jnnating from a depraved or Impure state of the
Blood or other fluids of the body.
The proprietor of this Alterative would most re
s ectfully assure the public that he lias not offered
t ds preparation to their notice without due reflec- j
tion, and dose and rigid study, nor until after
twelve t ears’ experience had manifested its great
superiority over every other artiele of the kind,—
and lie now recommends it with confidence, fully
believing that the above combination of medicines
will effectually eradicate from the system a class
of diseases some of which have heretofore been con -
sidered incurable.
He has prescribed it in almost every variety of
diseases and with unparalleled success, especially
in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri
ty of the blood.
Cancer and Cancerous Tumors.
He lias Used this preparation in upwards of twrn- |
ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu
mors, and in every case but one with perfect and
entire success.
Bronchocele or Goitre, (Swelled Neck.)
He has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of
goitre, and it has never failed in a simile instance to
completely remove the disease. Mot a solitary
case of failure. All were cured.
The success he has met with in curing broncho
tele and cancerous affections has convinced him
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be
removed with as much Certainty as Fever and
Ague. He does not wish to he understood as sav- ;
ing that they can be cured as soon as Fever and
Ague, but with as much certainty; and further, that
he has good reason for believing that this prepara- ;
lion will not only cure these diseases when formed,
but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle
larking in the system, from which that peculiar
class of diseases, as well as that of scrofula emanate
Scrofula—King’s Evil.
This preparation lias been used in numerous
cases of scrofula, King’s Evil, and scrofulous swell
ings, and always with the most decided success.
Skin Diseases.
He has prescribed it in a great variety of cutane
ous affections, and found it successful in curing salt
rheum or tetter, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew
and jaundiced skin, &c.
Dyspspaia and Liver Complaint.
It has been used in numerous cases of liver com
plaint and Dyspepsia, and with the happiest effect.
Tic-Douloureux.
It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia, i
and in every case it was successful.
R b.eumatisni.
This preparation has been prescribed in a great
luany cases of chronic rheumatism, and in every
case in which it was used until the system became
affected by the medicine, the disease was removed.
Gout.
A nfimber of cases of gout have been cured by
this preparation. In one of these cases, the man
had been altiicted with it so severely for thirteen i
years as to entirely disable him from business, and
for live months immediately previous to his taking
the Alterative he had been confined to his room;
but before be bad finished the third bottle, he was j
enabled to walk about the streets and soon after re
turned to his business, from which he had so long
been excluded by his affliction-.
Dropsical Swellings.
This medicine increases the {lowers of digestion
excites the absorbents into health} exercise, by
which watery or calcareous depositions, and ail un
natural enlargements are reduced. It imparts
tone and vitality to the whole system, removing \
sick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering
-.pains and nervous affections.
In fact, in every case where the medicine has
been taken for some time, no matter for what pur
pose. the general health of the patient has always
been improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would sav that some
of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer, bronchoceie, and scrofula, have been cured by
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but
want of room in this sheet precludes their publica
tion at this time.
Cancar.
An interesting case cured by Jayne's Alterative.
In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter
Stretch, of Salem IS". J. it was examined by many
..Physicians, and was considered by.all as cancerous,
ami besides bore all the characteristic marks of
one. All probable means of removing it were used
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfulness, until all hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr.
John Ilhea .Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. Tue
w'bole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by j
all present a cancer of the most malignant charac
ter. In about three months, after enduring incredi
ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. She remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad. as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the
spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
breast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi
ly increased for several months, and became so
painful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un
der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
abard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast. No operation could now
arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear
td to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit,
eoth her parents having died of Pulmonary con
bumption. The experiment was now made wi h
shis Alterative. It was at first given in small doses,
three times a day, and the doses very gradually,
but steadily increased daily, as long as she took it,
which was about six months, and the skin over and
around the tumour was wet night and morning with
a strong solution of lodine and Hydriodate Potash.
The tumour continued increasing in size for about
six weeks, and was at times very painful, when the
pain suddenly ceased altogether, and the tumour
swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then
began to diminish, and continued gradually decreas
ing until every vestige of disease was removed.—
The tumour in her left breast, and those in her
right exilla were also dispersed. No cancerous or
scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; amt
her general health, which had been so bad for four
teen years as to make life a burthen, was effectu
ally and permanently restored. The proprietor is
in possession of the diseased breast, and those who
choose may examine it. He would also say that
he could mention oyer a dozen cases equally inter
esting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer
and cancerous tumours, but he has not room here
to record them.
- Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had
a goitrous tumour on the left side of her windpipe,
as large as the half of an orange, which was cured
by using this Alterative for about four months.
Miss It 8 , South Fourth-street, Phila
delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire space between the
chin and breast-bone, and extended around on each
aieje of her neck to behind her ears, and from her
ears to her shoulders, and produced awful deformi
ty. It commenced growing w hen she was but five
years old, and continued gradually to increase un
til she was nineteen, at which time she commenced
using this Alterative, which she took for seven
months, which entirely reduced the enlargement;
and she has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can
be found. The proprietor is not at liberty to give
Mr name in print, but will refer persons to her.

