JAYNE’S ALTERATIVE. j
rpms valuable preparation combines all the
.1. medicinal virtues of those articles, which long
experience has proved to possess the most safe
and efficient alterative and deobstruent properties/ I
or the cure of Scrofula, Kind’s Evil, White Swell
ings, lj leers, Scrofulous, Cancerous and Indolent
Tumours; Mercurial and SijphiHtic Affections, Rheu
matism, Gout, Scurvetj , Neuralgia or Tic-Doulou
reux, Cancer, Goitre, or liroftchocele, {sve/led Neck,) ;
Enlargements of the Bones, Joints. Glands, or Liga
ments or of the Ovaries. Lirer, Spleen, Kidneys, t\-c.
All the diseases of the Skin, such as Tetter. Ring- j
worm. Biles, Pimples, Carbuncles, 4*c., Dyspepsia i
and Lirer Complaint, Nervous Diseases, Dropsical
Swellings, Constitutional Disorders and diseases ori
ginating from a depraved or Impure state of the
Blood or other fluids of the body.
The proprietor of this Alterative would most re- !
spectfuily assure the public that he has not offered
this preparation to their notice without due reflec
tion, and close and rigid study, nor until after
twelve years’ experience had manifested its groat
superiority over every other article of the kind.—
andjie now recommends it with confidence, fully
believing that (he above combination of medicines
will effectually eradicate from the system a class
of diseases some of which have heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
He has prescribed it in almost every variety of
diseases and with unparalleled success, especially
in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
or enlargement of the glands or impuri
ty of the blood.
Cancer and Cancerous Tumors,
He has used this preparation in upwards of twen- j
ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu- i
mors, and in every case but one with perfect and I
entire success.
Broncliocele or Goitre, (Swelled Neck.)
He has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of
goitre, and it has never failed in a single instance to
completely remove the disease. Not a solitary
case of failure. All were cured.
The success he lias met with in curing broncho- ,
cele and cancerous affections has convinced him
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be
removed with as much certainty as Fever and
Ague. He does not wish to be understood as say
ing that they can he cured as soon as Fever and
Ague, but with as much certainty; and further, that
he has good reason for believing that this prepara
tion will not only cure these diseases when formed,
but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle
lurking in the system, from which that peculiar
class of diseases, as well as that of scrofula emanate
Scrofula—King’s Evil.
This preparation has been used in numerous
rases of scrofula, King’s Evil, and scrofulous swell
ings, and always with the most decided success.
Skin Diseases.
He has prescribed it in a great variety of cutane
ous affections, and found it successful in curing salt
rheum or tetter, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew
and jaundiced skin, Sec.
Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint.
It ha? been used in numerous cases of liver com
plaint and Dyspepsia, and with the happiest effect.
Tic-Douloureux. *
It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia,
and in every case it was successful.
Rheumatism.
This preparation has been prescribed in a great
many cases of chronic rheumatism, and in every
case in which it was used until the system became
affected by thi medicine, the disease was removed.
Gout.
A number of cases of gout have been cured by
this preparation. In one of these cases, the man
had been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen
years as to entirely disable him from business, and
for five months immediately previous to his taking
the Alterative he had been confined to his room;
but before he had finished the third bottle, he was
enabled to walk about the streets and soon after re
turned to his business, from which he had so long
been excluded by his afiliction. •
Dropsical Swallings.
This medicine increases the powers of digestion
excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all un
natural enlargements are reduced. It imparts
tone and vitality to the whole system, removing
sick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering
pains and nervous affections.
In fact, in every case where the medicine has
been taken for some time, no matter for what pur-
the general health of the patient has always
been improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
©f the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer, bronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured by
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; hut
want of room- in this sheet precludes their publica
tion at this time.
Cancer.
An interesting case cured by Jayne's Al/eratirc.
In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter
Stretch, of Salem N. J. It was examined by many
Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous,
and besides bore all the characteristic marks of
one. All probable means of removing it were used
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfitlness, until all hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr.
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
all present a cancer of the most malignant cbarac
ter. In about three months, after enduring incredi
ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. She remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the
spring of 1837, upwards of five years afler her breast
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
Weast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi
ly increased for several months, and became so
painful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un
der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
ahard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left hre-ast. No operation could now
arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear
td to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit,
eoth her parents having died of Pulmonary con
bumption. 'lTie experiment was now made with
shis Alterative. It was at first given in small doses,
three times a day, and the doses very gradually,
but steadily increased daily, as long as she took it,
which was about six months, and the skin over and
around the tumour was wet night and morning with
a strong solution of lodine and Hydriodate Potash.
The tumour continued increasing in size for about
six weeks, and was at times very painful, when the
pain suddenly ceased altogether, and the tumour
swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then
began to diminish, and continued gradually decreas
ing until every vestige of disease was removed.—
The tumour in her left breast, and those in her
right exilla were also dispersed. No cancerous or
scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and
her general health, which had been so bad for four
teen years as to make life a burthen, was effectu
ally and permanently restored. The proprietor is
ia possession of the diseased breast, and those who
choose may examine it. He would also say that
he could mention over a dozen cases equally inter
esting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer
and cancerous tumours, but he has not room here
to record them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had
a goitrous tumour on the left side of her windpipe,
88 large as the half of an orange, which was cured
by usin» this Alterative for about four months.
Miss R ts , South Fourth-street, Phila
delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire space between the
chin and breast-bone, and extended around on each
side of her neck to behind her ears, and from her
ears to her shoulders, and produced awful deformi
ty. It commenced growing when she was but live
years old, and continued gradually to increase un
til she was nineteen, at which time she commenced
using this Alterative, which she took for seven
months, which entirely reduced the enlargement;
and she. has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can
be found. The proprietor is not at liberty to give
her name in print, but will refer persons to her.

