I —Cotton.—Wo left Abe I nland market on Thursday last, when we j closed our Inquires, with a decided improvement | tn prices, owing to the. recent favorable advices from the. other side, and in a very buoyant state, even at the heavy advance quote J in our report of j the following morning. Friday was Christmas, nml nothing was dune; but there was a good de jnand for the article on Saturday last, and former prices were not only fully sustained, but at the •close of the day it was generally conceded that 1 holders had obtained more stringent terms. On j Monday there was also a fair attendance ofbuy •ers and as the day advanced most classifications i were up an Jr. above tlie rat es current at the close ■ -of the last week: on Tuesday, however, the traits actions fell oil, but the prices of the preceding day j were most generally sustained. At the date of our latest advices font < olmubiis, the ri\er bad fallen some 18 inches and was still fast receding. This circumstance in connection with the absence of a number of boats past due, renders it more than probable that the j rise was but temporary', and the river again too low for boats to run. The season now. however, is so far advanced that vve may very soon look for uninterrupted navigatioti. The sales of cotton during the past week amount to about lOOU bales, at the following figures, mid dling. HI; good molding. Hi a9; middling fair, 9i; ' fair. 9ic. We left the Cotton market on ’Tuesday last in a , position of great firmness, there being but a light stock offering, and holders generally claiming | even higher rates than cur figures, which vv e then advanced an i of a cent. On Wednesday, the j claims of holders being met by purchasers to some j extent, there vv.-.s again an increase ul business, and fully 6000 bales changed hands, which so re duced the stock nu sale that, notwithstanding the continuance of a good enquiry, the sales on Tluirs- | day were restricted to some 2500 bales, \ester i day was Christmas, hut there was, nevertheless, I some inquiry for Cotton in the early part ot the , day, and some considerable business would proba bly have been done, had not the market been al most entirely bare of stock on sale. As it was vve could only learn of some 900 bales having been sold, making for the past three day's 9100 bales, a portion ot winch has been taken for England and the Continent, but the greater part fur our Northern ports. The total sales of the week are 24,400 bales. As regards prices vve find it neces sary again to advance onr quotations fully an 1 ot a cent on all qualities below Hood Fair, the mar i ket closing with great firmness, and with little or ! uu stuck, except wli it is held under limits.