IN offering this valuable medicine to the people

Dr. Henry Branham has used this medicine in his
own ca<e. and has prescribed it to many others,
gives it as his opinion, that it is one of the safest
and most valuable medicines that can be used in
imperfect digestion, liver complaints, constipation
and irregular state of the bowels. It is useful in
billions complaints, to persons recovering from bil
lions fevers.amf in sick or nervous head-ache. To
pregnant women, who are subject to costiveness,
this medicine is well suited. In regulating the state
of the stomach and bowels, and promoting digestion,
it is particularly useful.
I could append a long list of certificates, but for

DR. LE ROY’S
VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL PILLS.
THE startling drawback on nearly all Medicinal
Agents has ever been that in their process of pur
gation and purification, they have also Debilitated
tic System. Hence Purgative Medicines have al
ways been regarded as at best but a Necessary
Evil; Patients resorting to them for the relief of
one disease at the expense of another. To obviate
this, Physicians have long sought for an Agent that
would at the same time
PURGE PURIFY AND STRENGTHEN.
But their efforts were nearly fruitless, and they
had almost despaired of success when the labors ot
| science and research, Vvefe Rewarded by a discov
ery which fully realized the fondest desires of the
.Medical Faculty, and which is justly regarded as
one of the most important Triumphs that Pharmacy
has ever achieved. This important desideratum is
named
Dr. Le Roy’s Vegetable Universal Pills.
\\ hich Purify the liU>od, and remove all corrupt
and vitiated humors, and unhealthy accumulations from
the body in a manner never before rivalled, and
w Inch yet produce no weakness or lassitude what
ever, but on the contrary, tone the Stomach, and
invigorate the constitution during the progress of
their operation. Dr. Le Roy’s Pills, in fact, unite
those heretofore irreconcilable, but most desirable
qualities, Evacuation and Incio-nration, for they are
at the same time a STRENGTHENING PURGA
TIVE, AND A PURIFYING TONIC.
T lie two paincipal ingredients in Dr. Le Roy’s
Pills are
WILD CHERRY SARSAPARILLA.
So prepared mat each promotes the beneficial ef
fect of the other, the former strengthening, while
the latter, through its union with various vegetable
ingredients, evacuates and purities; thus they su
perinduce no torpidity or lassitude of the the Diges
tive Functions, and hence their operations are at
tended by no Re-action or Subsequent Costiveness.
Dr. Le Roy’s Pilis arc the most active and search
ing Medicine in existence. They at once attack
the very root of Diseases, and their action is so
prompt that in an hour or they are taken,
the patient is aware of their good effects. They
not only operate on the Blood, but also on the chyle,
of which the Blood is formed, and this secures good
blood from the fountain head, moreover, they pro
duce neither nausea, griping or debility, and as a
family medicine they have no rival. Price 25 cts.