HOW AWFULLY CULPABLE,

DR. TAYLOR’S BALSAM OF LIVERWORT.
375 Bo wert, N. Y.
MUST those be who have Pulmonary Consump
tion, or any affection of the Lungs, Liver or
Chest, after reading the following letter, just re
ceived from a most respectable inhabitant of West
! Chester County New York.
Taurytown, Aug. 0, lot-1.
Dear Doctor—lt is difficult to find words to ex
press the gratitude which I feel towards you for
the interest you have taken to relieve me in my
distress. In the year 1842 I contracted a heavy
cold, which finally settled on my lungs; in a few
months after, I commenced coughing and raising
offensive matter, which smelt very bad. Having
, heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were gofcd for a
coughs I tried a few boxes of them, but they had
not the least effect on me. 1 then called in the
j best physicians in the place, who attended me a
L< few months, but without success; I then saw an ad
, | vertisement in one of the city papers of Wistar’s
Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which I purchased three
bottles, at the corner of Fulton and Nassau streets,
1 but I could not perceive the least beneficial effect
j from it, on the contrary 1 think it was a great in
! jury to me. Shortly after using it, 1 commenced
raising blood in large quantities; I was taken down
. i sick and confined to the house for three months,
during which time I lost ray appetite and fell away
■ very Fast; I was then induced to consult Dr. Curtis
[ of New York, (one of the best physicians in the
. i city,) but he could do me no good. 1 again became
worse, and was confined to the house all last winter
; I and spring, and I gave up all hope of ever getting
, j any better, as I again raised blood and my cough
was very severe, together with a pain in ray
. ( breast and under the shoulder blade. My friends
■ now gave up all hope of my recovering, and thought
every day was the last. About this time I heard
of your BALSAM OF LIVERWORT being goad
1 for consumption, but I was like many others, am!
was fearful that it might be a regular humbug; I
however finally consented to try it, as I thought it
could make me no worse. My brother then pnr
chsed a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N. Y., and
commenced taking it, and by the time I had used
one bottle full I could sleep all night, and in the
morning I had an appetite for my breakfast. I still
keep on taking it ami find great benefit from it—the
. pain in my breast is entirely gone, and I raise no
more blood. Within the last two months I have
gained in weight six pounds and much in strength.
1 I would therefore, advise all who have any affec
i tion of the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr.
; Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for I truly believe
i it to be the best remedy in existence for diseases j
- of the Lungs or Liver. Should any one doubt the
above statement relative to your valuable medicine,
let him call on me, and I will convince him of its
virtues. 1 ours, respectfully, DE REVERE.

