THIS valuable preparation combines all tbe
medicinal virtues of those articles, which long I
experience has proved to possess the most safe |
and efficient alterative and deobstruent properties,
or the cure of Scrofula, King’s Evil, White Sire/l- 1
in*rs, Ulcers, Scrofulous, Cancerous and Indolent
Tumours; Mercurial and Syphilitic Affections, Rheu
matism. Gout. Scurvey, Neuralgia or Tic-Doulou
reux, Cancer, Goitre or Bronchocele, {sicetied Aeck,)
Enlargements of the Hones, Joints, Glands, or liga
ments or of the Ovanes, Inver, Spleen, hidneijs, .
All the diseases of the Skin, such as Tetter. Ring- ;
worm. Biles, Pimples, Carbuncles, S,'C., Dyspepsia \
and Liver Complaint, Nenyms Diseases. Dropsicid j
Swellings. Constitutional Disorders and diseases ori
ginating from a depraved or Impure state of the
Blood or other fluids of the body.
The proprietor of this Alterative would most rc- i
e lectfully assure the public that he has not offered
t ns preparation to their notice without due reflec
tion, and close and rigid study, nor until after |
twelve years'’ experience had manifested its great
superiority over every other article of the kind,—
and he now recommends it with confidence, fully
believing that the above combination of medicines j
will effectually eradicate from the system a class
of diseases some of which bare heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
He has prescribed it in almost evert" variety of
•diseases and with unparalleled success, especially
in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri
ty of the blood.
Cancer and Cancerous Tumors.
He has used this preparation in upwards of twen
ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu
mors, and in every case but cue with perfect and
entire success,
Bronchocele or Goitre, (Swelled Neck.)
He has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of
goitre, and it has never failed in a single instance to
completely remove the disease. Not a solitary
case of failure. All were cured.
Tbe success he has met with in curing
ccle and cancerous affections has convinced him
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may he ,
removed with as much certainty as Fever and j
Ague. He does not wish to be understood as say
ing that they can he cured ns soon as Fever and
Ague, but with as much certainty; and further, that
he has good reason for believing that this prepara
tion will not only cure these diseases when formed, I
but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle
lurking in the system, from which that peculiar
class of diseases, as well as that of scrofula emanate
Scrofula—King's Evil.
This preparation has been used in numerous i
eases of scrofula. King's Evil, and scrofulous swell
ings, and always with the most decided success.
Skin Diseases.
He has prescribed it in a great variety of cutane
ous affections, and found it successful in curing salt
rheum or tetter, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew
and jaundiced skin, &c.
Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint
It has been used in numerous cases of liver com
plaint and Dyspepsia, and with the happiest etfect.
Tic-Doulonreux.
It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia,
and in every case it was successful.
Rheumatism,
This preparation has been prescribed in a great
many cases of chronic rheumatism, and in every
case in which it was used until the system became
affected by the medicine, the disease was removed.
Gout.
A number of cases of gout have been cured by
■this preparation. In one of these cases, the man
had been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen
years as to entirely disable him from business, and
for five months immediately previous to his taking
(he Alterative he had been confined to his room;
but before he had finished the third bottle, he was
enabled to walk about the streets and soon after re
turned to his business, from which he had so long
been excluded by his affliction.
Dropsical Swallings.
This medicine increases the powers of digestion
excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, bv
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all un
natural enlargements are reduced. It imparts
tone and vitality to the whole system, removing I
sick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering
pains and nervous affections.
In fact, in every case where the medicine lias
been taken for some time, no matter for what pur
pose, the general health of th* patient has always
beau Improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer, bronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured by
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but
want of room in this sheet precludes their publica
tion at this time.
Cancer.
An interesting case cured by Jayne's Alterative.
In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of reter
Stretch, of Salem N. J. It was examined by many
Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous,
and besides bore all the characteristic marks of
one. All probable means of removing it were used
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfulness, until all hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr.
