NEW YORK, Jan. 30,8 p m.—The stock mar- j
kel to-day was not active, with an upward ten- i
dency in prices.
The flour market is less active—sales small |
Generally wilt command §6, 87i to $6,83J; some
w ill not lake less than $7 Southern brands ;s(j,so
to §6,74 and $6,874, according io quality. The {
demand is not so active, but prices cannot.be said
to have receded.
There is slid an active inquiry for grain, with
■ales of 6.000 bushels prime Genesee wheat
at 152 to 153 cents per bushel. Corn is in active
request—sales of nearly or quite 100.000 bushels
at 99 to 102 and it's cts; some are holding very
choice lots at HO cents per bushel. The above
sales have mostly been made > arrive. Sales of
oats at 49 and 50 cents per bushel, rye 95 to 100
cents.
Whisky lias advanced to 254 cents per gallon,
and firm. The cotton market continues firm at
the advanced prices.
There is a fair,demand for provisions, and prices
firm, with a tendency upwards.
Nothing new to notice in groceries.
The weather to day was cold and disagreeble.
No local inielligence of moment. No other ,
foreign arrivals.

certainty about lire steamer's news suspending I
business.
Sugar.- The storm has prevented any operations.
Molasses —Sales of a few hhls at 26 a 264 c.
Flour. —Sales 907 bids mixed lot, fine, common
and middlings, at 4 00. and 15 < fine at 4 73.
Pork. Prices still tending upward. Sales 150
hols Mess §l3 50, and a few small lots at same fig- !
ure. Holders now claim §l4.
Lard. —Sales 190 krgs at Tie, and 15 bbls from j
Levee,strictly prime, at. 71c.
Whisky. Prices still better—so bids sold at 18}
cts., and 50 and 48 ai2o. Holders asking from J 9
to 20. *
Freights. —Heavy. Cotton shipping to Liver-

an advance of full in. Our streets are daily crowd
ed with wagons from the up country, so much so,
that it is with difficulty one may cross them. We