G A LVANIC RINGS AND
Magnetic Fluid.
r IIIS remarkable invention, which has received :
1 .ft. the almost universal approbation of the Me<li- i
I cui Profession ol Groat Britain, comprises an en- j
I tirely new application of Galvanism, as a remedial
I agent, by means of which the ordinary Galvanic
Batteries, Electric anti Magnetic Machines, Ac..
I are entirely dispensed With, and the mysterious
powers of Galvanism applied without any of the
objections which are inseparable from the general
mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irreg
ular intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the ‘
j Machines, has been pronounced alter a fair and iiu-
I partial trial, to be 'decidedly injurious, and it was to ■
i remedy this radical delect, that this new ‘applica- j
tion was projected, which alter uni, easing toil and |
I perseverance has been brought to its present state
;of perfection. The (rah'unit Rings answer all the !
i purposes of the most expensive Machines, and in
ifiauy other respects are more safe and certain in
accomplishing the desired effect.
The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the
: Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in
| all disorders which, arise from an enfeebled or tin- I
healthy state of the nervous or vital system, and those
complaints are among the most painful and univer
sal to which we are subject. They arise, without
exception, to one single cause—a derangement of
the Nervous system —and it was in these cases that
other “ remedies ” having so often failed, a new
agent was greatly needed, which it is confidently
j believed, has been found in the proper and judi
cious application of Galvanism.
The Galciviic Kings have been used with entire
success in ail cases of Rheumatism, acute or chronic, j
applying to the head, face or limbs: (rout. Tic-]

| Head., Pains in the Chest and Side, General Debil
\ ity, Deficiency of Nervous and Ph vsical Energi/, and
all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed Dys
| -pepsin, which is simply a nervous derangement of
the digestive organs, they have been found equally
successful. Their extraordinary effects upon the
system must be witnessed to he believed, and as a
certain Preventive for the preceding complaints
they are equally recommended. The Rings are of
different prices, being made of all sizes, and of va- ■
rious ornamental patterns, and can be worn by the |
most delicate female without the slightest incon
venience. In fact the sensation is rather agreea
ble than otherwise.
The Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, Bands,
Garters, Necklaces, Ac.
In some cases of a very severe character and of
long standing the power as applied by the Galvanic
I Rings is not sufficient to arrest the progress of dis
ease and ultimately to restore health. The improv- ;
ed modification in the Galvanic Kelts, Bracelets, j
entirely remedies this objection ; any degree |
of power that is required can readily he obtained, j
and no complaint which the mysterious agent of
Galvanism can effect will fail to be permanently re- i
lieved. These articles are adapted to the waist, arms. 1
wrists, limbs, ancles, or any part of the body with ;
perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces, are I
used with greater benefit in cases of Hronchitis or
affections of the throat generally ; also in eases of
Nervous Deafness; and with almost uniform success 1
as a preventive for Apoplexy, Ejnleptic Fits, and
similar complaints. •
CHRISTIE’S MAGNETIC FLUID.
Is issued in connection With the Galvanic Rings, ;
and all their modifications. This composition has
been pronounced by the French Chemists to be j
one of the most extraordinary discoveries of mod- j
era science. It is believed to possess a remarkable
power of rendering the Nerves sensitive to Galvanic j
action, by these means causing a circulation of the
influence at the seat of disease, and thus giving ra- :
pid and permanent relief. No other composition in
chemistry is known to produce the same effect or j
to impart a similar property to the nervous system
by means of an outward local application. The j
Magnetic Fluid contains nothing capable of the i
slightest injury, its application is agreeable, and it !
is as harmless in its action as it is beneficial in its
result. Tiie combined inventions are in every wav
perfectly harmless ; they are at prices within reach
of all, and the discoverer only requests a fair trial,
as a test of their surprising efficacy and permanent
; benefit.
1 hristic’s Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ters.
These articles form another valuable application
and the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They
are too important adjuncts to the genuine Galvanic
Rings and their modifications, acting upon the |
same principle, but having this advantage of more !
local application. They are confidently recoin- |
; mended as a Valuable addition in the speedy cure 1
of Rheumatism, acute or chronic; in all nervous
complaints, and as a positive remedy in cases of j
Pain aid \\ eakness in the Chest or Back, Pain in
the Side, Asthmatic. Affections, and in Weakness
or Oppression of the Pulmonary Organs. In Spi
ral Complaints, their effects arc of the most decided
character, and they have often been used with
complete success. They are also of the greatest
advantage in Pains and Weakness of the Breast,
and are highly recommended for many of those
complaints to which females are especially liable. |
As an effectual means for Strengthening the sys
i tern when debilitated by disease or other causes;
a? a certain aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a
Preventive for Colds, and in all affections of the
Chest, generally, the Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ter, will be found of great and permanent advantage.
In a few words, it embraces all the virtues of the
bc-4 tonic preparation with the important addition
of the Galvanic influence, which is neither impair
ed or exhausted, while the action continues. These
: articles will be found entirely tree from those ob-