GALVANIC RINGS AND
Magnetic Fluid,
rip HIS remarkable invention, which has received
B the almost universal approbation of the Medi
cal Profession of Great Britain, comprises an en
tirely new application of Galvanism, as a remedial
agent, by means of which the ordinary Galvanic
Batteries, Electric and Magnetic Machines, Ac.,
are entirely dispensed with, and the mysterious
powers of Galvanism applied without any of the
objections which are inseparable from the general
mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irreg
ular intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the
Machines, has been pronounced after a fair and im
partial trial, to be decidedly injurious, and it was to
remedy this radical defect, that this new applica
tion was projected, which after unceasing toil and
perseverance has been brought to its present state
of perfection: The Galvanic Rings answer all the
purposes of the most expensive Machines, and in
many other Aspects are more safe and certain in
accomplishing the desired effect.
The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in
all disorders tcliich arise from an enfeebled or un
healthy stale of the nervous or vital system, and those
complaints are among the most painful and univer
sal to which we are subject. They arise, without
exception, to one single cause—a derangement of
the Nervous system—and it was in these cases that
other “ remedies ” having so often faded, a new
agent was greatly needed, which it is confidently
believed, has been found in the propel and jmu- !
cions application of Galvanism.
The ualvanic Rings have been used with entire
success in all cases of Rheumatism, acute or chronic,
applying to the head, face or limbs: Gout,
Uoloretu r, Toothache, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nervous
or Sick Headache, Indigestion, Paralyses, Palsy,
Epilepsy, Fits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart, Ap
poplexy. Stiffness of Joints, Spinal Complaints, Lum
bago, Neuralgia, Nervovs Tremors, Dizziness of the
Head, Pains in the Chest and Side, General Debil
ity, Defciency of Nervous and Physical Energy, and
all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed Dys
pepsin, which is simply a nervous derangement of
the digestive organs, they have been found equally
successful. Their extraordinary effects upon the
system must he witnessed tube believed, and as a
certain Preventive for the preceding complaints
they are equally recommended. The Rings are of
different prices, being made of all sizes, and of va
rious ornamental patterns, and can be worn by the
most delicate female without the slightest incon
venience. In fact the sensation is rather agreea
i ble than otherwise.
The Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, Bands,
Garters, Necklaces, <fcc.
In some cases of a very severe character and of
long standing the power as applied by the Galvanic
l Rings is not sulficient to arrest the progress of dis
ease and ultimately to restore health. The improv
i cd modification in the Galvanic Belts, Bracelets,
i 4s*c., entirely remedies this objection ; any degree
i of power that is required can readily be obtained,
1 and no complaint which the mysterious agent of
i Galvanism can effect will fail to be permanently re
i lieved. These articles are adapted to the waist, arms,
| wrists, limbs, ancles, or any part of the bodv with
! perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces, are
; used with greater benefit in cases of Bronchitis or
i affections of the throat generally ; also in cases of
: Nervous Deafness; and with almost uniform success
as a preventive for Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits, and
similar complaints.
CHRISTIE’S MAGNETIC FLUID.
Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Rings,
J and all their modifications. This composition has
been pronounced by the French Chemists to be
one ot the most extraordinary discoveries of mod
ern science. It is believed to possess a remarkable
power of rendering the Nerves sensitive to Galvanic
action, by these means causing a circulation of the
influence at the seat of disease', and thus giving ra
( pid and permanent relief. No other composition in

Dr. Woodruff’s Dysentery Cordial.
| "T*‘MTILL generally give immediate relief in the
Y Y above named diseases —abating severe pain
generally as soon as taken, and correcting the
stomach and bowels in a short time. Physicians
and others have testified to its value. Call and

From the late lamented Captain Holmes, Georgia
Regiment.
Brazos St. Jago. July 24, 18-46.
Dr. M. Woodruff —Dear Sir :—1 owe you an apol
ogy for not acknowledging before this the receipt
of a box of your Dysentery Cordial, which you had
the kindness to send me while in Columbus, for the
use of ray corps.
I have found it a most valuable Medicine, and
only regret that 1 have not a supply of it. Where
ever my men have followed directions they have
invariably found relief. We have suffered and are
suffering much from Dysentery occasioned by the
wretched water we have to drink, but your Cor
dial is restoring all to their wonted health attd vigor.
With my sincere thanks for your kindness, and
best wishes for your success, I am your obedient
servant.
I£AAC HOLMES. Capt. Macon Guards.
From Hon. H. W. Hilliard, late U. S. Minister to
; Belgium.
. Dr. Woodruff —My Dear 3ir :—A few days since
I received the Cordial which you were good enough
to send me. My friend, Col.’ Ecaoom Jones, would
have part of it; the remainder I have laid aside for
use when I may need \t.
On the other page I hare added a statement of
my appreciation of it as a Medicine.
Having used the Cordial of Dr. M. Woodruff, I
do not hesitate to pronounce it a most valuable
Medicine. Indeed, for such affections of the bow
els as we sometimes suffer with in the South, I
know nothing at all equal to it. .