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
all present a cancer of the most malignant charac
ter. In about three months, after enduring incredi
ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. She remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the
spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
breast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi
ly increased for several months, and became so
Sainful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un
cr the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
ahard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast. No operation could now
arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear
id to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid- ;
ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit,
eoth her parents having died of Pulmonary con
bumption. The experiment was now made wi h
this Alterative. It was at first given in small doses,
three times a day, and the doses very gradually,
but steadily increased daily, as long as she
which was about six months, and the skin over and
around the tumour was wet night and morning with
a strong solution of lodine and Hydriodate Potash.
The tumour continued increasing in size for about
six weeks, and was at times very painful, when the
pain suddenly ceased altogether, and the tumour
swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then
began to diminish, and continued gradually decreas
ing until every vestige of disease was removed.—
The tumour in her left breast, and those in her
right exilla were also dispersed. No cancerous or
scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and
her general health, which had been so bud for four
teen years as to make life a burthen, was effectu
ally and permanently restored. The proprietor is
in possession of the diseased breast, and those who
choose may exanvine it. He would also say that
he could mention over a dozen cases equally inter
esting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer
and cancerous tumours, but he has not room here
to record them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had
ft goitrous tumour on the left side of her windpipe,
•s large as the half of an orange, which was cured
by using this Alterative for about four months.
Miss R S . South Fourth-street, Phila
delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire space between the
chin and breast-bone, and extended around on each
side of her neck to behind her ears, and from her
cars to her shoulders, and produced awful deformi
ty. It commenced growing when she was but five
years old, and continued gradually to increase un
til she was nineteen, at which time she commenced
using this Alterative, which she took for seven
months, which entirely reduced the enlargement;
and she has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can
be found, The proprietor is not at liberty to give
her name in print, but will refer persons to her,

Brazos Sr. Jago, July 21, 1816.
Dr. AT. 'Woodruff —Dear Sir ; —I owe you an apol
ogy for not acknowledging before this the receipt
of a box of your Dysentery Cordial, which you had
the kindness to send me while in Columbus, for the
use of my corps.
I have found it a most valuable Medicine, and
only regret that I have not a supply of it. Where
; ever my men have followed directions they have
invariably found relief. We have suffered and are
suffering much from Dysentery occasioned by the
! wretched water we have to drink, but your Cor
| dial is restoring all to their wonted health and vigor.
With my sincere thanks for your kindness, and
best wishes for your success, I am your obedient
servant.
ISAAC HOLMES. Capt. Macon Guards.
From Hon. H. \V. Hilliard, late V. S. Minister to
Belgium.
Dr. I Voodmff —My Dear Sir : —A few days since
I received the Cordial which you were good enough
to send me. My friend, Col. Seaborn Jones, would
; have part of it; the remainder I have laid aside for
use when I may need it.
On the other page I have added a statement of
my appreciation of it as a Medicine.
Having used the Cordial of Dr. M. Woodruff, I
do not berilate to pronounce it a most valuable
Medicine. Indeed, for such affections of the bow
els as we sometimes suffer with in the South, 1
know nothing at all equal to it.

DR. JOB L BRANHAM'S LIVDR AND
DYSPEPTIC MEDICINE.
IN offering this valuable medicine to the people ;
of Georgia, for the relief and cure of many dis- !
eases incident to a Southern climate, I do not claim
tor it infallibility; neither do I say it will cure all
diseases. But in Chronic Liver Affections and
Dyspepsia, I can confidently advise and recoin- ;
mend its use, from my personal observation and use !
of the article in un own practice. This article is j
favorably received wherever it has been used. I
am allowed to refer to Mr. George Heard of Troup.
Mr. John Warren of Columbus, Mr. McKaffee of
Cobb, Mr. Asbury Hull of Athens, Mr. William D.
Terrell of Putnam, Rev. John E. Dawson of La
j grange; to which a great number of names might
be added, who bear their testimony to its value. —
Dr. Henry Branham has used this medicine in his
own case, and has prescribed it to many others,
gives it as his opinion; that it is one of the safest
and most valuable medicines that can be used in
j imperfect digestion, liver complaints, constipation
and irregular state nf the bowels. It is useful in
billions complaints, to persons recovering from bil
lious fevers, and in sick or nervous head-ache. To
pregnant women, who are subject to costiveness,
this medicine is well suited. In regulating the state
| ol the stomach and bowels, and promoting digestion,
j it is particularly useful.
