The proprietor of thi« Alterative would most re
spectfully assure the public that he has not ollerei
this preparation to their notice without due ie ' < -
tion. and close and rigid study, nor untw a.o .
twelve years* experience had nianitese o j.. _r* [
Ftiperioritv over every other article o >' v ■ .
and he now recommends it with confidence , fuh j
believing that the above combination of medicine
will eflectiiallv eradicate from the svsten. a class
„f disease some of which have heretofore been cun
fidcred incurable.
fie has prescribed it in almost every variety of
disease and with unparalleled success, especially
in cutaneous affections cancerous, scrofulous anu
scorbutic diseases, ams diseases originating from
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri
ty of the blood.
Cancer and Canccrotis Tumors.
He has used this preparation in upwards of twen
ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu
mors, and in every case but one with perfect and
entire success.
JJionchocclc or fioitrf?, (Stvcl’otl Neck.)
fte has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of |
goitre.and it ha- never foiled in a single instance ,
to completely remove the disease. Not a solitary
rase offadure. All were cured.
The success be, has m<*t with in curing bronrho
cele and cancerous affections has convinced him
that these dang rous and horrible diseases may he
removed with as much certainty as Fever and
Ague. lie does not wish to be understood as say- !
ing that they can be cured as soon as fever and
but with asmnch ce-rtuinftß and further, that
lie has good reason for believing that this prepara
tion will not only « lire these diseases when formed,
but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle
lurking in the system, from which that peculiar
class of diseases, as well as t lv.it of scrofula emanate.
Scrofula —King's Fvil.
This preparation has been n»ed in numerous cases
of Scrofula, King’s Evil* andscrofulous swellings,
and always with the most deci :ed success.
Skin Diseases.
Helms prescribed it in a great variety of cutane
ous affect ions, ami found it successfu 1 in curing salt
rheum, or teller, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew
and jaundiced skin. c.
Dyspepsia and I.ivrr f omplaint.
It lias been used in numerous cases of liver com
plaint and Dyspepsia, and with i he happiest etlecl.
Tic-Doiiloarettz.
It has been used in several cases ol Neuralgia,
and in every case it was successful.
Rheumatism.
This preparation has been prescribed in a groat !
maiiy cases of chronic rheumaism, and in every
case in which it was used until the system became
affected by the medicine, the disease was removed*
(Tout.
A number of cases of gout have been cured by
this prepare tion. In one ol these cases, the man
had been afflicted with il so severely lor thirteen
years as to entirely disable him from business, and
ior five months immediately previous to oi> taking
the Alterative he had been confined to hi-* room;
hut before be bad finished the third hot.le. tie wns
enabled to walk about the strews and soon after re
lumed to bis business, from which he had so long
been excluded by bis afflictions,
Dropsical Swelling*.
This medicine increases .the powers of digestion,
excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all
unnatural enlargements are reduced. It imparts
toite and vitality to the whole system, removing i
sick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering 1
painsand nervous alleciions. j
In fact, in every case where the medicine lias
been taken for some time, no matter for wh I pur
pose, the general health of the patient has always
been improved by tt.
In couelusion, the proprietor would say that some
of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer, bronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured by
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but
want of room in this sheet precludes-their publica
tion at this time.
CANCER.
An interesting rase cured by Jayne's Alterative.
In the spring of 1831. a cancerous tumor appear- j
ed in the rigid breast of Mrs. IMtnebe, w ile of Feter
Stretch, of Salem, N. J. it was examined by many
Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous,
and besides bore ail the characteristic marks of j
one. All probable means of removing il were used j
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in- ;
crease both in size and pain fulness, until all hope
of saving her life, hut by a painful operation, w as
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832. by l)r.
