Rl'Port for jan. I. —The sales to day amount
to 6. 00 or 7000 bales, the greater part being taken
by speculators. Prices continue firmly supported.
January 2.—'Fhe market to-day has been firm
and steady; the sales are estimated at 10,000 bales,
principally on speculation. Prices are firm; tae
chief part of the Colton sold was American.

Havre, Dec. 7— cottons. —Our market has,
dining the past wceK, been laboring under ilie un
favorable influence of lie* advices from the United
States, rn-eived by tie- Britannia steamer of the
lutii u!t ; the demand has ag On been of a very re
stricted nature and transactions iiave been meiely
from baud to mouth. A decline bus been estab
lished, which may be written ar fully f 2 o i all
American Cottons, and s* verui lots, deliverable in
January and February, have even been sold . r. f 3
under liie previous rates.
Havre, Dec. 15. Co'tnns. —From the down
ward tendency exhibited in’our market at the date
of our previous rejior:, vve were far from antici
pating the complete reaction that has since taken
place, f'ir although the advices from the 1 nitetl
.Slates Drought by the steamer of the IC:h all. had
been favorably interpreted in Liverpool, and cre
ated a speculative feeling there, a contrary ed'-ct
was pr duet-d here, and prices experienced a con
ridem; ddine. Within the past, week, how
ever, th.ny a .ve assumed quite a difierent aspect,
for the accounts daily received from (he <>lh<*r-ide
of the. channel have borne (be slump of such great
activity and improvement in business, as could
not fail to excite buyers to come forward. The
demand has therefore been characieried by a con
siderable degree of animation, which has been
gradually increasing, and lias led to an advance
of f7 to I*3on ail American Co:tons. But although
the transactions have been vety extensive, our
stock has nut been materially reduced, speculators
having been the principal operators, and directed
their attention chiefly to cargoes for delivery.
Havre, Dec. 23 — Cotton. —Up to the ciose of
lasi week, our market was characterised by con
siderable activity in the transactions, but mdre es
pecially on Wednesday, when I lit*, accounts re- j
reived from Liverpool gave an extraordinary im- :
pulse to speculation, and 7UJ?) bales Cotton filing- i
ed hands. The sales were chiefly in cargoes to ai- I
rive, and deliverable up to the end of next .March,
and such was the spirit displayed in the buying, i
that prices rapidly advanced 15. on our proceeding ;
quotations. Since the commencement of this week, ;
however, the demand lias become very restricted, I
the intelligence from England, where symptoms of j
a reaction had begun to manifest themselves, has I
created a. corresponding effect here, and after the :
considerable operations that have taken place, this
might have been anticipated. After a long lapse
of time, our stock, which was reduced to 7000
hales, re. eived an accession by the successive im
ports within tiie last two days, pari of which had
been sold previous to arrival, and is now in the
hands* of speculators.
“Havre, Dec. 31. Cotton. —From the favor- :
able tenor of ihe advices of 4th instant, brought by ;
the New York packet ship Baltimore, a revival in j
I lie transactions would probably have occurred;
hut owing to the dull character of the accounts
from Liv< rpool, onr market up to the ciose of the
past week was very depressed, and prices under
went a decline of 2 to 3;' on previous quotations
Since the opening of the pres-nt week, however,
buyers iiave come forward with less reluctance, the
demand lias become more and more animated, and
yesterday, ow ing to the intelligence from the otn
er side of the channel, a fresh impulse was given
to Ihe market, large transactions took place, and
prices advanced 2 to 3f thus recovering the ground
Xiioy i ad previously lost.

C:1 ARLESTON, Jan. 30. Cotton.— Our re
port oftho 23d inst., left the market in a very
firm, although at the same time comparatively
quiet state owing to the position which holders
had assumed illative to prices. On Saturday
last the sales were confined to some 1000 hales,
cud the quotations of that morning were lullv |
sustained. Monday was :« quiet day, as the sales
did not reach 700 bales, hut lot mer prices were j
fully sustained; on Tuesday, however, a good i
enquiry prevailed, and during the day upwards
of 2800 bales were sold, an 1 as it was generally I
believed at the outside prices of Saturday. On
Wednesday about 10(10 hales wore taken at the
current rates of the preceding day. The tele
graphic accounts per the steamer Hi hern a were
received on Thursday, but dealers seemed dis
posed to wait the full development of these ad
vices, and tho sales were consequently limited to
800 hales, at the advance of Jc pi r lb. Yester
day the private advices came through, and short
ly after the delivery of the letters, an active de
mand sprung up, whic h resulted in the sale du
ring the day of fully *IOOO bales, at an advance
variously estimated from i to Jc. above the prices
current at the opening of the week; so unsettled,
however, was the market at the close of business
that we found it .mpossible to givequotalions, and
would therefore relcr to actual sales. The re
ceipts during the week comprise 12.800 bales, and
the pales in the same time reach 10,700 bales. a»

1184 bales at 12. It will be seen on reference to i
our table, that there is an excess of over 46.000
bags, as compared with the receipts of the pre
vious year. The market for L.mg Colton has
