and handed subpwnas to be and appear lat a

and J. A. Christain, Chief of Police. The “ case
in which the United States is interested” is
supposed also to interest Mr. Blodgett,- the
Postmaster of Augusta, and to have reference
to the report of his having taken the onth of
office known ns the test, or iron-clad, oath—
despite the fact that he did, in tlie year of our
Lord, 1861, raise for, and command a company
in the Confederate service, known first as the
“ Blodgett Volunteers,” otherwise company I,
third regiment of Georgia volunteers, and after
wards as “ Blodgett’s Battery,” having been
transferred from infantry to artillery.

.Burglary. - -OnWednesday night the resi

street, opposite the Gas Works, was entered by
some thief or thieves in a very artistic manner,
A chair had been placed on the ground hoiienth
the wiudow of Mr. Malone’s bed room, by
means of which an entrance was effected. The
clothing of Mr. M. was taken, and on searching
about the premises yesterday morning it
was found under the house. Kerry thing had
beep taken from (lie pockets money, Mug,
book, papers, etc. This daring theft was very
adroitly accomplished, and evidences the Met
that there are spine, professional rogues jn the
city. The burglar left Hie chair on the premises
in the position wlierc he had used it.

The semi-official Provincial Correspondez, of
Berlin, of the evening of September, 4, says:
Before the recent visit of the Emperor Na

no apprehension. The hit ter lias since received
a trustworthy communication siibwing that the
visit merely arose from a' desire on the part, of
