FOR DYSPEPTICS.
THESE BITTERS are purely a vegetable
compound, ami are offered to the pub
lic frc tn a principle of benevolence, under the tini
est conviction that they will be found a sate and
sovereign remedy for Dyspepsia. I hey bate been
triumphantly tested not only by some of the most
respectable families in the State, who ha\ e furnish
ed ample testimony as to their decided excellence,
but also by the proprietor, who, lor ten years, sut
fered all the gloom incident to that distressing dis
ease. They possess the peculiar excellence denied
t, most other Bitters, of not proving injurious by
continued use. They contain not a single delete
r ous ingredient, and, as seen from the directions
which accompany each hollie, may be given with
entire safety to an infant in the month
If the Colleton is taken regularly and persever
ingly,( which is highly important in stubborn cases,)
they will, soon alter the use of a few bottles, be
found tc act on the system like a charm—imparting
vigor to the stomach, bracing the nerves, clean.—
ing the liver, promoting digestion, increasing the
appetite, strengthening the chest and voice, reliev
ing pains, cramps, and stitches in the breast. I hey
are also most excel lent for cholera morbus, habitual
constipation,sea-sickness, nausea, proceeding from
whatever cause. In cases ol general debiaty. it
has proved one of the best remedies, and is there
fore highly recommended to elderly people, literary
gentlemen, students, and others of sedentary habits.
Taken in small doses frequently through the day,
they have checked the most violent diarrhoea, and
likewise been administered with the happiestelfect
n cholera infantum.
In all the foregoing complaints, these Bitters will
he found effectual if persisted in, and taken accord
ing to the directions which accompany each bottle.
And although it lias been testified by several that
they are excellent in many others, yet in none other
than those above enumerated, is t lie proprietor will
ing to vouch for their efficacy. They were prima
rily and solely intended to cure Dyspepsia.
The Colleton Bitters have been eight years be
fore the public; and in consequence of the increas
ing demand fur this valuable medicine, the proprie
tor has entered largely into the business—bottles
are procured having “Colleton Bitters”moulded in
them—they are also numbered, sealed and stamp
ed with an appropriate motto. Price s I per bottle.

tertain the most favorable opinion. Several of my
personal friends and acquaintances, long afflicted
with Dyspefwia, have assured me that they have
found these Bitters better than any oilier medicine
/ they ever tried, for that distressing disease. Audi
take the pleasure, further to state that I have wit
nessed the excellency of these Billers, in nan da,
«ick-headache, and bowel complaint; inthisZast
particular, I have seen the Colleton repeatedly and
successfully tested among the children of my own
huuse-hold. No family ought to be without this in
valuable medicine.

AND
MAGNETIC FETID.
THIS remarkable invention, which has received the
almost universal approbation of the medical pro
fession of Great Britain, comprises an entirety new ap
plication of Galvanism, as a remedial agent, by means of
which the ordinary Galvanic Ba. teries, Electric uad -Mag
netic Machines, &c., are entirely dispensed with, and the
mysterious powers of Galvanism applied without any
of the objections which are insuperable from the gene
ral mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irregu
lar intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the -Ma
chine. I ', has been pronounced, af.er a fair and impartial
trial, to be decidedly injurious, and it was to remedy
this radical defect, that this new application was pro
jected, which after unceasing toil and perseverance, lias
been brought to its present state of perlecliou. The
Galvanic Kings answer at! the purposes of the most
expensive Machines, and in many other respects are
more $ Are and certain in accomplishing the desired
•tfect.
Ttie Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in ai l
DISORDERS WHICH ARISE I ROM AS’ ENFEEBLED OR US- j
HEATHY STATE OF THE NERVOUS OR VITAL SYSTEM, and
these complaints are among the most p ainful and uni
versal to which we are subject. They arise, w ithoutex
feption. from one simple cause—a derangement of the ;
Nervous system—audit was in these cases that other (
** remedies” having so often failed, a new agent »\ as
greatly needed, wiiich it is confidently believed, has
beerr found in the proper and judicious application of
Galvanism.
The Galvanic Rings have been used with cntiresuc
«*ss in all cases of Rheumatism, acute or chronic, ap
plyingtothe bead, face or limbs : Goer, Tic-Dot orkux
Toothache, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nervous or .Sick
Headache, Indigestion, Paralyses. Palsy, Epilepsy,
Fits, Cramp, Palpitation c- the Heart, Appoplf-xy,
Rti ffness f Joints. Spinal Complaints, Kumbago, i
Neuralgia, Nervous Trf.mors, Dizziness of the
Head, Pains in the Chest andSidf.. General Debili
ty, Deficiency of Nervous and Physical Energy,
and all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed
Dyspepsia, which is simply a nervous derangement of
the digestive organs, they have been found equally suc
cessful. Their extraordinary effects upon the system
must be witnessed to be believed, and as a certain pre
ventive for the preceding complaints they are equal
ly recommended. The Rings are of different prices,
being made of all sizes, and of various ornamental pat
terns, and can be w orn by the mostdelicatc female without
the slightest inconvenience. In fact the sensation is
rather agreeable than otherwise.
