ARLESTON, May 29.— Colton. When we closed our inquiries on Friday, the 21st insl., the Cotton market was in a very depraved state, for as the week drew to a close, operations were almost entirely suspended, owing to the unfavorable ad \ ices brought over by the steamer Britannia. The sales sine** the arrival of her accounts on the pre ceding Wednesday had been limited to .'l5O bales, ui a reduction of i to ic., as staled in a former re port. on the prices current on ihe 7th inst , just pri or to the receipt of the ('tiedonia's accounts. Du ring the vv eek just broghl to a close, an unusual de gree of inactivity has pervaded the market, and prices on some grades may be said to have suffered even lu a gre iter extent than the reduction noticed above. On Saturday last, and during the first two days ulThe present week, the operations had j extended to some 1550 bales, and at the close of business on Toe- lay prices were reported 4 a }«•. down on .ill qualities from the highest point; Until is proper h re to add that the sales in these three days were confined cliieily to one house, as factors any such com es ion. The market t iroughout Wednesday and Thursday may he said to bale been brought t > a stand, in consequence of the to tal absence of anything like a demand for the at tide, and during yesterday business was almost entirely suspen lad. The trade are anxiously a- | waiting further intelligence from Europe, until which time the tran action* will doubtless continue i very limited; and what will he the ultimate result ! on the prices of this staple, is left for time to de- I vetope. It is impossible at present to give quuta tions with the least semblance of accuracy. The sales since our last may be pul down as fol- I lows, viz Saturday 63» bales, Monday 100, 'l ues- I day 513, \S eduesday 41, 1 liursday 150, Friday | 103 bales —making an aggregate of 1352 b les, i against the receipt in the same time 0f28b4 bales, 'idie at tua! transactions comprise 57 bales at 91; ■ 15 at If; 376 at UR; 7£*it lU4; 211 at lt»|; 140 at 11; 182 at Hi; 62at ITT; 23 at 11J; Cl sat 111; and I 51 bales at Hie. The prospects of the growing ! crop of Fulton have nut improved any since we | referred to the subject a fortnight ago, hut on the i contrary, the complaints are more general that the ; growth ol the plant has been very much retarded by an unusually cold and backward spring. The transactions in Long Colton have been quite lim ped since tile receipt of the Britannia’s accounts. ( A few parcels have changed hands at former prices, | say 24c lor lifer or sorts, to 32c for clean Mains. Nothing has been done in ilie higher qualities.— i 'i here i> some apprehension about the growing crop. The plant this .Spring has suffered from the ] cold and bleak winds of April and the early part j of May. Re-planting ol' parts of crops has been \ \ery general along the seaboard as far as F orida, I and in many cases v\hli success; but within the i lasi fortnight the plant which escaped the cold is j very' backward, and looks sickly; much, however, | depend* on llie stale of the weather Bum this time | forward. t'U.ur. —The markets has been quiet after the j comparatively .heavy operation of ihe preceding week; and advanced r.iles have been established, ddie bn iuess has been confined chiefly to country Flour in small dots at prices ranging from 7 to 7,1; a V' estern, also in small parcels, Irom 8 to $34 per bill, d I.a other descriptions have been entirely ri'-glected.
