Colion.— During the | three first days of our commercial week, we could scar ely reporta market in cotton; no ooeratiuns ! h iving transpired in the usual fn e course of trade The sales in that time did not probably exceed 1000 bales, and those in small parcels, j under circumstances favorable to pirc a es. Principal holders, however, were firm at their former pretensions. On Saturday, an imperfect and disjoint* d outline of the Hibernia’s news, made up partly of vtrbal rumor, and partly fa m telegraphic despatch'silo Baltimore and Wasli ingt* n city, came to hand. The verbal report, bv passengers through from (he latter named city, was rather of a fa orahle character for cotton, a.ad was said to have derived its complexion from the current tone of feeling in the markets North rn 1 East, where the despatches had touched. A ft w sale* wserc made here on that day, under the j impulse of these favorable reports, at the fu.l I prices of factors for the three or four davs previ- ■ om--middlings at 10§ a 10|c. Some 1500 bales i ctianged hands during the dav, though buyers \ rather slacked off in their bids towards the close. Since Saturday tli-e mails have brought nothing additional, there having been two total failures of the mail in that time. The market is, therefore, nearly at a stand, though Late in the day yester day a demand sprung up, whether of a specula tive character or i>t ■ertviec, is not fully disclosed, which swelled the transactions to the amount of 1500 hales. The sales of Monday were about 1500 bales, which, with those previously noted, make an aggregate for the week of 5500 bales. The bu\ ing, as far as ascertained, has been about equally divided between foreign and domesticac count. We may remark of our quota’ions below, as they are nearly all outside figures, they repre sent the lowest terms upon which the principal factors would operate, while those which might be placed inside would exhibit casual sales, cither in small parcels, or under conditions inuring to the interest of buyers. The market is by r iU means settled. LIVERPOOL CLASSIFICATION. Good and fine, nominal. Good fair, nominal. In our last report we had occasion to remark that a dull market for several days, with pretty full re eeipis, had caused a considerable accumulation of •lock, the effect of which was a rather less degree of firmness in prices on Friday, though without any positive decline On Saturday it was quite confidently expected that the Hibernia’s accounts wonm reach herein some shape, hut the rna.il due on that day failed to arrive, and the absence of any further intelligence, either from Europe or the North, restricted transactions in our Cotton market to some SOU bales. Ou Sunday a telegraphic slip was received, announcing the arrival of the Hi i hernia at Boston oti the evening "f Saturday the j 2*hh instant, and furnishinga brief summary ofher advices, but being in the ii-nal indefinite and un satisfactory sha;>e of telegraphic de>p itches, it was found difficult to determine upon the true position of the Liverpool Cotton market, and all parties ( were waiting anxiously for their private corres i ponce nee. Monday passed w ithoul any further intelligence than that conveyed by telegraph.— I Meager as these accounts were they seemed to be i construed as favorable, and induced holders in claim very full prices, though few buyers came forward on Monday, it being expected that the mail of the succeeding day would bring through |t he letters, and only about 12t)0 bales were disposed of. Yesterday the mail failed beyond Charleston, leaving parties still without further advices, but j during the day buyers came forward more freely, and about 4500 bales were disposed of, making a t"tal of 6500 hales for the past three days, taken | principally for England, the North ami the Conti nent Prices also have become firmer, and the sales yesterday were fully tt(> to our quotations, which are continued as before, though holders generally ask an adv nee on these rate.-, and ap j pear indifferent about selling, until in possession i oi the European accounts in full. new-orleass classifica pion.
