What punishment, moreover is to fall unon a Virginia family which has barelv means of subsistence for its own members ? Ar§ these members bound to bend before this sump tuary edict, whether their means allow it or not f The ill-advised friends of the negro may depend upon it that such philanthropic measures will produce a reaction, sooner or later, here in the North. A Disgusting Exhibition at Chimborazo [t will lie remembered that we published a statement to the eff-ct that a negro woman living near Chimborazo had beendelivei ed of a litter of puppies. We now learn that these animals have human heads and canine bodies; they were original five in number. One lias died, two have been sold to a Yankee, for ex hibition, for one thousand dollar*-, and the wretched woman has rvfused an offer of five hundred dollars for the two which remain. The woman will be sent to the poor-house, and when she is sufficiently recovered she will be sent ta tbe penitentiary. Hanging would be far too slight a punishment for such an aband oned outcast as this creature must be. About ‘forty years ago, when pine trees were still growing on the north side of Maine street, where Twenty-fifth street, now runs, a negro Woman, named Sally Ham, was the mother of three creatures such as we have described afiove, but they all died soon after their birth. flttcbmoed Examine?.
