CANCER. An interesting rase cured by Jayne’s Aflenttne. In the spring of 1831.a cancerous tumor appear i ed in the right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter Stretch, of Salem, N. J. It was examined by many Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous, and besides bore all the. characteristic marks of one. All probable means of removing it were used without the slightest benefit. It continued to in- j crease both in size and painfulness. until nil hope of saving her life, but by a pa nful operation, was abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Hr. John Rhea Barton, assisted by Hr. Redman, the proprietor, and two otln-rrnefficai gentlemen. The whole and entire right breast was rerco’ed, anil af ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by all present a cancer of the most malignant cburac- , ter. In about thre months, after enduring incredi ble sufferings. she. was enabled, though broken in ! spirit, to get about again. Flic remained feeble, and her general health w as exceedingly bad, a< in deed it had been for several years before, lathe spring of 1837, upwards of five years after h *r breast { ],ad been removed, a painful tumor made its ap pearance, on the right side, immediately over the part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right breast, prev ions to its removal. This tumor steadi ly increased for several months, and t.-came so painful as to deprived her of rest. The glands un der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and j a hard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap- i peared in the left breast. .No operation could now arrest thedisease. Indeed her whole body appear ed to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid ered hopeless. Bhe was of a very scrofulous habit, both her patents having died of Pulmonary con sumption. The experiment was now made with this Alterative. It was at first given in small doses, three times a day. and the doses very gruiu ally, but steadily increased daily, as long as she I took it, which w as about six months, and the skin over and around the tumour was wet night and morning with a strong solution of lodine and Jlv driodate Potash, '{'he tumour continued increas ing in size for about six weeks, and was at times very painful, w hen the pain suddenly ceased alto gether, and the tumour swelled out at the base, ami became soft, and then began to diminish, and con- , tinned gradugjly decreasing until every vestige of disease was removed. The tumour in her left breast, aitd those in her right axilla were also dis persed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and hergenerai health, which had been so had for fourteen years as to make life a burthen, was effectually and permanently restored, i The proprietor is in possession of the diseased j breast, and those who choose may examineit. He ] would also say that lie could mention over a dozen rases equally interesting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer and cancerous tumours, but he j has not room hereto record them. Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., i bad a goitrous tumour on the left side of her w ind pipe.a- large as the half of an orange, w hich was cured by using this Alterative fur about four months. >lip S R S , South Fourth-street, Phila delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the • throat, which filled the entire space between the chin and breast-bone, and extended around on each side of her neck to behind her ears, and from her ears to her shoulders, and produced aw Mil de formity. It commenced growing when she was but five years old. and continued gradually to in crease until she was nineteen, at w hich time she J commenced using this Alterative, which she took for seven months, which entirely reduced the en largement; and she has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can he found. The proprietor is not at .iberty to give her name in print, but will refer per son* to her. For sale by WM. Ix- KITCHEN, 28 Jy 2 Sole Ageutfor Georgia. I PATENT MEDICINES!
