CANCLII. An Interesting case cured by Jayne's Alterative. In the spring of lA3I, a cancerous tumor apjiear ed iu the rieiit breast of Airs. Phoebe, wile of I’eter Stretch, of Salem, .N. J. It wasexamiued by many Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous, and besides bore ail the characteristic marks of one. All pro >able means of removing it w ere used without the slightest benefit. It continued to in creaae both in size ami painfulrc.-s, until all hope of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was abandoned, which, after a consultation ot eminent Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, INtJg, by Dr. John Hima'Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. T!te whole and entire right breast w as remold, and af ter examination ol the tumor, was pro iounced by all oresent a cancer of the most malignant charac ter.' In about three month-, after enduring incredi b'e sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in soirif, to get about again. >l:e remained feeble, and her general health was exceedingly bud, as in deed it had been for several years before. In the soring of 1837. upwards ol five years after her breast had been reraov d, a painful tnnn>r made its ap pearance on the right side, immediately over the part formerly occupied by me nipple ol th? right breast, pre v ions toils removal. Th is tumor stead i- Jir increased for several months, and became so painful as to deprived her of rest, 'i he glands un der the right arm were enlarged; am scirrlius, and a hard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap peared in the left breast. No operation could now arrest thedisease Indeed her whole iiod y appear ed to be r mass of disease. Her case was consid ered hopeless, r-i.e wasof a very scrofulous habit, boih her parents having died of I’ulmonarv con sumption. 'l’he experiment was now made with tins Alterative. It was at first given in small doses, three times a day. and the ilusgs very gradu ally, hut steadily increased daily, as long as she took it. which was about six months, and tlie skin over ami around the tumour was wet night and morning with a strong solution of lodine and llv viriodate Pota-h. The tumour continued increas iuxitl size for about six week* and was at limes very painful, when the pain suddenly ceased alto gether, and the tumoursweiled out at the base.and became soft and then began to diminish, and con liuued gradually decreasing until every vestige of disease was removed. The tumour in her left oreast, and those in her right axilla were also dis persed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and her general health, w Inch h id b-en so had for fourteen years as to make life a burthen, woseffec ualiy and permanently restored. The proprietor is in possession ot the diseased breast, and those who choose may examine it. lie would also say that lie could mention over a dozen cases equally interesting, wherein his Alterative ! has subdued canceraud cancerous tumours, but he has not room hereto record them. >i s, Sarah Voting, of Quinton's Bridge, N. Mi-s R S .South Fourth-street, Phila delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the throat, which tilled the entire space between tlie chin and breast-bone, and extended around on each side of her neck to behind her ears, and from her ears to her shoulders, and produced awful de formity. It commenced growing when she was | but five years old. and continued gradually to in crease iniiil she was nineteen, at Which time she ; commenced using this Alterative, which Qio took for seven months, which entirely reduced the en largement; and she has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can be found.
