■k Planters’ Hotel Skylight, )
Ga., November 6teenth. J
■ -trr Eijgtdr : I’ve had a private in-
with the Davenport Brothers, and
■Tthem liecu -uitrodnoerl to the spirits.—
” Brotln a beinjtp gpne, and fcfic injune
“ sdcrecy removed, I have 410 heslta
compunction whatevorjn giving to
A bile the modus operands of their
. JTand the revelations made by the
spirits.
For the benefit of those who do not be
lieve their feats striking, I would say, go
into the “cabinet” with them next oppor
tunity, and i ’ they are not convinced, they
can enter in the next Fair for special pre
miums under the head of “ A-head of the
times,” and come out winners.
But to explain : I was securely tied to
each of the Brothers, and in a few minutes
I was approached by the spirits; a hand
passed over my face; then one shook hands
with me; then five hands held me ; a thrill,
a shudder, a shake passed through me, as
was whispered in my ear with a voice I can
only liken unto that which Shakspeare
must have imagined for Mr. Hamlet’s fa
ther :
“ Are you a voter ?”
“ Sez I, you bet.”
“ Sez he, you better ?”
“ Why.”
“Because—now—more than ever, it be
hooves everybody—who has any interest in
the affairs of the city—to
“ What?”
“ ISF’Register—and vote!!!!”
(Then the spirits attempted to curl my
hair—and failed—one of ’em complained
of running a splinter in his finger—but it
was only a hair. Sez he, “You bed me
th-hair?” “Seal, ‘ Yes, and if my hands
were loose I’d punch yon under the hr ir.”
Then a voice whispered in my ear, say
ing: “Tell the colored men if they would
wish to better themselves to vote the Demo
cratic ticket, for the day is fast approach
ing when to be a Democrat will be a guar
antee that—your head’s level.”
Now for the modus operaruli. I hev no
hesitation in saying and exposing to the
world that the agency—the means—the
mechanism or whatever else you can im
agine by which the results are produced is
as clear to me—now —as it was at first.—
I knew uothiug of it then—l know less
now. Yours, registered,
Green Goggles.