I could append a long list of certificates, but for
bear, prefering to rely on the virtues of the medi
cine to sustain itself. The medicine is a gentle and
certain cathartic, tonic and sudorific.

DR. LE ROY’S
VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL PILLS.
THE startling drawback on nearly all Medicinal
Agents has ever been that in their process of pur
gation and purification, tKov also Debilitated
the h-ysffffi. Hence Purgative Medicines Ua* c al
ways been regarded as at best but a Necessary
Eril; Patients resorting to them for the relief of
one disease at the expense of another. To obviate
this, Physicians have long sought for an Agent that
would at the same time
PURGE PURIFY AND STRENGTHEN.
But their efforts were nearly fruitless, and they
had almost despaired of success when the labor* of
science and research, were rewarded by a discov
ery which fully realized the fondest desires of the
Medical Faculty, and which is justly regarded as
one of the most important Triumphs that Pharmacy
has ever achieved. This important desideratum is
named
j Dr. Le Roy’s Vegetable Universal Pills.
W hich Purify the Blood, and remove all corrupt
ami vitiated humors, and unhealthy accumulations from
the body in a manner never before rivalled, and
which yet produce no weakness or lassitude what
ever, hut on the contrary, tone the Stomach, and
invigorate the constitution during the progress of
their operation. Dr. Le Roy’s Pills, in fact, unite
those heretofore irreconcilable, but most desirable
qualities, Evacuation and Invirnrafion, for they are
at the same lime a STRENGTHENING PURGA
TIVE, AND A PURIFYING TONIC.
The two paincipal ingredients in Dr. Lc Roi"’s
Pills are
WILD CHERRY & SARSAPARILLA.
So prepared that each promotes the beneficial ef
fect of the other, the former strengthening, while
the latter, through its union with various vegetable
ingredients, evacuates and purifies; thus thev su
perinduce no torpidity or lassitude of the the Diges
tive Functions, and hence their operations are at
tended by no Re-action or Subsequent Costiveness.
Dr. Le Roy’s Pills are the most active and search
ing Medicine in existence. They at once attack
the very root of Diseases, and their action is so
prompt that in an hour or two after they are taken,
the patient is aware of their good effects. They
; not only operate on the Blood, but also on the chyle,
of which tbe Blood is formed, and this secures good
blood from the fountain head, moreover, they pro
! duce neither nausea, griping or debility, and as a
family medicine they have no rival. Price 25 cts.

DR. CHRISTIE’S
G ALVANIC RINGS AND
Magnetic Fluid.
mills remarkable invention, which has received
JL the almost universal appiobation of the Medi
cal Profession of Great Britain, comprises an en
tirely new application of Galvanism, a* a remedial :
agent, by means of which the ordinary Galvanic
Batteries, Electric and Magnetic Machines, &C.,
are entirely dispensed with, and the mysterious
powers of Galvanism applied without any of the
objections which are inseparable from the general
; mode nov' in use. The strong doses, and at rffeg
! nlar intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the
! Machines, has been pronounced after a fair and im
i partial trial, to be decidedly injurious, and it was to
I remedy this radical defect, that this new applica-
I tion was projected, which after unceasing toil and
I perseverance has been brought to its present state '
jof perfection. The Galvanic Rings answer all the |
I purposes of the most expensive Machines, and in
I many other respects are more safe and certain in
accomplishing the desired effect.
The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the j
j Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in 1
all disorders which arise from an enfeebled or un- I
healthy state of the nervous or vital system, and those 1
complaints are among the most painful and univer
sal to which we are subject. They arise, without ;
exception, to one single cause—a derangement of |
the IServous system—and it was in these cases that j
other “ remedies ” having so often failed, a new
agent was greatly needed*, which it is confidently !
believed, has been found in the proper and judi- !
| cions application of Galvanism.
