LAMBACK, Chief Engineer. i Alex. Philip. Scc. y td oct. 22 ATTENTION FHCENIX FIRE CO.—NO. 4. (J'p’ Appear at your Engine House on Saturday next, the 25th instant, Jumfeu. .. at 2J o'clock, P. PHILPOT, Sec.'y. , QjU A Card.—Finding that the days and hours I have appointed to give lessons in the city of Au gusta, does not suit the convenience of those who might bo willing to patronize, and having no other time I could devoto towards giving lessons, I havo_ thought best to postpone any further effort towards ' forming a class here, until the middle of January , next. By that time I will have finished my sohools ( elsewhere, and will return here to renew tho offer of my services. oct. 22 2 A. V. ROBISON. A Card.—My attention has been called to ! an advertisement of W. AY. Starke, in the Chroni cle of tho 21st inst,, for a runaway nogro, purchased of me, whom he represents as being ablo to drink n | , quart of whisky a day, and one of tho biggest ras- ' i col* in Georgia. I think the tone of the adver- j ’ lisement is calculated, if not intended, to do mo an injury—and, in self-defence, will relate tho particu lars of the transaction. In the first place, I would say that I never was at AY. YV. Starke's plantation in my life. As to tho negro's drinking, I nevor i heard of his being addicted to drink before tho Ma jor got him, and I challenge him to prove it. As for his rascality, ho purchased him os a rascal, and I also have his letter where he acknowledges he bought him as a runaway. This is the true history of tho case. I bought tho nogro in Richmond, Va., represented as having been bom free, and sold for a term of years for some misdemeanor. I purchased | him for one-third of his value under tho circum- ! stances —say $125. I sold my interest, for better j pr worse, to W. AY. Starke, for his draft for S2OO, 1 payable to my order in Savannah, with the condi- . lion of his ovorsecr's (J. M. AValkcr) roccpting for j the delivery of the negro at Mobley's Ponds—which j receipt I got, on the back of tho draft, when I sent the negro to his plantation. Tho history of tho case will prove to the public that Mr. S. bought my ; interest in the negro, knowing he was a rascal; for , I would not, nor did not give him any titles to the j negro, only selling and transferring tho original j j 'tle, or my interest in it, for the gross profit of $75, j w hic'b netted me sl7. I would add that tho draft J was payable to my order, at sight, in Savannah, and i( passed out of my hands, and was forwarded to Savannah for collection. Mr. S. was not there, agreeable to contract, to meet it, and it was held for his arrival—and, during the delay, the negro de camped, and he refused to pay it, and resorted to the advertisement alluded to* I sold my interest in the negro as howas —sold it for one-third of the real value under tho circumstances —represented him for what he was, and stated to him that I want ed no after-claps about him. I would give him no titles but my interest in the original—in short would take $75 profit, and he step in my shoes in tho I matter, as I was determined to get rid of it. oct 22 2 A. AVILSON. 02r* Vocal music.—Mr. BHRIVAL would in k form the citizens of Augusta, and his former pu s pits, that ho will form anothor class, in this city, on I Monday next, for tho purpose of giving instruc- I ’tion in A’OCAL MUSIC.