The Galvanic Belts, IJracelets, Rands,
barters, Necklaces, Arc.
In come cases of a very severe character and of long
standing, the power as applied by the Galvanic Rings
i« not sufficient to arre-tthe progress of disease and ulti
mately to restore health. The i mproved modification in
the Galvan c Belts, Bracelets, 4cc., entirely reme
dies this objection ; any degree of power that is required
«an readily be obtained, and no complaint which the
mysterious agent of Galvanism can effect will fail to be
permanently relieved. These articles are adapted to the
waist, arms, wrists, limbs, ancles or any part of ihe body
with perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces
are used with greater benefit in ca.-es of Bronchitis or
affections of the throat generally ; also in cases of Ner
vous Deafness; and with almost uniform success as a
preventive for Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits, and similar
complaints.
Christie's Magnetic Fluid.
Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Kings.and
all their modifications. This composition has been pro
nounced by the French Chemists to be one of the most
extraordinary discoveries of modern science. It is be
lieved to possess a remarkable power of henderhig the
Nerves seusitive toGalvauic actioii, by these means
causing a circulation of the influence at the seat of dis
ease, and thus giving rapid and permanent relief. No
othercomposition in chemistry is known to produce the
same effector to impart a similar property to the nervous
•yttem by means of an outward local application. The
MAcnETtc Fluid contains nothing capable of the slight
est injury, its application is agreeable, ami it is harmless
in its action as it is benefiViul in its result. Full explana
tions and directions accompany it. The combined in
ventions are in every way perfectly harmless; they are
at prices within reach of all, ami tiie discoverer only re
quests a fair trial, as a test of their surprising efficacy
and permanent benefit.
Christie’s Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ters.
These articles form another valuable application of
the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They are an
important adjunct to the genuine Galvadic Riucsaiid
their modifications, acting upon the same principle, but
having this advantage of more local application. They
are confidently recommended us a valuable addition in
the speedy cure of Rheumatism, acute or chronic ; in
all nervous complaints, and as u positive remedy in cases
of Pain and Weak..ess i ( the Chest or Back, Pain in the
Side, in Asthma!ic Affections, and in Weakness or Op
pression of the Pulmonary Organs. In Spinal Com
plaints; their effects are of the most decided character,
and they have often been used vvilh complete success.
They are also of the greatest advantage in Pains and
Weak ness of the Breast, and arc highly recommended
for many of those complaints to which females are j
especially liable. As an effectual means for .'trongtiien
iag the system when debilitated with disease or other
causes ; as a certain aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a
Preventive for Colds and in all affections of the Chest
generally the Galvanic Strengthening Plaster will be
found of great and pernianenfadvantage. In a few words,
it embraces all the virtues of the best tonic preparation
with the important addition of the Galvanic influence,
which is neither impaired or exhausted, while the action
continue*.- Thee ■ article.- will be found entirely free
from those objections which arc a constaatsourccofcoiu
plaint with the ordinary Plastersiu common use.
o*The great celebrity and success of these articles,
have caused them to be counterfeited by unprincipled
persons. To provide against imposition. Dr. Christie
has but one authorized agent in each city of thel’nion.

JAYNE’S ALTERATIVE.
THIS valuable preparaiion combines all the
medicinal virtues of those articles, which
long experience has proved to possess the most safe
and efficient alterative and deobstruent properties,
for the cure of Scrofula King s Evil , 0 lute * iveiL
ings Ulcers; Scrofulous. Cancerous and Lndolenl
Tumours; Mercurial and Syphilitic Affections,
Rheumatism. Gout. Scurvey, Neuralgia or lie -

Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint, (Serious Diseases,
Tfnrpsieal Swellings, Constitutional Disorders and
diseases originating from a depraved or Impure
state of tiie Blood or oilier fluids of the body.
The proprietor of this Alterative would most re
spectfully assure the public that he has not offered
lids preparation to their notice without due reflec
tion. and close and rigid study, nor until after
twelve years’ experience had manifested its great
superiority over every other article of the kind, —
and he now recommends it with confidence, fully
believing that the above combination of medicine
will effectually eradicate from the system a class
of disease some of which have heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
lie lias prescribed it in almost every variety of
disease and with unparalleled success, especially
in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or Impuri
ty of the blood.
Cancer and Cancerous Tumors.
lie has used this preparation in upwards oftwen
ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu
mors, and in every case but one with perfect and
entire success.
Bronchocelc or Goitre, (Swelled Neck.)
