CANCER. A* interesting case cured by Jayne s Alterative. In the spring of 1831. a cancerous tumor appear e.d in the right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, jvife of Peter .Stretch, of Salem, N. J. It was examined by many Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous, and besides bore all the characteristic marks of one. All probable means of removing it were used without the slightest benefit. It continued lo in rrease both in size and painfulness, until all hope of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent Physicians, was performed. Jin. Ist, 1-32, by Dr. John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman. the proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The whole a*id entire right breast was retao'ed, and af ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by all present a cancer of the most malignant charac ter. In about three months, after enduring incredi Me sufferings, she. was enabled, though brokgp in spirit, to get about again. £he remained feeble, and her general health was exceedingly had, as in deed it had been for several years before. In the spring of 1837. upwards of five years after her breast had been removed, a painful turn t made its ap pe a ranee on the right side, immediately over the part formerly occupied hy the nipple of the rigid breast, previous to its removal. 'Phis tumor steadi ly increased for*several months, and became so painful as to deprived her of rest. The glands un der the rightann were enlarged; and scirrhtis, and a hard, irregular, and at times p linful tumour, ap peared in the left breast. * No operation could now arrest the disease. Indeed her whole !to*h a; rear ed to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid ered hopples*. Hie was of a \ cry• scrofulous haict. both her parents having diet! of Pulmonary con sumption. Tile experiment was now unde with this Alterative. It was at first giv n ii smill dose*, three times a day. and the doses very gradu ally, but steadily increased daily, as lung as she took it, which was about six months, and the skin over and around the tumour was wet night and morning with a strong solution of I dine and Hy driodate Potash. The tumour continued increas ing in size for about six weeks, qpd was at times very painful, when the pain suddenly ceased aito jreiijjftc. and thfiJMkWtrswelled out at the base.ami became soft, and then began to diminish, and con tinued gradually decreasing until every vc-tige of disease was removed. The tumour in her left breast, and those m her right axilla were also dis persed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and her general health. which had been so had for fourteen \ ears as to make life a burthen, was effectually and permanently restored. The proprietor is in possession of the diseased brea-u, and those who choose may examine it. He would also say that he could mention over a dozen cases equally interesting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer and cancerous tumours, but he has not room hereto record them. Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge.N. J.. had a goitrous tumour on the left side of her wind pipe, as largo as the half of an orange, w hich was cured by using this Alterative for about four months. Miss K S .South Fourlh-strecL Phila delphia, was also cured of an enlarrum 8#- of the throat, which filled the entire space between the chin and ami extended around on each side of her neck to behind henears.and from her ears to her shoulders, and produced aw ful de formity. It commenced growing when she was hut five years old, and continued gradually to in crease until she was nineteen, at which time she commenced using this Alterative, which she took for seven months, which entirely reduced the en largement; and she. has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can be found. The proprietor is not at .jberty to give her name in print, but will refer per sons to her. For sale by MEM. K. KITCHEN. g«p 28 ly 2 Sole Agent for Georgia.
