Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry.
This medicine, prepared by a long experienced
and skilful physician, tested and approved by a
great number of intelligent, discriminating and
respectable persons in various parts of the country,
is now received and with entire confidence and
with great success by those afflicted with pulmo
nary complaints. It is also recommended as a val
uable medicine for other diseases, such as colds,
coughs, and particularly diseases whose tendency
is to consumption. Should its efficacy continue a-'
it has thus far been proved in various obstinate
cases, it w ill indeed be a most invaluable medicine.
Da. Bradford Knapp, of Crown Point, N. V ~
ina letter dated August 3d, 1845, says:— In the
course of ray practice in this vicinity 1 have tested
in some good degree the good qualities of It istur s
Balsam of Wild Cherry in Pulmonary Complaints,
and I now wish to procure a supply of the medi
cine.
[From the Boston Traveller.\
Balsam of Wild Cuchrt.—We publish to-day
a commendatory letter from Vermont, of this popu
lar medicine. Though averse to the free use of
medicine, and especially of the patent medicines ol
the day, we have had such opportunities to know
of the beneficial effects of this Balsam on our
friends and acquaintance, that we are constrained
to regard it as a very valuable remedy for coughs,
colds, &c.

>iaii(i'M Marsaparilla.
Inflammation ol the mucous membranes, is the
result of some impression made upon them by
cold or other causes. Hence chronic catarrh,
bronchitis, resulting in disease of the puhnonar)
organs, which terminates in consumption, gas
tritis, otorrhea or running from the ears, disease
of the kidneys and ureters, ail originate from an
impression lirst made on the mucous tissues. —
From experience in various cases, it is found that

CHARLESTON, April 21.— Colton.— The
general features of the Cotton market has under
gone no change since the close of the previous
week. The market continues quiet, from the
fact that holders do not seem disposed to submit
to a decided concession. Transactions on Sa
turday last may be said to have been suspended,
as the sales did not reach 100 hags. Un Mon
day and yesterday there was some little inquiry,
particularly for the better grades, but buyers made
slow progress, owing to the stringent rates re
quired for the article. During the two days the
operations reached a little over 900 bags—4o3 on
Monday and 505 bags on Tuesday—-at an J and
perhaps in occasional instances Jc. decline, which
it will be recollected was the reduction claimed at
the close of business on the day vve received the
European advices; the market, however, is very
unsettled. The sales in three days roach but
1000 bags at extremes, ranging from lOj to ll|c.
500 of which sold at llj and 1 He. per lb.
Rice. —The Rice market on Saturday and
Monday was very quiet; yesterday, however,
some inquiry prevailed for the better qualities,
and sellers obtained a decided advantage over
purchasers. The transactions since our last
reach 1500 tierces at extremes ranging from 3| to
4 5-lOths; and at the close of operations prices
had advanced a full Jo. There was a sale at a
price much above our highest figures, but as it
forms no criterion in the market, we have thought
it advisable not to report the transaction.