He has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of
goitre, and it lias never failed in a single instance
to completely remove the disease. Nut a solitary
case of failure. Ail were cured.
The success lie has met with in erring broncho
cele and cancerous affections has convinced him
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be
removed with as much certainty as Fever and
Ague. He does not wish to lie understood as say
ing that they can be cured as soon as Fever and
Ague, but vvilh as much certainty; and further, that
he lias good reason fur believing that this prepara
tion will not only * ure these diseases when formed,
hut that it destroys the vims or poisonous principle
lurking in I lie system, from which that peculiar
class of diseases, as well as that of scrofula emanate.
Scrofula —King’s Evil.
This preparation lias been used in numerous cases
of Scrofula, King’s Evil, and scrofulous swellings,
and always with the most deci ed success.
Ski» Diseases.
He has prescribed it in a great variety of cutane
ous affections, and found it successful in curing salt
rheum, or letter, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew
and jaundiced skin. Am.
Dyspepsia and Fiver Complaint.
It has been used in numerous cases of liver com
plaint and Dyspepsia, and with the happiest effect.
T ic-Douloureux.
It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia,
j and in every case it was successful.
Rheumatism.
I This preparation-has been prescribed in a great
many cases of chronic rheurnaism, and in every
j case in which it was used until the system became
: affected by the medicine, the disease was removed-
Gout.
A number of cases of gout have been cured by
this preparation. In one ol these cases, the man
! had been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen
I years as to entirely disable him from business, and
j for five months immediately previous to his taking
! the Alterative he had been confined to his room; j
j but before he had finished the third bottle, he was i
i enabled to walkabout the streets and soon after re- j
; turned to his busine.-s, from which he had so long
been excluded by his afflictions.
Dropsical Swellings,
This medicine increases the powers of digestion,
'.excites the absorbents into healthy txereise, by
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all
, unnatural enlargements ure reduced. It imparts
I tone and vitality to the whole system, removing
; sick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering
pains and nervous affections.
In fact, in every case where tlie medicine has
been taken fur some time, no matter for wh_,t pur
pose, the general health of the patient has always
been improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
of the. most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer, broncbocele, and scrofula, have been cured by
tins medicine, that have ever been recorded; but
want of room in this sheet precludes their publica
tion at tills time.
CANCER.
An interesting case cured by Jayne's Alterative.
In tbe spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter
Stretch, of Salem, N. J. It was examined by many
Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous,
and besides bore ail the characteristic marks of
one. All provable means of removing it were used
without the slightest benefit, it continued to in
crease both in size and painfulness, until ail hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr.
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
all present a cancer of the most malignant charac
ter. In about three mouths,aftereuduringincredi
! ble sufferings, .-be was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again, Cihe remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it bad been fur several years before. In the
spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
breast, previous to its removal. ’Phis tnmor steadi
ly increased for several months, and became so
painful as to deprived her of rest. The glands un
der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
a hard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast. No operation could now
arrest the disease. Indeed her w hole body appear
ed to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. -Bhe was of a very scrofulous habit,
both her parents having died of Pulmonary con
sumption. The experiment was now made with
tills Alterative. It was at first given in small
doses, three times a day, and (he doses very gradu
ally, but steadily increased daily, as long as she
took it, which was about six months, and the skin
over and around the tumour was wet night and
morning with a strong solution of lodine and Hy
dricilate Potash. The tumour continued inc reas
ing in size for about six weeks, and was at times
very painful, when the pain suddenly ceased alto
gether, and l he tumour swelled out at the base, and
became soft, and then began to diminish, and con
tinued gradually decreasing until every vestige of
disease was removed. The tumour in her left
breast, and those in iier right axilla were also dis
persed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever
appeared afterwards; and hergeneral health, which
had been so bad for fourteen years as to make life a !
burthen, was effectually and permanently restored.
The proprietor is in possession of the diseased
breast, and those who choose may examine it. He
would also say that he could mention over a dozen
cases equally interesting, wherein his Alterative
has subdued cancer and cancerous tumours, but he
has not room hereto record them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J.,
had a goitrous tumour on the left side of her wind
pipe, as large as the half of an orange, w hich w as
cured by using this Alterative lor about four
months.
Miss R S , South Fourth-street, Phila
delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, which filled tbe entire spaee between tlie
chin and breast-bone, and extended around on
each side of her neck to behind her ears, and from
her ears to her shoulders, and produced awful de
formity. It commenced growing when she was
but five years old. and conlinued gradually to in
crease until she was nineteen, at which time she
commenced using this Alterative, which she took
for seven months, which entirely reduced the en
largement; and she has now as smooth and pretty
a neck as can be found. The proprietor is not at
liberty to give her name in print, but will refer per
sons to her.
