Be Beautiful —ls you desire beauty you
should use Hagan's Magnolia Balm.
It gives a soft, refined, satln-llke texture
to the Complexion, removes Roughness,
Redness, Blotches, Sunburn, Tan, &e., and
adds a tinge of Pearly Bloom to the plainest
features. It brings the Bloom of Youth to
the fading cheek and changes the rustic
Country Girl Into a Fashionable City Belle.
In the use of the Magnolia Balm lies the
true secret of Beauty. No Lady need com
plain of her Complexion who will invest 75
cents in this delightful article.

We have watched the course of so many
distressed, emaciated aud forlorn dyspep

who have taken anew lease of life, and
gradually received vigor, strength, health
and the power of social pleasure from the

are not surprised at the testimonials daily
received,. If it is a pleasure to do good in

The Marietta people are making efforts

The Central Road will keep its half fare

Atlanta had a huge calico ball Friday
night. Homespun and plain cheap goods
were the toggery. Much festivities pre
vailed, and doubtless some young men were
sold with the delusion that after all it don’t
cost much to dress a wife. Remember, that
was not intended as a declaration of war
against the frills, flounces and furbelows of
dress parade.
Mr. W. J. C. Turney is associated with
Mr. Harp, in the Covington Examiner ,
which we are glad to learn will soon be en
larged.
The Atlanta Intelligencer says that in the
case of the United States vs. David A.
Walker, charged with embezzlement in the
Atlanta Post Office, the jury conld not
agree on a verdict. After being out all
Wednesday night, the Judge sent for the
jury Thursday morning at the opening of
court. The question being asked, the coun

ant consented that a juror should be with
drawn and a mistrial entered.

The Dalton Citizen says the State Road
is doing a heavy busiuess. Transferring at
this point heavy. The East Tennessee and
Georgia Road is feeding she State Road
with increased freight! 'Several new engines
for Georgia roads passed over it daring
the past week. Never before was there so
much machinery coming over these roads
as at present.
Within the last three days two printers

Mrs. Lamberth, one of the oldest and
most esteemed citizens of Rome, died on
Wednesday last.
The Covington Examiner, speaking of the
cotton crop in that section, represents the
current opinion that the yield will scarcely
reach a half crop, and that at least two
thirds of the crop is already gathered from
the Helds, and fully one-half has already
been put upon the market.. The receipts at
this point is something over 400 bales more
than the receipts of same date last year.

The Colorado Expedition—Return
of Colonel Poweli.—A Description of
tiie Country Explored, &c.— Chicago,
September 21.—Colonel J. W. Powell, the
Colorado explorer, returned to the city
yesterday, having successfully traveled
the entire grand canon from Green river,
the point where the Colorado debouches
into the open plaiu In the Territory of
Arizona. From the point where Colouel
Powell’s last letter was written the expedi
tion descended about 400 miles betweeu
walls almost vertical, ranging from 500 to
1,500 feet in height, the exterior of the
canon being from 2,500 to 4,000 feet above
the bed of the river. More than 200 water
falls and cascades, emptying themselves
over the Walls of the canon into the main
river, were in this _ distance presenting
almost every variety of natural scenery.—
The geological formation of the canon con
sists, principally, in limestone aud sand
stone. Granite was found ouly at three
places and in limited amount. No dis
coveries of precious metals were made, and
no indications of gold or silver found iu
the bed of the river. One section of the
canon was found to consist in very fine and
beautifully polished marble, whici is at
present entirely inaccessible. The country
traversed is barren beyond description, and
is pronounced by Colonel Powell not sus
ceptible of cultivation even by irrigation.
Railroad to be Finished— The Blue
Ridge Railroad Company, it is stated, have
undertaken the construction and comple
tion of all the unfinished work of the Knox
ville and Charleston Railroad, betweeu
Knoxville and the State line, and are to
guarantee the payment of the interest on
the bonds drawn and used by the Knox
ville and Charleston Railroad. In consid
eration Qf this arrangement the Knoxville
and Charleston Company are to mortgage
to the Blue Ridge Railroad Company in
South Carolina their entire road, including
rolling stock, &c., subject, however, to
the prior lien of the State of Tennessee.
The negotiations which led to this result
were concluded and ratified on Mouday
last, at a meeting of the stockholders of the
fqrmer road, in the city of Knoxville.
Remarkable Longevity. —The St. Louis
(Mo.) Republican notices the death of a veij

In that State. He was born on Pedee riv
er, South Carolina, August 26, 1769, and
was, consequently, over one hundred and
ten years of age at the time of his death.
He served throughout the war of the Rev
olution as one of “ Marion’s Mep,” and sos
over forty years was a Minister of the Bap
tist denomination. Although he bad been
unable to walk during the past three years,
he retained his sight, hearing and intellect

my eough became lees severe—the soreness of my

djjfwater. Worm Candy.
As this is really a specific for Worms, and the best
and most palatable form to give to children, it is not
surprising that It is fast taking the place of all other
preparations for worms—it being perfectly tasteless,
ana any child will take It.
Meters. James Ruddle <6 Cos. :
Gentlemen : It gives me great pleasure to say,
after using all the other worm remedies known to me,
with but partial success to my children, I was advised
to try Dr. T. A. Hurley’s, and since using it my chil
dren hav* become well and healthy. The children
would eat it all the time, It is so pleasant, if we would
let them. I believe it is one of the best and safest
remedies known, and as such, recommend it to one
and all. JAS. W. TRAVIS.
