfully.
