Representative Fitzpatrick is reported as
seriously ill nt his residence in Macon.
Mr. \V. U. Dawson, a commission mer
chant of Savannah, died on Wednesday.
The murderers of the colored man Banks,
near Monticello, have been arrested and
lodged in jail.
Mr. James A. Wade, Agent of Georgia
Railroad at Madison, is seriously ill from
affection of the brain.
The grand jury of Bartow county present
the jail as entirely unfit for the purpose for
which it was intended, and a disgrace to
the county.
A hack line has been established between
Stilesboro and Van Wert., to run in con
nection with the triins on the Gartersville
ami Van Wert Railroad.
It is reported that Wni. 11. Bly, a promi
nent farmer in Greene county, had his gin
house burned on the 24th inst., involving
considerable loss; supposed to be the work
of an incendiary.
Thomas Dillon, while engaged in paint
ing the interior of St. John’s (Episcopal)
Church, Savannah, on Tuesday morning,
fell from the scaffolding and was badly in
jured.
There is quite a muss in the happy fami
ly of “ Rads ”at Cartersvtlle. Postmaster
Blacker, in the last Express, denounces
Judge Parrott as an infamous liar and ma
licious slanderer. “ Pistols and coffee for
two.”
The Germans of Savannah are making
preparations for a grand ball, to come off
next week, the proceeds of which will be
applied to the relief of wounded German
soldiers and the widows and orphans made
by the gigantic conflict now going on in
Europe.
A negro girl, servant of Prof. Woodffln,
at Penfleld, was shot and killed on Monday
night by her Lothario, David McWhorter.
The coroner’s jury report a verdict to this
effect, hut could not determine whether the
shooting was done accidentally or on pur
pose. The®t)oy is still at lafge, having
made his escape to the woods.
In Savannah, between the hours of ten
o’clock Tuesday night and six o’clock
Wednesday morning, the store of Mr. H.
G. Ruwe, on Market square, was entered
by expert thieves, and some fifty dollars,
which Mr. R. had left in the drawer, to
gether with several boxes of the finest ci
gars in the establishment, carried away.
Bullock Trying to Provoke a Con
flict. —Wo learn that Ballock has sent a
commission to a negro in Bryant county,
countersigned by General Terry, authoriz
ing the negro to supersede the sheriff in his
office, and directing the ordinary of the
county to administer the oath of office to
the negro appointee, which the ordinary
has refused to do.
We have heard nothing of the pretexts
upon which Bullock seeks to remove the
sheriff from office. Whatever they be, there
can be no justification or excuse for the
outrageous and wanton insult which he
offers to the'good people of Bryant county,
and which can only be accounted for upon
the supposition that it is designed to ex
asperate and provoke violence for political
effect.— Savannah News.
Loss of the Brig H. C. Brooks.— The
brig H. O. Brooks, Captain Shea, sailed from
Charleston on Sunday, the 18th inst., with
a cargo of lumber, for Providence, R. I.—
On Monday, the 19. h inst., latitude 32,
longitude 78, experienced a heavy northeast
gale, in which she sprung a leak. Keeping
all hands at the pumps, the leak kept steadi
ly gaining and the vessel settled down.—
On Tuesday made a sail to leeward,
which proved to be the schooner Zeta Psi,
from Charleston for Philadelphia. The
Brooks having become waterlogged and
unmanageable, the crew were compelled to
abandon her and were kindly received on
board the schooner Zeta Psi, which vessel
carried all hands safely ty) Charleston late
Tuesday night. During the blow, three
seamen attached to the brig were washed
overboard, but were fortunately rescued.—
There was nothing saved from her.

THE SIMPLEST, STRONGEST and BEST TIE IN USE, and is the only Tie which

IMPORTANT CERTIFICATES TO BUYERS OF COTTON TIES.
John T. Butler, Esq.: New Orleans, May 18, 1867.
Sir: We, the undersigned, having been engaged for a number of years m the business of
compressing Cotton coming to this market, cheerfully take this opportunity of stating, for the
benefit of Merchants, Planters and the public in general, that In our opinion the Butler Buckle
Cotton Tie should have preference over all other Cotton Ties, as being the strongest, simplest
and easiest of application, and know that we can compress a bale of Cotton put up with this
Tie with more facility and expedition than with any other Tie now in use.
The Buckles which are attached to other Ties are weak in their construction, and very in
secure, and we have been compelled iff many instances, and at our own expeuse, to use the
Butler Buckles with which to replace the others.