The Galvanic Rings have been used with entire i
success in all cases of Rheumatism, acme or chronic, ;
! applying to the head, face nr limbs: Gout, Tic- j
I Dolorenx, Toothache, Bronchitis, \ertigo, Nervous j
or Sick Headache, Indigestion, Paralyses, Palsy, j
! Epilepsy, Pits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart, Ap- j
i pojde.xy. Stiffness of Joints. Spinal Complaints, Ltnn- |
! bago. Neuralgia , Nen:ors Tremors, Dizziness of the j
Head, I*o ins in Oie. Chest and Side, General Debil- *
ity , I) e tide an iof Nervous and Physical Energy, and i
all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed Dys
pepsia, which is simply a nervous derangement of
i the digestive organs, they have been found equally
I successful. Their extraordinary-effects upon the
system must he witnessed lo be believed, and as a
certain Preventive for the preceding complaints :
they are equally recommended. The Rings are of j
different prices, being made of all sizes, and of va- i
rious ornamental patterns, and can be worn by the i
most delicate female without the slightest incon
venience- In fact the sensation is rather agreea
| ble than otherwise.
The Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, Bands,
Garters, Necklaces, Arc.
In some cases of a very severe character and of j
| long standing the power as applied by the Galvanic j
I RingS is not sufficient to arrest the progress of dis- j
ease and ultimately to restore health. The iraprov- 1
ed modification in the Galvanic Pelts, Bracelets, !
| SfC., entirely remedies this objection 5 any degree |
j of power that is required can readily be obtained, 1
| and no complaint which the mysterious agent of ;
; Galvanism can effect will fail to be permanently re- j
i lieved. These ariicies are adapted to the waist, arms, !
i wrists, limbs, ancles, or any part of the body with i
i perfect convenience. The Galvanic Nec/ctciceS, are |
used with greater benefit in cases of Bronchitis or
i affections of the throat generally ; a!=oin Cases of 1
Nervous Deafness; and with almost uniform success ;
! as a preventive for Apoplexy, Kpilejjtic Fits , and I
similar complaints.
CiIUISTIE’S MAGNETIC FBI ID.
, Is issued in-connection with the Galvanic Rings, j
and all their modifications. This composition has j
' been pronounced by the French Chemists to be
one or the most extraordinary discoveries of mod- !
ern science. It is believed to possess a remarkable I
power of rendering the Nerves sensitive to Galvanic !
I action, by thes'C means causing a circulation of the
; influence at the seat of disease, and thus giving ra- I
i pid and permanent relief. No other composition in
| chemistry is knows to produce the same effect or j
! to impart a similar property to the nervous system
by means of an outward local application. The 1
| Magnetic Fluid contains nothing capable of the ;
slightest injury, its application is agreeable, and it
j is as harmless in its action as it is beneficial in its
result. The combined inventions are in every wav j
I perfectly harmless; they arc at prices within reach
of all, and the discoverer only request# a ♦air trial,
■ as a test of their surprising efficacy and permanent
| benefit.

These nvticlcs form another valuable application 1
I and the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They
i are too important adjuncts to the genuine Galvanic l
Rings and their modifications, acting upon the .
I same principle, but having this advantage of more
i local application. They are confidently recoru- I
1 mended as a valuable addition in the speedy cure 1
1 of Rheumatism, acute or chronic; in all nervous j
complaints, and as a positive remedy in cases of
: Pain and Weakness in the Chest or flack. Pain in
the Side, Asthmatic Affections, and in Weakness
or Oppression of the Pulmonary Organs. In Spi
nal Complaints, their effects are of the most decided
character, and they have often been used with
complete success. They are also of the greatest
advantage in Pains and Weakness of the Breast,
and are highly recommended for many of those
complaints lo which females are especially liable.
As an effectual means for Strengthening the sys
tem when debilitated by disease or other causes;
as a certain aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a
Preventive for Colds, and in all affections of the
Chest, generally, the Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ter, will bo found of great and permanent advantage.
In a few words, it embraces all the virtues of the
best tonic preparation with the important addition
of the Galvanic influence, which is neither impair
ed or exhausted, while the action continues. These |
articles will be found entirely free from those ob
jections which are a constant source of complaint I

TO NEGLECT USING THE GENUINE
DR. TAYLOR’S BALSAM OF LIVERWORT. !
