WEDNEBDAY MORNING. APRIL 27, ’7O
The Iron works in. Komb.—Alluding
to the capacity and production of the ex
tensive < machine shops and foundry of
Messrs. Nobles & MCDgllodl, marl the adja
cent rolling mill and nail factory, the Rome
Courier says:
There are eleven fcffcam engines in con
stant operation, two or which are 70 and
65-horse power, ami the remainder of less
capacity, but all employed In running the
various kinds of* first class machinery be
longing to the estabHsbnteift
They are now>TuWiTnff out about 50 car
wheels and 20 axles a day, and have de
mands for more than they can supply.—
Next week they will put in operation a
large machine capable of cutting three tons
of railroad spikes per day.
These iron works are doing more to
wards building up the substantial interests
of Rome than half of all the other capital
employed In the city, and we rejoice to
learn that the investment is a profitable
one.
The .(Etna Iron Works, near Pryor’s Sta
tion, will soon be put in operation with a
cash capital of $50,000, and a capacity to
make 50 tons of pig iron per week. This
is about the amount the Cornwall Works
now turn out. We hope iron works will
rapidly increase in this section until Rome
becomes what it ought-to be»-the Pitts
burg of the South.
Failure of the Chareston Truck
Farms. —The editor of the' Charleston
Courier has recently* 1 interviewed ” a num
ber of the truck farmers near that city, and
after a detailed account of the backward
and unpromising aspect of the vegetable
products there produced for home con
sumption and shipment to Northern mar
kets, makes the following summary:
From these facts it m,ay be seen that the
pea crop is almost an entire failure. Very
few persons have been enabled to ship any,
and the few shipments which have already
taken place will embrace almost the entire
trade. Os the potato crop, it may be said
that the yield will probably be about one
fourth less than thatof.last year, but better
prices are expected, and upon the whole the
farmer will probably be better paid for ids
labor. Last year so great was the crop
that, the vegetable became a drug upon the
market. One enterprising farmer, who
boasted of his early potatoes, sent a con
signment to New York, and on calling for
his factor’s account found himself sl2 in
debt, so low were the prices.
Mr. Gordon, who lives fourteen miles
southeast of Holly Springs, Miss., is one of
twenty-seven brothers, arl of whom were
born of the same father and mother. Mr.
G. is the only one of the twenty-seven
brothers living,, but fao@fc,.©r all of them
were raised to the age o£ maturity, and
several reached the number qt days allotted
to men—three score and ten years. Mr.
Gordon is upward of 70 years of age. The
old North State claims these twenty-seven
brothers.

FROM PAIN,
Yet the pursuit and yet the pleasure’s vain,
If we are not “ quite well ” we shun the best
Concert or Soiree, < >pera or Feast,
Yes, give up all and quickly go to rest—
Some stronger power chains us to our beds,
Mashing our worldly hopes. With aching heads
And trembling limbs, we know that we ate ill;
Our thinking power eludes our sickly will,
And makes us with reflective trouble feel
llow vain is man. A Tonic that will heat
Is near at hand, offering to restore
You to the world—its pleasures yet once more,
Take it at once, mind not your neighbor’s titters,

No. 11 Main street, Norfolk, Va., Septemlxr 16,1869.
Dr, Lawrence—Dear Sir: Yonr Koskoo
has worked wonders in my family. My daugh
ter has been a sufferer from Serdßil.-i since
childhood. She lost tbii ty-ouejMeaea-or bone
from her ankle, several from her arm, besides
having ulcers in several parts of the body.—
Whilst in this condition she commenced taking
your Koskoo— it acted like a charm on her ; un
der its use the ulcers gradually healed, and her
general health greatly improved. It certainly
saved, her much suffering, and perhaps her life.
1 iigard Koskoo a specific for all scrofulous
affections. Your Koskoo also cured my wife
of dyspepsia, (rotn which she suffered greatly.
She is now in belter health than she has been in
jive years. >
With the highest, regards,
1 am gratefully yonre, <fec. v
A. W- MILLS.
Koskoo is endorsed by the best physicians
everywhere. Read the following from Dr.
Tillery, a successful practitioner of many years
standing in the Old North State:
Rocky Mount, Kdgoconab Vo., (
September 10, 1869. \
Dr. J.J. Lawrence— Deir Bir: I have used
your Concentrated Fluid Extract of Koskoo in
my practice with the happiest results. I find it
to ben powerful Liver Invigorator , Blood Pu
rifier, and Nervous Tonic. Id all diseases of
the Liver, Scrolnlons, Syphilitic and Nervous
Affections, it is a remedy of immense value ;
in fact, in almost every variety of Chronic
Diseases its nse is indicated. Hoping you
may meet with the success which you deserve
ns a manufacturer of reliable medicines, I am,
sir, with much reepect,
Your obedient servaut,
R. C. TILLERY, M. I).
Koskoo Cures Chronic Rheumatism.
Norfolk, Va., September 7, 1860.
Dr. J. J, LAWRENCE-Dear Sir: My son has
received so much benefit from your wonderful
Koskoq that I cannot rcirain from expressing
my gratitude. I had tried almost everything
without benefit. 1 believe, in all sincerity, that
your Rosboo is an infallible remedy for the
disease from which he has suffered, and, so far
as I can learn, has never failed. If you only
knew the immense amount of suffering that ho
has undergone, then you could conceive the
value of such a remedy as Koskoo —that sorely
corks. The great amount of good it is now
doing among us is inestimable.
With much gratitude,
I am, respectfully, yonrs, Ac..,
Mrs. M. E. A. NELSON.
FROM DR. LLOYD, A PHYSICIAN OF LARGE
PRACTICE.
Great Bridge, Va., October 8,1869.
J. J. Lawrenos, M. D. —Dear Sir : I cheer
fully endorse your Koskoo as being a most
valuable preparation. Upon examination of
the formula, I find each ingredient highly ex
tolled by our best’and most progressive clini
cal investigators. I have tested itseffects in
my own practice, and have no hesitation in
recommending it. In my opinion, it is the best
compopnd of its class ever put before the pub
lic—exceeding by for all the various compounds
of Sarsaparilla, <fcc., ever invented. It is a de
cided Nerve Tonic, and Invigorator of the ani
mal forces, aiding digestion aud assimilation,
and thereby producing healthy blood, which
should be the basis of treatment in all chronic
diseases. Hoping yon will yeap the reward
you deserve from the public as a benefactor,
I am, sir, yours truly,
CHARLES LLOYD.
After reading the above high recommenda
tion, Invalids cannot reasonably hesitate to
give the KOSKOO a trial.

The Life is the Blood.”
From it we derive our strength, beauty

existence happy. When this source is corrupt

shapes, prominent among which is
SCROFULA.
This is a taint or infection of the human or
