Mexico.
We have more than once had occasion
to translate portions of the letters from
the City of Mexico, writen for the Patria,
by an intelligent and seeming impartial
and well informed correspondent. In that
paper of yesterday, we find another com
munication dated lire 22nd May, parts of
which are extremely interesting. The
writer adverts in the strongest terms to
the deplorable disorder and confusion
that prevail in the Capital. Mexico, says
he, seems in a mote desperate state than
ever. No one knows what is to be done
or what ought to be done, and tho-e who
hold the reins of what is called Govern
inent, neither know what steps they should
take, nor what they are themselves able
to effect.
We have at length in account of the
circumstances unending the return of
f>anta Anna to the Capital, (t appears
that on the I7ih, the Republican© publish,
ed a complete and triumphant vindication
of Gen. Minon, in which Santa Anna’s
conduct was exhibited in a most odious
light. The populace were furious
against their lately idolized general, and
when two days after, Santa Anna enter
ed the City, he was received hy the rabble
with indignant cries of “Death to Santa
Anna,” ‘he soils us to the Yankees,”
and volleys of stones in all directions.
The General in chief made his way to
the National Palace with all convenient
speed, and the guards were doubled to
prevent more dangerous outbreaks Thus
far, observes the writer, tire press has
been prevented from making public these
outrages-
The Capital is nearly defenceless in
spile of Mexican fanfaronade, and it is
thought that if Scott were to present him
self, he would enter without resistance
from a’population of 2U0,000 st uls. Al
most all others than the military are in
favor of peace, and do not care to conceal
their opinions. Tire soldiers are for war,
not through patriotic motives, but that
they may give full vein to their licenti
ousness and rapacity.
With respect to the Clergy, they have
wonderfully modified their view's since
the piomulgation of Gen. Scott’s procla
mation. Perceiving that the Americans
pledge themselves, to respect the Church
property,and observe their pledge,iheCler
gy have determined not to surrender
their wealth for the benefit of the Repuh
lie, arguing that when they agreed to de
s; o 1 themselves before, they imagined
lint the Americans would strip them, and
that therefore they had better help their
own countrymen. Now, however, that
they do not fear being molested, the Cle
rgy keep their purse strings tightly drawn.
The ren r is for the election of Pres : .
dent had not of course been received at
the dale of the writer’s letter. He is
confident, however, that flenera has
been chosen, and thinks that he is dispos
er! to commence negotiations for peace
G°n. Scott will probably he in Mexico
by the lime the result of the election is as
certained.

The great demand for this most important work,
(of which thousands are sold} lias compelled the
issue of a another edition. It is intended especi
ally for the married, as it discloses important se
crets which should lie known to litem particularly.
Here every female rati discover the causes, symp
toms, and the most efficient remedies and inmt
certain mode of cure, in every complaint to which
her sex is subject.
It is an important question to the married w hy it
is that we behold so many married females sickly,
debilitated, and prostrated ? as aUo the causes;
and w hether they are susceptible of remedy. They
will here find those important matters, connected
with discoveries in medical and physiological sci
ence, which meet this question.
This work is destined to be in tiie hands of every
wife and mother who has a regard for her own
health and welfare, as well as that of her hus
band.
The revelations contained in its pages have al
ready proved a blessing to thousands, as the innu
merable letters received by the author will at
test.
It is of course impossible to convey more fully,
in a public journal, the various subjects treated of,
as they are of a nature strictly intended for the
married ur those contemplating marriage; neither
is it necessary, since it is every one’s duty to be
come possessed of knowledge, whereby the suf
ferings to which a wife, a mother, or a sister may
be subject, can be obviated.

CHARLES ON, June 19— Cotton. —Our
reportol the 12th inst. left the Upland market in a
very depressed stale, as it was impossible as slat
ed in our report of thot morning, for bidders to
do unv thing in the wav of effecting sates, with
out submitting to a heavy concession; since that
time, however, more activity has prevailed than
characterized the business of the previous week,
bm it is owing to the fact that a reduction has
been granted. On Saturday last nothing was
done in the article. On Monday between 5 and
GOO bales changed hands; but on Tuesday and
Wednesday operations were again suspended.
On Thursday, *2/0 bales were sold, and yester
day, 191 bales were also taken by purchasers--
making the aggregate sales of the week reach up
wards ot 1000 bates, at the following prices : GO
bales -II 94; 2G at 10; 10 at lOJ, 55 at 10*; 3GO at

J bales at 11 J Fair has been sold at 10| a 10$,
and mixed lots of good middling ami middling fair
at lOJc. This reduction, however, is liy no
means general, the operations having been con
fined almost exclusively to one iiouse. as factors,
rather than follow in the wake of this establish
ment, have preferred shipping a portion of their
stocks. Received this week 1372 bales. ’The
market is in such a position, that it is impossible
to give quotations. The market, for those, de
nominations which are classed under the head of
Long Cotton, has also been quiet, and the trans
actions have been limited to about 158 bags Sea
Island, as follows: 91 bales at 25; 17 at 314; and
50 bah s at 31 and 35e. per lb
Corn. — The receipts of the week have been
limited to 7800 bushels, received per Rail Road.
We have no transactions to report, hut would
refer to quotations, which will give a fair criterion
ot the market. Dealers awaiting further advices
from Europe.
Flour. — The Flour market has been entirely
neglected during the week, and to have effected
sales, holders would have been comp- lhul to have
submitted to a reduction in prices, as was the
case with several small parcels of country which
changed hands—.say from 25 the 50c. per barrel.
