The Expectorant we have known used among
owranliraate friends with equal success; and we
fed;that we shall do a good act to families (espe
cially those situated so they cannot have access to
immediate medical skill,) to advise them to keep
on hand both the Expectorant and Carminati e.
Tha Expectorant is believed by good physi
cians, to be the best recipe for Pulmonary
Consumptive Compaints, that has ever yet been
compounded. The reason. Dr. Jayne is not a
quuek, but a regular, scientific, and able medical
practitioner himself. His medicines are used by
the best physicians.

JAYNE’S SANATIVE PILLS, though not

with his Tonic Vermifuge or Alterative, will not

Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry.
A VALUABLE TESTIMONY - .
Wc like at all times, to give credit when credit
is due, nnd if at tne same time we can relieve the
distressed, we are doubly gratified; we, therefore,
give the following voluntary testimony as lo the
beneficial effects of VVistar's Balsam of Wild
Cherry, by the editor of the Columbia South
Carolinian, who appears to have obtained great
relief from its use. Old Dominion, Portsmouth ,
Va.
WI STAR’S BALSAM OF WILD CHER
RY.
We seldom resort to patent medicines, having
a great respect for the skill of the medical profes
sion, but chance threw into our way the above
named medicine, immediately after the close of
the late session of the Legislature, wh< n our
lungs were a1.n0.-t dried up by the highly ratified
atmosphere of our stove-warmed Stale-house.
The Balsam immediately relieved us of a most
harassing cough, which threatened our health in
a serious degree. We feel that we are indebted
te it for some fifteen pounds of animal weight--
which addition being once FELT, cannot be
forgotten.

COTTON.—Our last review left the market
with a limited business transacting, both buyers
and sellers awaiting; the arrival of the Caledonia,
then nearly due, in which state it continued up to
Saturday. On Sunday the telegraphic advices per
steamer came to hand, and being favorable to cot
ton, showing a if improvement in the Liverpool
market of i cent, oar market opened on Monday
morning with a goo* enquiry. A damper, howev
er, was soon put upon operations by the stringent
prices asked bv holders, who inime.liately put up
their asking rates 3 a I cent —and In some few in
stances this advance was paid on Monday for par
ticular lots—but the generality of purchasers with
drew, to await the receipt of their letters, which
came to hand on Monday evening, and not proving
as favorable as the telegraphic accounts, on Tues
day morning the market opennl wkh a languid
feel in ?, and it was difficult to effect sales at }c ad
vance on last Wednesday’s rates. Purchasers do
not seem in the least disposed to operate at the ad
vance demanded, the majority of them holding to
the opinion that prices in this market were alrea
dy too High, leaving litem little or no margin to go
upon, holders, however, are firm in their asking
rates, and as the quantity offering is light, they are
as indifferent to selling as purchasers are in buy
ing, and with this feeling our market closed last
evening. Th*- sales of the week have been limit
ed, reaching only 1631 bales, which were disposed
of as follows: 10 at 10}. 17 at 10},

I li, 77 at 111, 4 at 111. 92 at 12, andl6atl2}.—
The receipts at this point still continue light, and
will no doubt continue so for the remainder of the
season, as there is not much cotton in the interior
to come forward We alter onr quotations to con
form to present prices, hut would remark that
they are difficult to obtain. They are fur square

to have no immediate effect on the Upland market,
until in the afit-r pari of the day, when somew hat
rising of 1500 bales were taken hy buyers. The
demand, however, was hy no mentis general, hut
principally confined io a Northern house. Prices
ranged from 11$ a !2},and must be .consi iered as
somewhat unsettled—since sellers claimed an ad

rated at, or nearly the current rates of Friday and
Saturday last.

| charge anti warranted to give ample satisfaction.
AlHmlers addressed to the subscriber will meet

and at short notice. All old gins of 10 inch saws

and aiso warrant them to make as good cotton as
any of the improved gins, and at a much less cost
than a new gin. J. D. UA3IMACK.
Crawfordville, Ga., May 4.
1 will say to the planters who may favor Mr.
Hammack with their patronage 1 will exert all the
ability 1 have in superintending the shop; and
every gin sent from the shop shall he in complete
order, and warranted to he the cheapest girts ever
offered to the public :’’and from my long experi
ence in llie business, f know the gins Cannot he
surpassed, although agents from other shops have
resorted to the contemptible practice of slandering
j me and saying my gins have prostrated me, though
| it is not true, lit full confirmation of wiiall say,
j I off r a few certificates from gentlemen who

S. R. Crenshaw.
Dear Sir.- I have the Gin bought of you
■ for two years ami 1 very cheerfully recommend it
j to the Colton planters of Oglethorpe and other
1 counties of Georgia. It turns off" sufficiently fast
to make good Coiron —it being 50 saws—will throw
out about 800 lb. of lint a day. Tiie quality of the
Cotton basin Augusta ranged hall cent higher at
each of my sales than other sales of those days, and
it has been pronounced by those Considered com-*
i patent to judge—as in no way inferior to the Cava
Gin. Yours very respectfully,
F. iIERIUWETHER.

Ocr.ETtronrECounty, April 22, 1847.
I have used for ihe last three years a machine
that was made by 8. R. ( renshavv, of Craw fbrd
ville. I* consider itoneuf the best Gins I have
ever seen. Two small mules will gin, with a
great deal of ease, three hales per day, and I do not
i think there is a gin in Georgia that can excel it in
1 making fine cotton. In fact, Mr. Crenshaw has
sold a great many gins in this county and Elbert,
and I think that every man who has purchased is
perfectly satisfied. All of his gins which have
been sold in this county, and they are not a lew,
run light, pick fast, and w hat is better than all,
when the coiron is carried to market it sells for the
very highest price. C. S. Merriwether.
Crawfoiidvili.e. May 4. 1847.
Mr. JD. Hammack —l certify that I bought of
S. K. Crenshaw, last year, a forty-five saw anti
friction Cotton Gin, which performs well and
makes as good cotton as the Carver Gins, in my
opinion. * B. G, Rhomb.