DR. JOEL BRANHAM’S LIVER AND
DYSPEPTIC MEDICINE,
IN offering this valuable medicine to the people
of Georgia, for the relief and cure of many dis
eases incident to a Southern climate. I do not claim
for it infallibility; neither do I say it will cure all
diseases. Cut in Chronic Liver Affections and
Dyspepsia, 1 can confidently advise and recom
mend its use, from my personal observation and use
of the article in my own practice. This article is
favorably received wherever it has been used. I
am allowed to refer to Mr. George Heard of Troup.
Mr. John Warren of Columbus, Mr. McKafFee of
Cobb, Mr. Asbury Hull of Athens, Mr. William D.
Terrell of Putnam, Rev. John E. Dawson of La
grange; to which a great number of names might
be added, who bear their testimony to its value.-
Dr. Henry Branham has used this medicine in his
own case, and lias prescribed it to many others,
gives it as his opinion, that it is one of the safest
and most valuable medicines that can be used in
imperfect digestion, liver complaints, constipation
and irregular state of the bowels. It is useful in
billions complaints, to persons recovering from bil
lions fevers, and in sick or nervous head-ache. To
pregnant women, who are subject to costiveness,
this medicine is well suited. In regulating the state
of the stomach and bowels, and promoting digestion,
it is particularly useful.
I could append a long list of certificates, but for
bear, prefering to rely on the virtues of the medi
cine to sustain itself. The medicine is a gentle and
certain cathartic, tonic and sudorific.

DR. LB ROY’S
VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL PILLS.
THE startling drawback on nearly all Medicinal
Agents has ever been that in their process of pur
gation a'nd pu-ifieatiqo, they have also Debilitated
the System: Hence Purgative Medicines have al
ways been regarded as at best but a Neressaxtf
Evil; Patients resorting to them for the relief of
one disease at the expense of another. To obviate
this, Physicians have long sought for an Agent that
would at the same time
purge Purify and strengthen.
But their eiforts were nearly fruitless, and they
had almost despaired of success when the labors ot
science and research, were rewarded bv a discov
ery which fully realized the fondest desires of the
Medical Faculty, and is justly regarded as
one of the most important Triumphs that Pharmacy
has ever achieved. This important desideratum is
named
Dr. Le Roy’s Vegetable Universal Pills.
W hich Purify the Blood, and remove all corrupt
a7id vitiated humors, and unhealthy accumulations from
the bod)' in a manner never before rivalled, and
which yet produce no weakness or lassitude what
ever, hut on the contrary, tone the Stomach, and
invigorate the constitution during the progress of
their operation. Dr. Le Roy’s Pills, in fact, unite
those heretofore irreconcilable, but most desirable
qualities, Evacuation and Invigoration, for they are
at the same time a STRENGTHENING PURGA
TIVE, AND A PURIFYING TONIC.
The two paincipal ingredients in Dr, Le Roy’s
Pills are
WILD CHERRY SARSAPARILLA.
So prepared that each promotes the beneficial ef
fect of the other, the former strengthening, while
the latter, through its union with various vegetable
ingredients, evacuates and purifies; thus they su
perinduce no torpidity or lassitude of the the Diges
tive Functions, and hence their operations are at
tended by no Re-action or Subsequent Costiveness.
Dr. Le Roy’s Pills are the most active and search
ing Medicine in existence. They at once attack
the very root of Diseases, and their action i« so
prompt that in an hour or two after they are taken,
the patient is aware of their good effects. They
not only operate on the Blood, but also on the chyle,
of which the Blood is formed, and this secures good
blood from the fountain head, moreover, they pro
duce neither nausea, griping or debility, and as a
family medicine they have no rival. Price 25 cts.

Surprising Efficacy.
TVFY EAU DIVINE DE VENUS and NYMPH
i» A iSOAP, composed of an Eastern Botanical dis
covery of surprising efficacy, for rendering the
Skin soft and fair, as well as imparting a delicate
roseate hue to the complexion.
As a creator and conservator of that most distin
guishing charm of female loveliness, a transparent
fair skin. Jules Hand’s Nymph Soap of Eau Divine
De Venus may be said to exert an almost magical
power. Composed for the most part of Oriental
Balsamic Plants, to the utter exclusion of all mine
ral admixture, it is distinguished medicinally for its
extremely bland, purifying and soothing action on
the skin; and by acting on the pores and minute se
cretory vessels, expels all impurities from the sur
face, allays every tendency to imtlammation, and
by this method alone, effectually dissipates all red
ness, tan, prinples, freckles, sunburn and other un
sightful cutaneous visitations, so inimical to female
lovliness. Its use will change the most bilious com
plexion into one of radiant whiteness; while on the
neck, hands and arms it bestows a delicacy and
fairness which its continued use will happily pro
tect, and every appearance of youthful charm, to
the most advanced period of life. For sale, whole
