Our last report left the Cotton market in a very
unsettled and excited state, consequent upon the
receipt, on Friday, of advices a lew days later
from Live; ml, v i.i Savannah, reporting a mate

this i«ar.i--;. i- soiling in a large business, and a
consider . nie enhancement of price*, tedders at the
close claiming still higher rates than our quota

Saturday the increased demands of holders pre
vented any business of much importance, and il e
sales vv re restricted to some 2.00>) hales at lull
prices,'hough there could not he said to he any set

sim iar discrepancy between die views ot buyers
and sellers, and only a few lots were sold in the
early part of the day. amounting in all to some 990
bales, but in the afternoon the ship Themis arriv
ed from Liverpool, with dates from that city to the
13th Dec., being seven days later than those re
ceived on Friday last by the ship Aberdeen via
Savannah. The advices by this arrival, in re,-
C&rd to Cotton, proved to be of the most interest
ing and exciting character. Since receipt of the s c
advice* our market has been entirely unsettled,
av! Uiv difficult to define it* position. Before the
news was generally known, some parcels were
purchased at very fall prices, though without any
material advance, and subsequently, as parties he
came acquainted vviih the character of the ad
vices, an advance of i a 2 of a cent is sail to have,
been paid upon previous asking rates. The t->uil
