TV 0 UST those be who have Pulmonary Consumption, i J.TJB. or any affection of the Lungs, Liver or Chest, | after reading the following letter, just received from a most respectable inhabitant of Westchester County I New York; Tarrytown, Aug. 9, 1844. Dear Doctor—llls difficult to find words to express the | gratitude which 1 feel towards you for the interest you ! have taken to relieve me in ray distress. In the year HE I contracted a heavy cold, which finally settled on my lungs; in a few months after I commenced coughing I and raising offensive matter, which smelt very bad. Having’ licard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a cough I tried aftiw boxes of them, but they bad not the least effect on me. I then called in (he best physician in the place, who attended me a few mouths, hut without sue j cess; I then saw an advertisement in one of the city j papers of Wistar’s Balsanl of Wild Cherry, of which 1 purchased three bottles, at the. corner of Fulton and Nas- ; sau streets, but I could not perceive the least beneficial i effect from it, on the contrary 1 think it was a great in jury’ to me. Shortly after using it I commenced raising blood in large quantities; 1 was taken down sick and : confined to the house for three months, during which time I lost ray appetite and fell away very fast; 1 was j then induced toconsult Dr. Curtisof New York, (one of j the best physicians in the city,) but he could do me no good. I again became worse, and was confined to the bouse all last winter anil spring, ami I gave up all hope of ever getting any better, as I again raised blood and my cough was very severe, together with a pain in my breast and under the shoulder blade. Mv friends now gave up | all hope of my recovering, and thought every’ day’ was the.last. About this time I heard of your BALSAM OF j LIVERWORT being good for consumption, but I was like many others, ■•• id was fearful that it might boa regu lar humbug; 1 however finally consented to trv it, as I thought it could make me no worse. My brother then | purchased a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N. V.. and I com menced taking it, and hy the time I had used one bottle full I could sleep all night, and in the morning i had an a-ppatitefor my breakfast. I still keep on taking it and find great benefit from it—the pain in my breast is entire ly gone, and I rats'*no more blood. Within the last two mouths 1 have gained iu weight six pounds and much in strength. I would therefore advise all who have any 1 affection of the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr. j Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for I truly believe it to bathe best remedy in existence for diseases of the Lungs or Liver. Should any one doubt the ihove statement re lative to your valuable medicine, let h;iiT call on me, and ! I will convince them ofits virtue. Yours respectfully, DE REVERE. The proprietor of this Alterative would most re spectfully assure the public that he has not offered tiiis preparation to their notice without due reflec tion, and close and rigid study, nor until after twelve years’ experience had manifested its great , , superiority over every other article of the kind,— : and he notv reooilmiettds it with confidence, fully believing that the above combination of medicine will effectually eradicate from the system a class of disease some of which have heretofore been cuu i sidered incurable. He lias prescribed it in almost every variety of i disease and with unparalleled success, especially in cutaneous' affections, cancerous, scrofulous and scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from obstruction nr enlargement of l lie glands or impuri ty of the blood. Not aso’itary f.h's-j dffailtj're. All vvere cured. The success lie has met with i:v curing brcnrlm ccle and cancerous affections has convinced him that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be i removed with as inuch certainty as Fever and Ague, lie does not wish to he understood as say ing that they can be cured as soon as Fever and ; Ague, but with as much certainty; and further, that he has good reason for believing that this prepara tion will not only < urc these diseases w hen formed, ! hut that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle lurking in the system, from which that peculiar class of diseases, as well as that ofserofttla emanate. Scrofula— King's Evil'. This preparation has been used in numerous < ases oflScrofula, King’s Evil, and scrofulous.swellings, and always with the most dcci !ed success. Skill Diseases. Rheumatism. j This preparation has been prescribed in a great ] many cases of chronic rheumaism, and in every ' case in which it was used until the system became affected by the medicine, the disease w as removed 1 Clout. A number of cases of gout have been cured hy this preparation. Iu one of these cases, the man j had been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen i years as to entirely disable him from business, ami for five months immediately previous to his taking the Alterative lie had beeh, confined to his room; but before lie had finished the third bottle, he was ’ enabled to w alk about the streets and soon after re turned io his business, from which lie had so long been excluded by his afflictions. Dropsical Swellings, This medicine increases the pow ers of digestion, excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by which watery or calcareous depositions, arid all unnatural enlargements are reduced. It imparts i • tone and vitality to the whole system, removing j sick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering I painsaml nervous affections. in fact, in every case where the medicine has been taken for some time, no matter fi-r what pur ; pose, the general health of the patient lias always been improved by it. In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can ! cer, bronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured ny ; this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but i i want of room in this sheet precludes their publica : ion at this time. CANCER. An interesting case cured by Jayne's Alterative. | In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear ed in tile right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter i j Stretch, of Salem, N. J. It was examined by many j Physicians.arid was considered hy all as cancerous, ! i and besides bore all the characteristic marks of I one. All probable means of removing it were used j ; without the slightest benefit. It continued to in- 1 I crease both in size and painfulness, until all hope I of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was | abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr. John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The whole ami entire rigid breast was removed, and af ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by all present a cancer of th*- most malignant charac ! ter. In about three months, after enduring iucredi j | hie sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in j | spirit, to get about again, bhe remained feeble, I i and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in- | i deed it had been for several years before. In the j I spring of J 837, upwards of five years after her breast I ! had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap j pearance on the right side, immediately over the part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right ( breast, prev ions to its removal. This tumor steadi ly increased for several months, and became so painful as to deprived her of rest. The glands un der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhlis, and a hard, irregular, arul at times painful tumour, ap- i I peared in the left breast. No operation could now I arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear ed to he a mass of disease. Her cos# was consul j ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit, both her parents having died of I’ulmonarv con- j , sumption. The experiment was now made with j lids Alterative. It was at first given in small doses, three times a day, and the doses very gradu- j ally, but steadily increased daily, as long as she ; took it, which was about six months, ami the skin ; over and around the tumour was wet night and ! morning with a strong solution of lodine and Hy ( driodate Potash. The tumour continued increas ( in-r in size for about six weeks, and was at times very painful, when the pain suddenly ceased alto gether, and the tumoursw’elled out at the base.and became soft, and then began to diminish, and con : tinned gradually decreasing until every vestige of j disease was removed. The tumour in her left breast, and those in her right axilla were also dis persed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever | j appeared afterwards; and hergeneral health, which had been so bad for fourteen years as to make life a | burthen, was effectually and permanently restored. | The proprietor is in possession of the diseased breast, and those who choose may examine it. He would also say that he could mention over a dozen cases equally interesting, wherein his Alterative lias subdued caucerand cancerous tumours, but he I has not room’ here to record them. 1 Airs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had a goitrous tumour on the left side of her wind pipe, as large as the half of an orange, which was j cured by using this Alterative fur about four I months. Miss R S , South Fourth-street, Phila- j delphia. was also cured of an enlargement of the I j throat, which filled the entire spaee between the chin and breast-hone, and extended around on each title of her neck to behind her ears, and from ; her ears to her shoulders, and produced a w ful de- i fortuity. It commenced growing when she was i I but five years old. ami continued gradually to in i I crease until she was nineteen, at which time she , : commenced using this Alterative, w hich she took j , for seven months, which entirely reduced the en- ! largement; and she has now as smooth and pretty : a neck as can be found. The proprietor is not at ! iherty to give her name in print, but wall refer per- j son* to her. For sale by VI M. T\.
