be tried by military commission. The civil

j the State of Missouri, there are many lots,
tracts, picees, and parcels of land which are
confirmed by the act of Congress of June
the thirteenth, eighteen hundred and twelve,
on the ground of inhabitation, possession,
nr cultivation of the sam: prior to December
i the twentieth, eighteen hundred and three,

in consequence of the death of the ancient
witnesses, who knew the facts of said in

shot dead to-day, by General Cole,
late of tin - Cavalry service, who alleged
that while he was in the army, lliseock
had raped his w ife.
The Convention adjourned in respect
to Hiseock.

morning train, and was welcomed at
the depot by a large concourse ol white
and colored citizens. The .Mayor, on
i his arrival at the hotel, extended a
cot dial greeting, in appropriate remarks
to which Judge Chase responded,
thanking him foi the hospitality ex
tended, and saying that he was glad
the time had come when all stood on

law, irrespective of color or previous
condition. His speech was received
with enthusiastic applause.