375 Bowery, N. Y.
those he who have Pulmonary Consump
iTj, tion, or any affection of the Lungs, Liver or
I Chest, after reading the following letter, just rc-
I ceived from a most respectable inhabitant of West
chester County New York.
Takbvtown, Aug. 9, 1844. 1
Dear Doctor —It is difficult to find words to ex- j
press the gratitude which I feel towards you fori
the interest you have taken to relieve me in my !
distress. In the year 1842 I contracted a heavy |
cold, which finally settled on my lungs; in a few i
months after, I commenced coughing and raising ■
offensive matter, which smelt very bad. Having ]
heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a |
coughs I tried a few boxes of them, but they had i
not the least effect on me. 1 then called in the !
best physicians in the place, who attended me a j
few months, but without, success; 1 then saw an ad- j
vertisement in one of the city papers of Wistar’s
Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which I purchased three 1
bottles, at the corner ot" Fulton and Nassau streets, 1
but I could not perceive vlrt least beneficial effect
from it, on the contrary 1 tl.ijik it was a great in
jury to me. Shortly after using it, 1 commenced
raising blood in large quantities; I was taken down
sick and conffued to the house for three months,
during which time I lost my appetite and fell away
very fast; I was then induced to consult Dr. Curtis
of New York, (one of the best physicians in the
city,) but he could do me no good. 1 again became
worse, and was confined to the house all last winter
and spring, and I gave up all hope of ever getting
any better, as I again raised blood and my cough
was very severe, together with a pain in my
breast and under the shoulder blade. My friends
now gave up all hope of my recovering, and thought
every day was the last. About this time 1 heard
of your BALSAM OF LIVERWORT being good
for consumption, but I was like many others, and
was fearful that it might be a regular humbug; I
however finally consented to try it, as 1 thought it
could make me no worse. My brother then pur
chased a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N . Y., and 1
1 commenced taking it, and by the time I had used
one bottle full I could sleep all night, and in the
morning 1 had an appetite for my breakfast. I still
keep on talcing it and find great benefit from it—the
pain in my breast is entirely gone, and I raise no j
more blood. Within the last two months I have
gained in weight six pounds and much in strength,
I would therefore, advise all who have any affec
tion of the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr.
Taylor's Balsarn of Liverwort, for 1 truly believe
it to be the best remedy in existence for diseases
of the Lungs or Liver, Should any one doubt the
above statement relative to your valuable medicine, |
let him call on me, and I will convince him of its
virtues. Yours, respectfully, DE REVERE.

THE MARRIED WOMAN’S PRIVATE
MEDICAL COMPANION.
By Dr. A. M. Mauriceav.
PROFESSOR OF DISEASES OF WOMEN*.
[ Third Edition , 18 mo. jrp. 250. Price $! 00.]
I 25,000 COPIES SOLD IN THREE MONTHS!
The great demand for this most important work.
; (of which thousands are sold] has compelled the is
sue of another edition. It ? is intended especially
for the married, as it discloses important secrets
which should be known to them particularly. —
: Here every female can discover the causes, symp
i toms, and the most efficient remedies and most
certain mode of cure, in even complaint to which
i her sex is subject.
It is an important question to the married why it
is, that we behold so many married females sickly,
I debilitated, and prostrated ? as, also, the causes,
and whether they are susceptible of remedy. They
will here find those important matters, connected
with discoveries in medical and physiological sci
ence, which meet this question.
This work is destined to' be in the hands of even*
wife and mother who has a regard for her own
health and welfare, as well as that of her husband.
The revelations contained in its pages have al
ready proved a blessing to thousands as the innu
merable letters received by the author will attest.
It is of course impossible to convey more fully,
in a public journal, the various subjects treated of,
as they are of a! nature strictly intended for the
married or those contemplating marriage ? neither
is it necessary, since it is every one's duty to’ bc
! come possessed of knowledge, whereby the suffer
ings to which a wife, a mother, or a sister may be
subject, can be obviated.
