Later from the Rio Grande.—The Revolution in
Mexico.
By the arrival, last evening, of the steamship
Fanny, Capt. Foote, we have a copy of the lliw
Bravo of the Ist inst., published at Brownsville,
Texas.
The revolution in Northern Mexico appears
to be at a stand. The revolutionary forces were
at Camargo, and Gen. Avalos, in anticipation of
their approach, is busily engaged in fortifying
Matamoras. The Rio Bravo says that he has
erected barricades and batteries, and is, appar
ently, resolved to fight to the last. He has a
torce of about 25 0 men. Most of the women and
children have left the city, and Brownsville is
crowded with them.
The Rio Bravo says that it is not known when
hostilities will be again commenced.
The Rio Bravo gives the following account of
the taking of Camargo:
We have just seen and conversed with a very
intelligent gentleman, who was actively engaged
throughout the whole battle of Camargo. It
lasted for some twenty hours, and was very hotly
contested. About sixty men on the side of the
regular Mexican forces were killed, and several
wounded of the troops of Col. Caravajal. The
Mexican regulars fought with much determina
tion and bravery, and were only overcome by the
superior skill and vigor of their adversaries. The
actual number engaged by the supporters of Car
avajal was evidently less than that of the regu
lars, but they were very excellent soldiers and
generally a more efficient sort of men. Col.
Caravajal himself behaved with the utmost cool
ness and gallantry during the contest. The
terms of capitulation are liberal and creditable to
both parties. We understand the surrender was
at discretion, and the terms subsequently grant
by Col. Caravajal, voluntary in a great measure
on his part. A day or so after the fight, Col. C.
took, as we learn, about fifty miles below Ca
margo, a regular detachment of sixty cavalry
prisoners, on their way to join Gen. Avalos at
Matamoros. They were surprised and laid
down their arms. On the 25th inst., they were
marched into Camargo amidst the rejoicing
of the people.
We copy the following from the same paj er:
Interesting.— We know, through a reliable
source, that Gen. Avalos, convinced of the criti
cal circumstances this frontier is to-day placed
in, has proposed to our illustrious ayuntamiento
the prudent measure of abolishing all prohibi
tions and reducing the taritfduties, provided that
such a step will bj agreed to by the corjioration
under its own and the General's responsibility.
From Camargo.— ln the town of Camargo,
on the 21st of September, 1851, all the citizens
having had a popular meeting, under the presi
dency of the first alcalde, to deliberate as to the
propriety of their seconding the plan proposed
on the 16th of the current month [Sept.] pro
claimed by the liberating forces now occupying
this place, under command of Senor Don Jose
Mrria Caravajal, and to which the troops of the
Gen. Government, under the orders of Sr. Cam
macho, have surrendered, the twelve articles
contained in said plan were read and after dis- J
cnssioii the same by acclamation were approved,
resolving at the same time to attach a copy of
this act, which was signed by all the citizens
[numbering some hundred names.]
A certified copy, Second Constitutional Court
of Camargo, September 26,1851.
SECUNDIO RECIO.
Later from California.
The Steamer Georgia arrived at New Orleans
on the 6th inst. She brought 100 passengers
and $78,000 in gold dust.
The accounts from that State are of the most
shocking and terrible character—murders, robbe
ries, thefts, mobs, lynch-law, &c., were the su
preme order of the day. The following is but a
specimen of many others of the "same sort” in
different parts of that country. We copy from
the Alta California of the Ist ult.
Events of more than common magnitude have
filled up the brief period which has elapsed since
the departure of our Atlantic mails. The city
of San Francisco has been convulsed w-ith ex
citements. Never within the recollection of any
of our citizens, have such stirring fearful scenes
been witnessed, occupying so brief a space in the
chronicle of the times, and never have the
trouble of excitement and passion beat higher,
or followed faster, one upon the other, than in
this community, since the 15th ult.
Shortly after the departure of that day, the
newspapers were filled with the revelations of
crime, wrung from the two prisoners, Whittaker
and McKenzie, who were in the custody of the
Committee of Vigilance, and who, it was report
ed, had been adjudged guilty and deserving of
death. Their confessions implicated a number
of men in this country, who bad previously en
joyed a high reputation. About the 21st, before
daybreak, a party of individuals, among whom
were the Governor of the State, and Sheriff Hays
of this county, obtained access to the committee
chambers, and the sheriff entering, seized the
two prisoners before the sleeping guards could
be aroused, and bore them to the county prison,
having previously obtained a writ of habeas
corpus with which to execute the duties of office.
For this act, Gov. McDougal was long, loudly
and justly censured by the press and by the peo
ple. His proclamation was also treated with
contempt.
On Sunday, 21th ult., the city was startled by
the peals ol the Vigilance bell, and before the
excited multitude could concentrate at any point,
to impede or promote action, a carriage had
dashed through the principal streets and con
veyed the two prisoners again into the hands of
the committee, at their Chambers. They had
been recaptured in broad day, from under the
bais and bolts of the authorities. They were
hung at high noon from the loft of the Committee
rooms, the fifteen thousand people beneath ven
ting their approbation in one, unanimous and ter
rific assent. This event only occupied eighteen
minutes of time.

DUNHAM A BLEAKLEY,
GEORGIA SARSAPARILLA.
PREPARED Br
J. DENNIS, M. D„ AUGUSTA, GA.
FOR DISEASES of tho Liver and to purify the Blood.
Dr. D. has made his preparation as pure as possible.
Its bitter taste corresponding with taste of the roots,
Erove its purity. Its beneficial effects iu diseases of the
iver prove it to be the most useful preparation of Sar
nayarilla that in made.
The prevalence of diseases In the Southern elimate,
arising from an inactive state of the Liver, and the ef
fect or tills Sarsaparilla in stimulating the Liver to in
creased action, causiug by itsalterative and mildly pur
gative effect the removal of the morbifle agent from the
Blood, have induced the Proprietor to use the pure
Sarsaparilla and nothing else in this preparation.
Kor other diseases Physicians using this preparation in
their practice can combine, or prescribe with it such ar
ticles as they might consider the most appropriate in
cases under their treatment.
As those who use the Georgia Sarsaparilla and find
benefit from its use—recommend it to others, and the
fast increasing demand, proves that the labors of the
Proprietor to make a good article have been duly appre
ciated by Southern people, thore is no need of publish
ing certificates. Northerrn preparations should not be
usok in the South, unless they are made freer of sweet
ened water and oilier things than they have been,
