Sea Island, against 53.817 bales Upland and 1,632 do. Sea Islauds at the same time last year. During the week our market has exhibited some vari ations iu prices. Our last weekly report closed with a firm market. On Friday there was a good enquiry, the sales amounting to 1.076 bales, at previous rates. On Saturday the sales were 521: on Monday COO; and Tues day forenoon 345. Up to this time the market had been quiet with a rather limited demand. At noon on Tues day, the telegraph announced the arrival of the Euro pa* and that the Liverpool market had declined an eighth of a penny in consequence of the exciting politi cal news from France; this news had the effect to sus peud operations in our market for the remainder of the day. On Wednesday there were some transactions at a decline of about |c.. but the market was again disturb ed by three davs later intelligence from Europe by the Baltic. The sales on Wednesday were but 253 bales. Thursday being Christmas day, there was no business done, and tliismoruiug there seems to be no disposition to operate in consequence of the want of full ad' ices— the Northern mail having failed tor four days, said to is be detained by ice iu the Potomac River. The market so much unsettled, that we are unablo lo give any quo tations. The sales of the week amount to 2,883 bales, p irticu- Urs as follows: 42 at 7J; 43 at 7j; 70 at7jj; 12; at 7]; 121 at 72; 172 at 7j{; 12 at 7 13-10; 170 at « 51.* at 8; 480 at 8j; 73at 8 3-10; 511 ntSj; 143 at 8 5-10; 395 at BK,8 K , and 8 bales choice at 9 cents. Flour. —Wo hear of sales of a small quantity of Baltimore at $4,87 j. The market is well supplied and there is a fair deraaud. Corn. —There has been a better demand for this arti cle during the past week than for several weeks pre vious. We hear of sales of 930 bushels, at prices not made known; 400 bushels prime white, at 75 ct.s. cash, aad 200 do. at 77 eta. Salt —The cargo noticed in our last as just arrived, consisting of 5,000 sacks, common Liverpool, has been suit! at 87 j, It is scarce, there being none now iu first bands. Molasses. —There have been no arrivals of Cuba within the week. The last cargo sale was at 20 cts. Hay. —There is very little doing in this article. We have heard of no large transactions, the demand being coutiued altogether to retail transactions. Exchange. —sterling 9$ prem. Domestic—the Banks are selling Biglit Chocks on all Northern cities at i cent pretn.; and purchasing sight to 5 day bills at je prem.; 30 day bills, j a Jc. dis.; 60 days LJ a ljjc. dis.; and 90 days 2j discount. Freights —We quote to Liverpool dull at 5-16 d. One ship is loading for Havre j c., and one vessel has been taken up for Glasgow at gd. for Cotton; to Boston. | for Cotton ; to Now York 516 for Cotton, $1 for Rice : to Philadelphia jj for Cotton. $1 for Rice ; to Baltimore 7-16th for Cotton ; tu Providence 7-16 for Cotton and $1 for Rice. CHARLESTON. Dec. 27.— ('otton.— The intei.option in the channels of communication, caused by the nou arrival of the mail, and the injury sustained to he tel egraphic wires, prompted buyers in a great me.i -uro to withdraw, and operations were partially su pended throughout Friday, Saturday and Monday la- . which resulted in a languid and depressed market. This agent was in successful operation on Tuesday, and fu.nUtied us with the unfavorable accounts brought over by the Kuropa, and subsequently those by the lialtir. when holders, yielding to circumstances they could i.ot con trol, met purchasers at very heavy sacrifices. During Tuesday and Wednesday the sales showed a good deal of irregularity in prices, but at tho close of business on the latter day. a decline of j a sc. was establi lied on the prices current at the highest point of the in irketof the previous week. Thursday was Christmas day aud nothing was done. The market opened on Friday with a tolerably fair denial! I, but holders were asking an advance on former transactions, predicated on the favorable turn that pri ceshad taken in New York at the lust advices from that cltv. but buyers refused to coin© to terms, and with drew, tho sales consequently were limited. The few transactions made indicated as low a range of prices as were previously submitted to, and the market as much unsettled as it was at that time. The position of tho market at tho close ol’ tho week, and the receipt last evening of rather unfavorable advices by the Canada, have determined us to withhold quotations for the pres ent, as we are firmly convinced that none that we could offer would give a true index to the state of the market. The sales since our last report may be estimated as fol lows, viz: Friday. GOO bales; Saturday, 357; Monday, 352; Tuesday, 5*11; Wednesday. 044; and Friday, 600— making an aggregate of 3,0.34 bales at the following particulars, viz:—l3 bales at 0, ;20 at ; i2at i;l< at 1 7j ;14 at 72; 51 at 7 \ ;84at 7$ ; 155 st ; 169 at 7j ; ] 172 at 7 15-10; 701 at 8; 325 at ;52a* 8 3-10; 533 at ; 31.3 at 8g ; 244 at ; and 25 bales ut B*c. Received this week 17.033 bales. Bacon.— Yery # little has been done in Bacon this week, aud our quotations for Hams and Shoulders must be considered nominal. Some 100 lihdtf. Sides have . been sold, part to arrive, at 9jc. Soft.—The receipts since our last reach 6000 sacks, the greater portion of whi ch bad been sold to arrive, ou terms not made public, and the balance was sold on , arrival at $1 per sack. Coffee. —There has been a good demand for Rio. and upwards of 1500 bags have changed hands at prices ranging from 8 to 9c. as in quality. Molasses. —Some GOO bbls. New Orleans Molasses, re ceived at the close of the provious week, were sold at 32 and 33 ; subsequently, howover, the market became depressed, iu consequence of the heavy accession to the stock—upwards of 1500 bbls. having been received this week—and prices declined to 30c., at which rate sales were effected yesterday, the market dosing with a | portion of the supply unsold. We have no transactions : to rep >rt in other descriptions. Freights.— Our rates both to Liverpool and Havre re main as previously quoted, viz: 5-lGthsand i-lOths for Cotton to the former; ] a lc. and $23 per 000 lbs. for ; Rice to the latter port. We quote to New York. Cotton, 5-lGthsand 25c. for transient vessels, and 75c. per tierce for Rice; to Boston the same rates prevail for Cotton, and Rice is shipped at $1 per tierce. Jntdliflcitff.