H OWAWP OLLYCULPABLE, -
TO NEGLECT USING THE GENUINE
, DR. TAYLOR S BALSAM OF LIVERWORT.
375 Bowehv, N. Y.
MUST those be who have Pulmonary Consump
tion, or any affection of the Lungs, Liver or
Chest, after reading the following letter, just re
ceived from a most respectable inhabitant of West
chester County New York.
Tsiikytowx, Aug. 9, 1844.
Dear Doctor —It is difficult to find words to ex
press the gratitude which 1 feel towards you for
the interest you have taken to relieve me in my
! distress. In the year 1842 I contracted a heavy
cold, which finally settled on my lungs; in a few
months after, 1 commenced coughing and raising
offensive matter, which smelt very bad. Having i
heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good fur a i
coughs I tried a few boxes of them, but they had
rot the least effect on me. 1 then called in the
best physicians in the place, who attended me a ;
few months, but without success; 1 then saw an ad
vertisement in one of the city papers of Wistar’s
Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which 1 purchased three
! bottles, at the corner of Fulton and Nassau streets,
but I could not perceive the least beneficial effect
from it, on the contrary I think it was a great in
jury tome. Shortly after using it, I commenced
raising blood in large quantities; I was taken down
sick and confined to the house for three months,
during which time I lost my appetite and fell away
very fast; I was then induced to consult Dr. Curtis
of New York, (one of the best physicians in the
city,) but he could do me uo good. I again became
| worse, and was confined to the house all last winter
and spring, and I gave up all hope of ever getting
any belier, as I again raised blood and my cough
was very severe, together with a pain in my
breast and under the shoulder blade. My friends
now gave up all hope of my recovering, and thought
every day was the lust. About this time I heard
of your BALSAM OF' LIVERWORT being good j
for consumption, but I was like many others, and
was fearful that it might be a regular humbug; I
however finally consented to try it, as I thought it
could make me no worse. My brother then pur
chsed a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N . Y., and I
commenced taking it, and by the time I had used
one bottle full I could sleep all night, and in the
morning I had an appetite for my breakfast. I still
keep on taking it and find great benefit from it—the
pain in my breast is entirely gone, and I raise no
more blood. Within the last two months I have
gained in weight six pounds and much in strength.
I would therefore, advise ail who have any affec
tion of the Lungs nr Liver to try the Genuine Dr.
Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, tor I truly believe
it to be the best remedy in existence for diseases
of the Lungs or Liver. Should any one doubt the
above statement relative to your valuable medicine,
let him call on me, and I will convince him of its
virtues. Yours, respectfully, DE REVERE,

The great demand for this most important work, j
(of which thousands are sold] lias compelled the is- ,
sue of another edition. It is intended especially
for the married, as it discloses important secrets j
which should be known to them particularly.—
Here every female can discover the causes, symp
toms, and the most efficient remedies and most
certain mode of cure, in every complaint to which \
her sex is subject.
It is an important question to the married why it |
is, that we behold so many married females sickly, |
debilitated, ami prostrated ? as, also, the causes, j
and whether they are susceptible of remedy. The} <
will here lind those important matters, connected j
with discoveries in medical and physiological sci
ence, which meet tiiis questk n.
This work is destined to be in the hands of every I
wife and mother who has a regard for her own i
health and welfare, as well as that of her husband. !
The revelations contained in its pages have al
ready proved a blessing to thousands as the innu
merable letters received by the author will attest.
It is of course impossible to convey more fully,
in a public journal, the various subjects treated of.
as they are of a nature strictly intended for the
married or those contemplating marriage ; neither
is it necessary, since it is every one’s duty to be- i
come possessed of knowledge, whereby the suffer- 1
ings to which a wife, a mother, or a sister may be j
subject, can be obviated.
