Death of Gen. Hiram Walbridge.—
The New York papers, of Wednesday, an
nounce the death in that city, on Tnesday,
the 9th instant, of Gen. Hiram Walbridge,
of the firm of Hem in D. Walbridge * Cos.,
and President of the Mediterranean and
Oriental Steam Navigation Company. Mr.
Walbridge was well known among the
business men of New York, having taken
a prominent part in the discussion of po
litical questions affecting commerce. He
was born at Ithaca, New York, was edu
cated at the Ohio University, and, while a
resident of Ohio, obtained in the militia of
that State the title of General, by which he
was familiarly known. He represented the
city of New York In Congress from 1853 to
1855, and was again unsuccessfully a can
didate in 1862.
A MOST DELIGHTFUL DESSERT MAY

it is vouched for by ladies of the highest re
spectability, who append their names to their
statements. The Company state at fifty

for many of them. We consider Mr. Rand’s