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The i
whole and entire right breast was rerao"ed, and af
ter examination of tiie tumor, was pronounced by
all present a csnicer of the most malignant charac
ter. In about three months, afterend tiring incredi
ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. tßhe remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it had been for several years before, in the
spring of IS3T. upwards of five years after her bieast
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
breast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi- j
lv increased for several months, and became so I
painful as to deprived her of rest. The glands un
der the right arm were enlarged; and seirrhus, and
a hard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap- i
peared in the left breast. No operation Could now
arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear
ed to he a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. Bhe was of a very scrofulous habit,
both her parents having died of Pulmonary con
sumption. 'The experiment was now matte with |
this Alterative. It was at first given in small j
doses, three times a day, and the doses very gradu
ally, but steadily increased daily, as long as she ,
look it, which was about six months, and the skin
over and around the tumour was wet night and
morning with a strong solution of lodine and Hv
driodate Potash. 'Fhe tumour continued increas
ing in size for about six weeks, and was at times
Very painful, when the pain suddenly ceased alto
gether, and the tumour swelled out at the base, and
became soft, and then began to diminish, and con
tinued gradually decreasing until every vestige of
disease was removed. The tumour in her left
breast, and those in her right axilla were also dis
persed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever
appeared afterwards; and her general health, which
bad been so bad for fourteen years as to make life a
burthen, was effectually and permanently restored.
The proprietor is in possession of the diseased
breast, and those who choose may examine it. He
would also say that he could mention over a dozen
rases equally interesting, wherein his Alterative
has subdued eancerand cancerous tumours, but he
has not room hereto record them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton's Bridge, N. J.,
bad a goitrous tumour on the left side of her u ind
pipe,a> large as the half of an orange, which was
cured by using this Alterative for about four
months.
ftfjsg R s , South Fourth-Street, Phila
delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire space between the
chin and breast-bone, and extended around on i
each side of her neck to behind her eftts. and from
her ears to her shoulders, and produced awful de |
fortuity. It commenced growing when she was
but five years old. and continued gradually to in
crease until she was nineteen, at w hich time she
commenced using this Alterative, which she took j
for seven months, w hich entirely reduced the en- :
largernent; and she has now us smooth and pretty
a neck as can be found. The proprietor is not at >
.iberly to give her name in print, but will refer per- ■
sons to her.

MUST those he who have Pulmonary C onsnmplion,
or any affection of the Lungs, Liver or Chest,
i after reading ihe following letter, just received from a
most respectable inhabitant of Westchester County
New York.
TaurytoWn, Aug. 9, 1?44.
Dear Doctor—Tl is difficult to find words to express the
gratitude which I feel towards yon for the intere.-t you
have tak< n to relieve me in my distress. In Ihe year
IS 12 I contracted a heavy chid, which finally settled on
my lungs; in a few months after I commenced coughing
and raising offensive matter, which smelt very had.
Having heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a
rough I tried a few boxes of them, but they had not the
least effect on :«e. I then called in the best physician in the
place, whoa tended me a few months, but without sue
cess ; I then saw an advertisement in one of the city
papers of Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which I
pur based three hot t les, at the corner ot I'u I ton and Nas
sau streets, but 1 could net perceive t' e least beneficial
effect from it, on the contrary I think it was a great in
jury to me. Shortly after using it I commenced raising
blood in large quantities ; 1 was taken down sick and
j confined to tin- house for three months, during which
j time I lost my appetiie and f-11 away very fast; I was
: then induced to consult Dr.. Curtisof New Vork. (one of
i the, best physicians in the city,) hut fie could do me no
i good. 1 again became worse, and was confined to Ihe
i house all last winter and spring.and 1 gave up all hope of
ever getting any het'er, as I again raised blood ami my
cough was \ cry severe, together with a pain in my breast
and undertbe shoulder Idade. 31 v friends now gave up
all hope of my recovering, and thought every day was
tliela-.t. About this time I heard of your BALSAM OF
l.t VERWOIIT brine c and fur consumption, bull was
! like many others, 'id was fearful that it might he a regu
lar humbug; J however filially consented to trv it, as |
I thought it could make me no worse. My brother then
! purchased a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N. V.. and I rom
-1 menced t aking it. and by the time 1 had used one bottle
j full I could sleep all flight, and in the morning I had an
appetiie for my breakfast. I still keep on taking il and
i find great benefit from it—the pain in my breast is entire
ly gone, and I raise no more blood. Within the last two
mouths) have gained in weight >ix pounds and much in
streag h. I would therefore advise all who have any
affec" ion of the Lungs or Liver to fry the Genuine Dr.
Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for 1 truly believe it to
bethe best remedy in existence for diseases or' the Lungs
or Liver. Should any one doubt the above st itement re

I will convince them of its virtue.
