I examined another part of my crop this morn
ing. The cotton is not quite so forward, but
few worms to be found. In a few more days,
we shall have thousands of them here. Mr.
W has se en some of the neighboring
crops and thinks I have more worms than any
one else. It may be so at this time, but a few
days will prove the calamity universal in this
district of country. Mr. R. B. W- offers
his growing crop for his products last year,
which was about one third of an ordinal'}' pro
duction.
Aug. 10.—My overseer at Midway come up
this morning. He says that the worms are
all over the crop, but not in such numbers as
we have had them. You will remark that the
period of their greatest ravages is between the
middle of August and first of September.

CHARLES* I ON, Aug. 21. Cotton. —When we
left the market, at the close of the previous week,
a fair business had engaged dealers, at an advance
on the better grades, and we changed our quota
tions, at the time, to correspond with this improve
ment; since our report of the 14th inst., however,
the Upland market has been very quiet, hut so far
as prices are concerned, we have no new feature
to notice. The want of later European advices
and the indifference manifested on the part of hold
ers about selling, unless on their own terms, have
kept the market very quiet throughout the week,
as the operations do not exceed 570 bales. Our
quotations, which were the governing rates at
the opening of the week, will give a fair crite
rion of the market at the close of business yester
day. The sales since our last are as follows, viz ;
on Monday 98. Tuesday 75, Wednesday 100, Thurs
day 18, and Friday 275 bales. The actual trans
actions comprise 22 bales at 10£, 103 at IIS, 152
at 1U.49 at Ilf, 118 at Ilf, 53 at 12, and 53 bales
at 13c. per lb. The receipts are 2373 bales. Noth
ing has been done in Long Cotton.
Rice. — This article has been in better request
since our last than for several weeks past, and in
consequence of the limited supply on the market,
for the crop of 1846 is almost exhausted, holders
have obtained some slight advantage over purcha
sers. The sales reach perhaps 900 tierces contract
ed for, and the market is an eight of a dollar better
than it was during the previous week. The sales
have been at extreme sranging from 5 to ss| per
hundred. A portion, however, was sold at
)?5£ per hundred. Received 800 tierces.
Corn.- The Corn market continues to be very much
neglected, as the sales have been confined to small
P ircels of County and Georgia, with and without
tlie bags, atjirices within the range of our quotations
—viz ;65 a 70c. The receipts per Rail Road this
week are 2000 bushels.
Flour. —The receipts of the week comprise 300
bbls. Baltimore and 370 bbls. per Rail Road. The
supply on sale is light, hut the demand is also limit

former has been sold at 7 and per barrel, and a
part of the latter at prices ranging from 5Jj to

MOUNT EAGLE TRIPOLI.
A REMARKABLE mineral, pronounced by j
geologists to be a great rarity in nature, and I
known to them by the name of Tripoli, has lately
been discovered in this country, although but in one |
bed, of very narrow limits, all owned by the “Mount
Eagle Manufacturing Company,” incorporated for ‘
the sole purpose of its manufacture.
The article is excellent for burnishing and clean- I
ing all finished metallic and glass surfaces, such as !
gold, silver, brass, Britannia and steel ware, win
dow glass, Ac. Nothing has ever yet been discov
ered equal to the pure Tripoli, and the common
language of the consumer is, it is the best thing 1
ever saw. The genuine article is for sale by the
