Whereas the Third Section of the Second Arti
cle. of the Constitution of this State reads in the
following words, to wit:—-No person shall be el
igible to the office of Governor who shall not
have been a citizen of the United States twelve
years, and an inhabitant <>f this State six years,
and who has not altnined to the age of thirty
years, and who does not possess live hundred
acres of land in his own right within this State,
and other property to the amount of four thou
sand dollars, and w hose estate shall not on a rea
sonable estimation, he competent to the dis
chxrge of his just debts over and above that sum
—and whereas said properly qualification is in
consistent w i i h the genius of our institutions, and
the popular spirit of this age—
Section 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and
House of Representatives of the Slate of Georgia
in General Assembly met and it is hereby enacted
by the authority of the same, That so soon as this
Act shall have passed, agreeable to the require
ments of the Constitution, the following shall be
adopted in lien ofthe Section above, recited, (to
